room at back
Good value deal, nice room and good breakfast
Noise from entertainment as our room was above breakfast/entertainment area.
Nice location and large room.
Breakfast was poor. Windows in the family room where rotten and rattled in their runners which we had to stick card in to stop the rattling.
Ideal location and good value for money
Could have been cleaner but the hotel is run down and some of the items need to be replaced such as the bathrooms.
love old buildings staircase /foyer all lovely for xmas, location good sized room
breakfast blurgh.... room lay out- the room in with tv was classed as the kids twin bed room, other room as adults double bed, would be better the other way round.... massive bathroom under utilised really space could be best used and incorporate a sitting area next to TV more of a mini studio, swapped room with the grand kids, as i wanted them to go to sleep! but meant we had the single beds no where to sit but on the beds, and i was worried about the glass bedside cabinets that where the kids slept incase they fell out of bed onto them ( they were very wonkey too!). i know fire doors are a necessity... but the doors snapped shut very forcably and i was worried about the kids fingers but didnt want the doors closed so i could listen out for them. View....... well you cant expect toooooo much for the price, but i was gutted when we looked out the window to the the rear of the building from our room, a patch of waste land with old oil drums and rubbish lying about, dont know if this belong to this hotel mind so it may of been out of their hands. All in all very reasonably priced... lovely old building ( lot of walking round and round corridors to romms mind!) freindly staff, breakfast awful swimming in grease, room not child freindly, would i go back? yes but just as a couple, id turn front room into living area sleep in the back room, and go somewhere else for breakfast - didnt get to try the leisure facilities but if i return without the grand kids i will give it a shot and let you know! mint location if you like shopping litrally 10 steps away!
Room, helpful & friendly staff, location, Christmas decorations, general ambience.
Not that we didn't like, but food and presentation could have been a tiny bit better. Not enough to put us off though.
good central location quality of food good
mealtimes were chaotic as hotel appeared to be understaffed
Friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere, large room and bathroom. Very good New Years eve.
Not the hotels fault but 3 young couples allowed their very young children to run around totally unchecked about the bars, lounges and on the dance floor even past midnight.
we love the royal in scarborough. the staff remember us by name abd we enjoy the Regency decor
some rooms are a bit shabby .I hope updating them does not destroy the anbience
The hotel entrance and reception are lovely especially with the Christmas decorations. The staff on the 27th and 28th dec were very polite and helpful . We asked on the evening of the 28th if we could see a double sea view room and a suite As we were thinking of upgrading our rooms in May, we have 4 booked. The gentleman we spoke to explained that all the rooms were booked be we would be able to see them at 11 the next day. He took the time to look into the prices and left a message for the staff for the next morning. He was very helpful.
We waited after we had checked out on the 29th dec and went to see reception staff to ask to see the suite and sea view room. The man who was there said we couldn't see any rooms, he said it would be at least another £100 a night !! And obviously couldn't be bothered to help us. As we walked away another group were complaining about how unhelpful he had been. It was such a shame after such a lovely visit.
Had an Amazing night couldn't fault anything hoping to go back soon
Historic hotel good position value for your money
No free parking
room 310 excellent views, dining area lounge comfortable,
some staff had very rude attitude, the bed's & room where not made daily, made them myself; booked a table for the evening meal on the 29th when we arrived the service & food were aweful, !!!!!!! made us worry about the new year meal but it was ok, The pool area needed a face life, looked shabby, very cold in changing area,!!!!
Food was cold on both days
large warm room, lovely hotel
Receptionist (Irina?) abrupt to the point of rude. Other staff very not friendly either
only 1 bar open which led to long queue
Had a very enjoyable newyears Eve break, staff where very pleasant and helpful. Would recomend the royal and would return for another stay
Was not very impressed with the pool area, found it very drab and not very clean
The Royal is a very nice charming hotel, the staff were very professional and polite, we thought it was well decorated for Christmas. It was a bit busy the day we were there and breakfast next morning was a bit disappointing having to wait quite some time for a table, but food was nice and plenty of choose from.
xmas decorations, entertainment with dougie was good.
lack of parking, cramped reception area.shortage of staff in bar and restaurant.
Position of Hotel
Hotel in general wanted money spending on it it the Public areas. The showerhead in our bathroom was disgustingly filthy to say the least and we could not shower on our arrival! Matter was eventually rectified after my complaint but by then it was too late. Would not stay here again
Location was excellent Xmas decor was great Felt homely Room size and view were excellent
Food was poor quality and cooking was not up to standard No wifi in rooms
It was like being in a time warp. Reminded me of being the age of my children who were with me. I don't mean this in a bad way - but was glad my return to forever was a temporary stay.
The route to the room was a real maze and got lost. Even found a man who admitted to being lost and had to help him find his way (he wasn't that old). Worried about fire escapes - would be scary if the alarm went off at night (bad experience in Edinburgh just two weeks ago made me a bit cautious). Stayed in two Britannia hotels now in Canary Wharf and Scarborough. Quite like their faded quirkiness - like old ocean liners - it feels like they are heading for the breakers yard. Good for those with nostalgic temperament.
The Christmas decerations were nice in the foyer
The overall condition of the hotel was run down, in need of upgrade
meal we had while staying there
smell coming from the bathroom noise coming from bar street did not expect to be kept awake
The bar & food
The bed, needed better mattress & pillows
