The hotel is right on the seafront and close to all the shops which is one of the reasons we booked it as it was out 1st anniversary. The staff were very friendly and the young man in the spa was very helpful to us when we went to spend some time down there to relax. We were able to park out car at 9.30am and able to book in half an hour earlier than usual - as I disabled, it gave me the opportunity to have a cat nap before we went out again for the afternoon which I was appreciative of. The breakfast the next morning was very nice and there was plenty of it - help yourself which set us up for our journey back home. We only stayed the one night, but we are considering returning for a family members birthday next year as a group if we can get another offer. The room was very warm (too warm) throughout the day and night even without the heating on - the window was very old and didn't open very far so we didnt get much air in there. On going into the bathroom, the heated towel rail was on full so that may have been part of the reason for the heat filtering into the room. The only downsides we found was the loud, booming base sounds at around 9pm - we were not sure if this was from a local disco, or the wedding reception that was taking place downstairs. It was extremely loud as I am profoundly deaf and I could hear background noise and feel the vibration through the floor. To be fair, it didn't last for long (maybe someone complained?) and once all was quiet we managed to get to sleep. At breakfast, as nice as the breakfast was, the serving tools were extremely hot as they were metal and some of the tongs had no handles - my wife burnt her finger/thumb on them as did not realise this until she picked it up - i had to use a napkin to hold them with to get the food out of the containers. The floor area around the pool etc was very slippy and you had to tentatively walk around the edge as it is also on a slight slope so be careful! The room was somewhat dated but for the night we were there it was perfectly adequate. I would not have been happy to have paid the full price for the room though (we got it on an offer) - it was not worth £130 a night for it.

The location was perfect for anyone spending time in and Southport; the Spa was was good also. The Hotel was fine , a little "tired" possibly but obvioously well kept. I booked as a single and that is what I got; it was somewhat basic, small and very little natural light being at the back of the hotel between 2 blocks.Granted it was a last minute deal but if I had been charged full rate I would have been most unhappy. That said the room contained most things required for a nights stay except a comfortable chair ( for relaxing and watching tv- it had a dining chair in there).

We asked for a large twin newly decorated, and that is what we were given. Very pleased indeed. The room was nice and warm and plenty of drawer and hanging space. The lift broke down on Sunday and on Tuesday morning still not repaired. Very bad service considering many older people were guests. Althought the accommodation was very good, the food was bland, obviously came in pre cooked from a catering firm and very disappointing. One evening we had a guest for dinner and her pork chop was like wood. We complained. .Half of it ended on the floor as it shot from the plate as she was trying the 'hack' through it..

we've previously been given the largest front-facing room which was quite luxurious but that aside, we enjoy the location anyway, it's close to our favourite places. We appreciate the traditional feel of the hotel, love the spa, it provides a lovely getaway.

The front of house staff. We were very dissapointed with our stay, my wife and I lost our son on the 13th of december 2011, and my wife has been really depressed as our son was only 35 years I wanted to try and give her a little brake just to even put a smile on her face but our room was a big disapointment our window led out into a back entry. I did ask to be moved witch they gladly done but was no better. The room was very dirty the towels had blood stains on and you couldent even se out of the window they were that dirty. The front of house team were lovely and made us welcome but am sorry to say the accomadation lets it down we did not complain as we were there for one night only but wouldent stay again ,to top it up my wife is the head house keeper at knowsley hall I know its a different class of venue because its a stately home but we still expect clean rooms plus the breakfast was cold and we had our sitting for 830. sorry wouldent stay again you need to inprove your standards in the bedrooms . kind regards. Mr.Terry Sergeant.

Booked for a special offer themed weekend with an open expectation and wasn't disappointed with any of it. The room the food the spa the bars and the event evening made for a top weekend. My only tip would be to pay the bit extra and get a front room because the rear is just a back street view.

Thw staff were friendly, the lounge was pleasent. The bed room had a good view of the prom. The room was over the main entrance to the hotel, which was noisy. Due to the noise we didn't get to sleep until 4am. The room was very dusty, hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival. The breakfast was mediocre, barely warm. We presume these rooms are kept for special offers, hense the price we paid. If we'd had this information beforehand, we'd have stayed else where.

We asked for a frontroom and it exceeded our expectations. The function we were attending was a Rotary Charter Dinner. The food , service and attention to detail was first class. Over the last few years I have been to the Royal Clifton many times and never been disappointed and this was no exception. I would recommend the hotel every time.

We did not like anything about this hotel - within a few hours of checking- in and following a number of disasters, we spoke to the duty Manager and left the hotel. Apart from the hotel's location and several of the staff, both of which were good, we found the hotel to be terrible. We experienced a number of problems: our first room had a sloping ceiling (we are tall people) so would have had to be very careful moving around (no warning about this when the booking was made or at check-in either.) We were given a second room, although more acceptable it was cold, drab and dreary with a small portable tv and a door that could easily have been pushed-in; we had phoned in advance to book two spa facials separately but commencing at the same time. When we got there, the Spa manager flatly refused to acknowledge that the appointments had been made for the same time so one of us would have had to wait an hour for the other to finish. The manager had a bad attitude and was not at all customer friendly. We left without having our treatments. Finally, the reception had not allocated my debit card against purchases in the bar so the staff there said we could not put food on our bill - even though I gave them my card upon arrival. On top of all those things, the hotel is in major need of total refurbishment. The hotel duty manager was helpful and agreed we could leave without charge.
