Location was good, being on the promenade at southport. Not to far away from train station. Room was well appointed and comfortable. Didnt like the way room service meal trays from evening meal were still left outside rooms the next morning when going to breakfast. The conservatory bar was not that inviting of an evening

Staff Friendliness Stupidly overpriced, shower took 5 mins to heat up then scolded you, room outdated, no aircon, windows didnt open properly, furniture damaged and uncomfortable, placed above a wedding, noise until 05.00 with guests in carpark outside our room. Our room was 2star at most. Disappointed that you promote this hotel, will book elsewhere in future. Disgusting experience

A bit disapointed with this hotel, the bar staff through the day just could not be bothered, the bed was uncomfotable having lump and bumps all over it, no entertainment at night. Breakfast was not bad but the meals and snacks from the bar where no better than transport cafe meals. I will not recommend this hotel. The hotel was not cheap and i expected better.

The location was excellent. Hotel was shabby; twin beds were the smallest and cheapest you could probably buy and uncomfortable, bed linen too small for bed; it was not a £105 night hotel more like £50 (even charged me for daily paper); breakfast average;

The hotel is right on the seafront and close to all the shops which is one of the reasons we booked it as it was out 1st anniversary. The staff were very friendly and the young man in the spa was very helpful to us when we went to spend some time down there to relax. We were able to park out car at 9.30am and able to book in half an hour earlier than usual - as I disabled, it gave me the opportunity to have a cat nap before we went out again for the afternoon which I was appreciative of. The breakfast the next morning was very nice and there was plenty of it - help yourself which set us up for our journey back home. We only stayed the one night, but we are considering returning for a family members birthday next year as a group if we can get another offer. The room was very warm (too warm) throughout the day and night even without the heating on - the window was very old and didn't open very far so we didnt get much air in there. On going into the bathroom, the heated towel rail was on full so that may have been part of the reason for the heat filtering into the room. The only downsides we found was the loud, booming base sounds at around 9pm - we were not sure if this was from a local disco, or the wedding reception that was taking place downstairs. It was extremely loud as I am profoundly deaf and I could hear background noise and feel the vibration through the floor. To be fair, it didn't last for long (maybe someone complained?) and once all was quiet we managed to get to sleep. At breakfast, as nice as the breakfast was, the serving tools were extremely hot as they were metal and some of the tongs had no handles - my wife burnt her finger/thumb on them as did not realise this until she picked it up - i had to use a napkin to hold them with to get the food out of the containers. The floor area around the pool etc was very slippy and you had to tentatively walk around the edge as it is also on a slight slope so be careful! The room was somewhat dated but for the night we were there it was perfectly adequate. I would not have been happy to have paid the full price for the room though (we got it on an offer) - it was not worth £130 a night for it.

Choice of places to eat under same roof. Warm. Had a swim before breakfast - fresh towel proveded! Old fashioned and needs updating throughout. Sheets and blankets on bed - would prefer duvet. Breakfast was very busy. Had to wait 20 mins in a queue for a table.

We were going to the Southport Flower Show and the hotel was 3 minutes walk away. Excellent breakfast. The first room was lovely but the heating was on - in August! Nothing could be done about it so we changed rooms. The room was nice but not as good as the first one which was disappointment.However, the staff were very helpful.

The location which was ideal for both the beach and shopping. The bedrooms were a good size with a newly renovated bathroom., In comparison to other Best Western Hotels we felt the food was not of the same quality. Also the menu was very limited and didn't change the second evening and we had to eat out.

Stayed here for the first time in 2 years so I was keen to return. Fantastic room on the top floor, very spacious room, comfortable bed, no complaints. It was a joy to use the leisure facilities, swimming pool water was warm and great, and the steamroom, sauna and the jacuzzi were all fantastic!! I enjoyed the buffet breakfast so bring on the next time I'm there.

The room was front facing (towards the sea ) and therefore more expensive, but worth it for the view and the extra size. Location & parking were excellent. A la carte dining was good. Gym facilities good (swimming before breakfast!). Had a relaxing three days! The "twin" room was Double plus single, Marvellous!

I went there for a day of jazz and that was great. The room was pleasant clean and comfortable. The reception staff were friendly and efficient on the day. The food in the evening was good value. The food at breakfast was of a very low quality and the self service buffet difficult and slow to use. The restaurant was badly organised for both meals and the staff were surly. There was unnecessary queueing for entry and buffet due to inefficiency. For instance the evening menu featured dishes in addition to the carvery but these were not brought to the table. The process explained by a waiter was to 'get them at the carvery' This involved queueig then asking then standing off line until the staff brought them from the kitchen not offering to take them to the table. Because of the jazz I made a 3 day reservation at reception for early Feb next year and asked for an email confirmation that I have not yet received. If it does not arrive I will not go to the jazz festival there.

I was staying with my son, daughter in law and grandson. I thought I had requested for rooms close together but my son and d-in-law were in a room on the lst floor and my grandson and I on the third floor. Because he became anxious, my grandson ended up staying with his parents. The lift was extremely slow and only allowed for four persons at a time. Because of the amount of people checking in and out check in was delayed.

Convenience, location and parking. Good value at the reduced rates, main areas nice and modernised. Spa and pool need tidying, rooms and corridors (in the part I was staying) in need of redecoration.

We asked for a frontroom and it exceeded our expectations. The function we were attending was a Rotary Charter Dinner. The food , service and attention to detail was first class. Over the last few years I have been to the Royal Clifton many times and never been disappointed and this was no exception. I would recommend the hotel every time.

We did not like anything about this hotel - within a few hours of checking- in and following a number of disasters, we spoke to the duty Manager and left the hotel. Apart from the hotel's location and several of the staff, both of which were good, we found the hotel to be terrible. We experienced a number of problems: our first room had a sloping ceiling (we are tall people) so would have had to be very careful moving around (no warning about this when the booking was made or at check-in either.) We were given a second room, although more acceptable it was cold, drab and dreary with a small portable tv and a door that could easily have been pushed-in; we had phoned in advance to book two spa facials separately but commencing at the same time. When we got there, the Spa manager flatly refused to acknowledge that the appointments had been made for the same time so one of us would have had to wait an hour for the other to finish. The manager had a bad attitude and was not at all customer friendly. We left without having our treatments. Finally, the reception had not allocated my debit card against purchases in the bar so the staff there said we could not put food on our bill - even though I gave them my card upon arrival. On top of all those things, the hotel is in major need of total refurbishment. The hotel duty manager was helpful and agreed we could leave without charge.
