Comfortable bed, quiet room.
Tired decor in some areas. Bathroom in need of modernization. Waitress service at breakfast adequate but not very personable i.e never asked whether I would like any sauces with my cooked breakfast or perhaps a refill of tea/ coffee. Breakfast itself was lamentable for a hotel of this standing and at the price paid! One sausage? . A single tomato? All in all I wished I had stayed in the Premier InnI used on my outwood journey
Our room was comfortable and VERY spacious. Staff very friendly and helpful.
We would have eaten in the dining room but it was full - maybe our fault for not booking in advance.-so we ate in the bar. We found the chicken rather dry and overcooked, but could not fault the service.
secure bike storage. nice quiet atmosphere. Good views over the countryside.
showers in the disabled rooms very week and fixed. I would have expected much better quality for the money. TV's now very dated. Need to be flat screen these days.
Helpfulness of waitress in breakfast room, when we arrived for breakfast at 9.50, not having been told on arrival that it finished at 9.30. She made us up a table and did her best to accommodate us.
The room had been inadequately cleaned, the previous occupants sock was still in the corner and there was mascara on the pillow of the second bed which we didn't sleep in. It looked as if it hadn't been decorated for years. The carpet was stained and old, the beds were lumpy and the duvets had few feathers in. In fact the linen was badly ironed. The furniture was knocked about (I laddered some tights on the back of a chair which had splintered wood on it). We were woken in the middle of the night by a car alarm in the car park which our bedroom looked over. The telephone didn't work and the portable heater packed up, we had to use this in the first place because the radiator wasn't working and the room was cold and smelt damp.
I was really well looked after as i have a Gulten allergy and they accomodated my diet ,I would recommend this hotel all anyone
The pillows were rock hard ...spoiling my nights sleep
Location and building
Well over priced with very old style. Nothing was up to date. Poor shower. TV very old and too low to see when on the bed. Would not recommend this to anyone until it was refurbished and price reconsidered
The staff were very friendly and efficient. The rooms were huge with two double beds and it was very comfortable. Good choice of eateries with well cooked reasonably priced food. The views from all the rooms were to die for
Power of the shower, there was none it just dribbled water and the room was too hot, some heaters were on and we couldn't turn them off
Location, general layout of hotel facilities in particular bar and restaurant areas. Leisure facilities great despite under being revamped.
More choice required on a la'carte menu.
Excellent location in easy reach of walking, city visits and historical sites. Comfortable and spacious rooms with good wi fi reception
The hotel is a large building built on a slope, consequently the corridors are not level and have numerous steps along them. This makes it difficult for carrying cases etc. They ran out of the guest beer the first night and did not replace it for the second night!
location / staff/ rooms /
nothing i didnt like
We love the location, the views are stunning. The leisure club is a bonus and the swimming pool was very welcome by our small people.
Whilst the food was good when it arrived, the service was very slow. Rooms are dated.
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, health and leisure facilities.
Room was smelly upon arrival, hotel appeared dirty and outdated. When we sat down for breakfast the table cloth was dirty, with crumbs, hair and stains. The hot breakfast was cold and the fresh juice was warm!
Location - access to attractions such as Hadrians Wall, Weardale, Teesdale, Durham City and other attractions was excellent. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. Despite comments in the next box, we would stay again after the renovations are complete.
Hotel has a major programme of renovation under new owners and it needs it. Whilst bedrooms are of a good size, clean and quiet, they - particularly beds/bathrooms - are tired. TV old and poor. Food is only average and we were particularly disappointed with the breakfasts. It will improve I'm sure.
Our room could not get any wi fi
The drive up to the hotel is a joke and dangerous the so called hot breakfast was lukewarm otherwise ok
Room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. Staff at reception were pleasant as were the bar staff. Good choice at breakfast.
Overpriced food for what you get and the food wasn't the greatest quality. After a long day there was no hot water to have a shower and the bathroom needed a good clean!
The location was wonderful. The room was comfortable with plenty of storage space. The breakfast set me up for the day and the staff were friendly and helpful.
I can honestly say that I found nothing to complain about. The hotel catered for families, cycling parties, couples and wappeared to be treated well.
Ideally situated for me - however I was in a refurbished room - very stylish in black & silver. Shower was good. Breakfast was good
It was only when I got out of the shower I realised there was no mirror in the room - I had to knee on the bed to dry my hair trying to peer in the mirror on the door of the bathroom cabinet. there was also no glass in the room for a drink of water - not pleasant out of a cup. Although I was here on holiday I have to stay in touch with work etc. I had absolutely no wifi and upon complaining I was told it was good in reception - sorry not good enough - a walk across the car park to answer an email is not on. the mobile signal was also intermittent. Although the shower was excellent I thought I had booked a bath. Although refurbished it had been done in a hurry with no gloss on the paint work, temp room signs no hand rail on the stairs & I would have liked a lock or code on the outside door as I did feel vulnerable. There was no info in the room on meal times, fire procedures or leisure facilities. The one evening meal I had looked wonderful but was so greasy the chips were just mush (cod & chips) and I left the majority of it - removing the cod from the batter. Three meals round about went back or were left.
Good location. Staff helpful.
Tired - TV has seen better days.
Standard of catering was poor ordered Lamb Shank got Lamb Chops. Everything was old needed updating. Even the television came over with Noah it was so old. Considering what we paid against others would expect decent view not the car park.
Everything else very overrated
The first room we got had no hot water the upgraded us to another room which was better but when we went to bed we found a beetle in the bed and the room was very cold my partner had to sleep with a cardigan on the breakfast was awful I would not use this hotel again
Good size rooms and staff were great.
Nothing to dislike.
Location, bar area and leisure facilities.
Wi-Fi isn't strong enough to reach some rooms, or even the main bar area
location staff food the look and feel of the hotel Will be back soon
11am check out all outside areas catered for smokers i.e. ashtrays on every table, no clear areas/table for non smokers to sit
