We were due to arrive for a 2-day visit to this hotel on 18th August,
for a family birthday celebration. But, the hotel phoned us on the
afternoon of the 17th, to say there was "no room at the inn"
(and it wasn't even Christmas time!). Apparently, there had been a
booking muddle - we were last booked, so first turned away. There was an
offer of alternative accommodation, but we were not impressed. However,
we phoned Best Western, who were very helpful, and found us very
comfortable accommodation at another Best Western hotel (New Kent,
Jesmond, Newcastle), which welcomed us with a complimentary bottle of
wine. So, we say: we thoroughly recommend the New Kent: it is a
delightful place to stay; thank you to both the New Kent and Best
Western; the Derwent Manor may be great hotel, but we never got the
chance to find out; we might be able to do so, if they sort out their
booking system - but would we want to risk it?!
We didn't get a chance to like or dislike anything!
