Score from 460 reviews Very good
Pretty much everything
Room was rather dark as eco lights didn't give out much power
Really made to feel welcome food was great and the bed so comfy
Excellent restaurant/bar area, the food was definitely a highlight.
No wifi access in the rooms.
Room and bed were amazing. Everything was really clean.
Slow service at breakfast and wasn't particularly good.
I loved this hotel, the staff were very friendly, the food and facilities were excellent and the views and surrounding area was lovely.
Beautiful old hotel, great location on Cotswold Way very dog friendly helpful staff
wifi was bit erretic otherwise nothing!
Ideally situated in picturesque countryside. Ideal for walking and touring.
Hotel getting a little tired, but believe will shortly close for some needed renovation. WiFi cloud only which restricts contacts.
atmosphere clean areas friendly staff
The staff were very friendly and attentive.
No explanation about how to use tne shower.
Good clean rooms, nice bar area, excellent garden seating area, and lovely a la Carte and buffet breakfast. Nice size rooms and very comfortable
Main bar area could be a bit bigger but still not an issue
Helpfulness of staff, attractive room, extremely comfortable bed, good selection of food for breakfast. Quietness of location was a real plus point
WiFi via Cloud account. I do not have a mobile phone this appeared to be a problem in setting up an account, so, no wifi for me which was a little disappointing
Accommodation Noise late at night and early morning
Rooms were clean and functional, we were very grateful to be able to check in 1 hour before usual which was arranged the night previously and the man we chatted to on the phone was very pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious.
There was a cash point in the hotel but this is emptied overnight which is not made clear around it. when we arrived back at the hotel and needed to pay for our taxi this became very difficult. I generally found the staff to be brusque.
Staff were very helpful, breakfast was good.
Needs some updating
Staff were knowledgeable of the area, very approachable and very polite. Hotel was warm and comfortable and food was lovely. Nice walks in surrounding area. Would definitely go again soon.
Wifi needs improving.
Friendliness of staff, comfortable surroundings, clean, very nice breakfast set us up for the day. Good value for money.
Hotel is a bit tired but the welcome made up for this.
The room rate was the cheapest we paid in England and we only stayed a single weekend night! Even more amazing was it included an incredible breakfast with buffet cereals, fruits, breads, pasrtries, juices, yoghurts and a la carte cooked breakfast, the best I've ever had. Great location if exploring the Cotwolds area. Good friendly easy going staff. Good size room with ensuite bathroom.
Bathroom had some mould. WIFI was average.
The bedroom walls were very thin. We were kept awake by next room's snoring. Breakfast was mediocre with bead for toast in plastic bags that you had to reach into and only crust left to make toast with.
Staff were friendly and helpful
Evening meal was poor value. The special steak overcooked and the sauté potatoes undercooked. Not pleasant.
Typical Old Vintage Inns property. Food and drink in the bar were excellent, including several veggie options. Good range of continental and cooked breakfasts. Very clean and looked recently decorated. Good base to explore Gloucester, Avon, Forest of Dean, West Cotswolds.
Service at breakfast could have been quicker at times, but it was a very busy bank holiday weekend.
Just every thing, fantastic food, great staff, spotless through out, we will be back for another holiday at The Royal George Hotel.
location good for getting around the area
worst breakfast I have ever had . bar prices to high . room was a bit shabby
Stayed here for one night to break up our journey from Devon to North Wales. Check in quick and easy, friendly helpful staff who booked a table for us in their restaurant for later that evening. Good sized clean, large comfortable family room with plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits on hospitality tray. Lovely peaceful setting. Evening meal in restaurant was good with plenty of choice on menu, good atmosphere in bar later, with live music. Breakfast was included in the price with quite a good choice, but full English breakfast was adequate, not great and could have been better. Large free on-site car park. As some reviewers have pointed out some areas of the hotel do look rather tired, but it is a 3 star after all and I guess as the saying goes "you get what you pay for". This didn't bother us really as it was adequate for our one night stopover. Location looks ideal if you want a good base for walking and exploring the area. Not too far from M5 motorway, but don't use postcode in sat nav - this takes you to a street on a housing estate about 5 miles in the wrong direction! Type in Birdlip and this works perfectly and takes you straight there - lovely, peaceful little village, and I think the Royal George is the only hotel/pub there so not too difficult to find.
Could have done with some complimentary toiletries in room i.e. Shampoo and shower gel as most hotels provide these now as basics. English breakfast which is included in the room rate seriously requires improvement. It landed on our table rather too quickly when ordered and left us wondering if some of the items had been microwaved - the sausage certainly looked as if it had and was inedible. Completely different to the meal we enjoyed there the previous evening which was really good, maybe different chefs cook the breakfasts. Tired areas in hotel remedied would make all the difference.
Staff very nice ,food excellent and defo ideal for anyone with dog as gorgeous forest walk with fab viewpoint on hotel doorstep and patio doors take you direct onto garden .
On arrival room had unpleasant smell possibly drainage problem but dealt with swiftly and got another room but this was outwith staff control and the room had been well cleaned . Hotel is aged but still fab.
Location, (ideal for walking) friendliness of staff and village locals, bar atmosphere, good pub food.
