Room comfortable with nice big en suite bathroom. Staff friendly. Excellent breakfast. Lots of choice on menu for dinner.
The food and warm cosy room with great shower pressure
I had requested a room with a bath on the booking for (through booking.com) but they never replied to my request and on arrival the room didn't have one! The bar closed early for a Saturday night!
Location close to our next destination Powerful shower Nice toiletries Good breakfast Friendly staff
Nothing of any note
The food was good, and the location excellent.
The poor Wi-Fi reception.
It was a lovely hotel with lots of character. The room was very clean and comfortable.
A bit of a language problem. My partner ordered a full English breakfast but with scrambled egg, she got scrabbled egg with salmon. She didn't to cause a fuss and just ate it. That aside, it was lovely food.
Meals were good quality, Staff were very helpful when required, overall a very relaxing stay.
Other guests were a bit noisy but that is not the fault of the hotel.
Good hotel, food, beer
The atmosphere was warm, friendly and welcoming. The room was clean, cosy and well presented. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Ensuite was clean and towels were good quality and soft!
Not anything not to like in such a great location. Wifi wasn't great but didn't want or need to use it very often.
very Clean and confortable ,
no telphone signal
the food the cleanliness and neatness the bath - big enough to swim lengths in! the friendliness and warmth of the staff the neat key card system that worked! the separate hotel entrance the history and sensitive development of a really old coaching inn the breakfast (OK its food) the piecrust on the chicken, ham and mushroom pie. Mouthmelting shortcrust (OK its food)
TV too small for old, rheumy eyes needed a flannel WiFi was very flaky in my room and was not evident at breakfast
Main issues were a) the staff were efficient eastern European (no locals) which was a bit characterless. b) The staff left the bar hi fi on all night which kept us awake - the owner had no sympathy suggesting it was our fault for sensitive hearing - there was no issue - no apology or discount given c) Food and beer was OK but very average.
Great breakfast. Ate at hotel in the evening and really nice pub food. Near Ullswater and went for a beautiful walk down to the lake in the evening when we arrived.
breakfast was very good
bedrooms was far to small
Food Good Drinks Expensive Rooms Very Clean Bathroom Shower only but fine for us Tea and Coffee in room Just OK
Flies from local farm
Quality of food and friendliness of staff, comfortable room almost as quiet as home!
Breakfast starting at 8.30am is not great for an early start on the fells or setting off on a long journey.
Nice and friendly. Breakfast very good
Nothing to dislike
good size room, quiet area, nice "feel" to the place.
Everything, the room, the food the bar rhe situation rhe staff
Restaurant stops serving food at 8.00pm
Shampoo & shower gel was lovely bed was very comfortable room clean and tidy breakfast was very good wifi was intermittent but that's due to the location and not the hotel
Food looked good but rather bland and quite expensive for standard pub food
A beautiful hotel, charming interier, lovely location, excellent food and even better staff - always polite, friendly and very helpful. It's an ideal place for a quiet, peaceful break or holiday. I wish I could have stayed a bit longer there. I'm sure I will come back again.
There's nothing really to complain about. Perhaps, if there was a mobile signal.
The Royal is in a wonderful location if you want a stay in a rural part of the Lake District. The food was excellent. The accommodations were fine.
Wifi: it advertises itself as having Wifi, but the links are really poor. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed in the evenings
Surrounded by hills, close to Aira Force and Ullswater, not far from main roads to Penrith and Keswick, comfortable, helpful staff, good breakfast included, good beer, pub lunches and dinners, ....
The place was more than we expected
Very helpful and friendly staff excellent food
