“good afforadable hotel. Not very near silverstone though”
Tony,
Tipton
In the heart of the center of Kettering’s conservation area, this former travelers inn from the 17th century offers affordable comfort and style in a convenient location. Whether you are visiting local attractions, wanting to shop in the nearby pedestrianized area or just relax while on business, the Comfort Hotel Royal can meet your needs. The Comfort Royal Hotel is large enough to look after most needs but small enough to provide a personal level of service. This was a perfect place for my daughter and son in law to spend their wedding might. They were very impressed with the suite they had and found it very comfortable. It was perfect for my dStaff were very friendly and helpful. The only problem we had was when I paid in advance, they didn't know about the lower cost I paid through the web site. However this was sorted straight away. Also when they checked out in the morning, they tried to charge them again. And found that my payment had been taken off someone else's room. It was sorted out quite quickly but may have upset some people.

in one word ..... nothing the hotel is desperately in need of a refurbishment. the room we stayed in was disgusting , i can honestly say the worst yet. the ensuite bathroom was the like something from a 70's museum , again the worst i have ever had to use . The continentant breakfast was a joke the staff were incompetent/ unhelpful/disintereted. The only decent thing in our bedroom was the new door , but due to the strength of the door closer and there being no handle on the inside you had to have a grip like garth to open it using the snib of the lock. Basically the hotel is disgusting. if you are thinking of staying here , please please do not . there are a few other hotels up the street which i wish we had considered.

The building itself is very beautiful and it's in a prime location for the town centre. The hotel badly needs updating and although it was a continental breakfast, the choices we're very limited. You had to boil the kettle for a brew and if you were one of the last for breakfast, the foods weren't topped up. The bedrooms are in desperate need of a makeover and the beds were quite un comfy. Having said all that I suppose you get what you pay for. If you're after a budget hotel then it's fine.

It's convenient location I was disappointed with this visit compared to previous visits. No prior information had been given about the renovation which meant the restaurant and bar were closed. The room where breakfast was served was very cold. Granted, it was the coldest weekend of the winter so far, but more effort could have been made to make the room warm. I would not recommend unless the renovations have been completed.

It is bit unfair to critisise the hotel for the behaviour of other guests, particularly on New Year's Eve, but we were given a room which seemed to be in the centre of a block booking of a large party that occupied many rooms with doors kept open and music playing most of the afternoon until we went out. During the night, the noise was exceptional and we got no sleep at all. As far as we knew, the hotel had one duty manager and we saw little point in complaining in the middle of the night on New Year's Eve and it would be a case of one room complaining about many other rooms so we would be in a minority. Although, we have no complaints about the hotel itself, the whole experience would make us reluctant to return.

Good price and location. No resident bar, there was an adjoining bar which seemed to be below my room and the music unfortunately could be heard from my room that night. Shower height adjustment did not work correctly.

The staff were very nice and friendly - that was about it. I am sorry I didnt take a camera to report back to you. The photos of the rooms on a search on the internet for The Royal showed really lovely rooms. So i was greatly disappointed in the interior of the hotel on arrival - very old fashioned and tired and in need of a coat of paint. The room looked like it had been furnished from a mix of things from a 2nd hand shop, cracks in the walls, large black damp spots on windowsills, very dated looking with a big modern flat screen tv on the wall that was almost wider than the bed !! The linens were clean - and having travelled for 17hours I would have slept on clothes line !! - unfortunately I would not rate the hotel at all.

The hotel has been used by the Gotch family for over 200 years This hotel needs complete overall. I visit every year and it seems to be going downhill fast. The existing structure is not being used with any imagination, no need to pull down any architecture, but the space at the back could include a lift and proper toilets for disabled. The nightclub next door, could become the new reception area. All the rooms need new central heating and new windows. Kettering Council are modernising the town, and will be promoting the town as an Arts area. Investment would be rewarding if the hotel is advertised successfully.
