The Royal HotelMarket Place, NN16 0AJ Kettering (Show map) Review score 6.7 Score from 83 reviews“good afforadable hotel. Not very near silverstone though”
Tony,
Tipton
In the heart of the center of Kettering’s conservation area, this former travelers inn from the 17th century offers affordable comfort and style in a convenient location. Whether you are visiting local attractions, wanting to shop in the nearby pedestrianized area or just relax while on business, the Comfort Hotel Royal can meet your needs. The Comfort Royal Hotel is large enough to look after most needs but small enough to provide a personal level of service. Hotel Rooms: 41

The hotel has been used by the Gotch family for over 200 years This hotel needs complete overall. I visit every year and it seems to be going downhill fast. The existing structure is not being used with any imagination, no need to pull down any architecture, but the space at the back could include a lift and proper toilets for disabled. The nightclub next door, could become the new reception area. All the rooms need new central heating and new windows. Kettering Council are modernising the town, and will be promoting the town as an Arts area. Investment would be rewarding if the hotel is advertised successfully.

We were meeting relatives for a meal and the Hotel was just 5 minutes walk from the restaurant We booked for bed and breakfast and when we arrived were told it was Continental only. My husband and I don't like salami etc. There was ham but it looked as though it had been in and out of the refrigerator for a week.I am diabetic so I should eat at regular times. I was offered my money back for breakfast (£5.50) so we ended up paying £20.00 plus for breakfast at a Little Chef. The room was clean although there was wallpaper hanging off the wall. The sister hotel just down the road was being refurbished so I imagine the Royal would be next

We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel and the staff were polite and helpful. My girlfriend wasn't to impressed with the cooked breakfast but she's on the atkins diet so couldn't have all the lovely fruit and cereals on offer.

Ideal location, right in the town centre, and very reasonably priced. Room wasn't great. Couldn't open the window (though a maintenance guy sorted that promptly enough), couldn't use the phone to contact reception (installing a new system) and, bizarrely, couldn't use the main lounge bar for a drink with colleagues at 7pm. Told there was no- one staffing it and we would have to go through to an adjacent bar, down a corridor. Basically, the whole place needs a complete makeover.

Staying with three children is always a chore but the family room was spacious and had good natural light in it. Everybody slept really well and was also able to read and do other stuff after a day out. Lack of hook to put shower into, and the low water pressure made showering fairly difficult.

Room had recently been repainted and was sparkling Shower did not work and looked like it hadn't worked for a while. There were no toiletries in the room and I didn't know if I needed my own or they should have been there. No info in the room guide either. When I told the hotel, I discovered that there should have been there. There was one coffee sachet, one milk and one sugar. I was left to my own devices at breakfast and had to ask for a hot drink. Bread to make toast was in its original bag for everyone to handle. Very Poor

It was ideally situated for my own particular needs. Quite a few issues with the service side. The car park was a little bit cramped.

It's convenient location I was disappointed with this visit compared to previous visits. No prior information had been given about the renovation which meant the restaurant and bar were closed. The room where breakfast was served was very cold. Granted, it was the coldest weekend of the winter so far, but more effort could have been made to make the room warm. I would not recommend unless the renovations have been completed.

The location which in respect of my workplace suited me. The room was in desperate need of refurbishment...basic but adequate for the purpose required. It would not have been worth more than the £30 paid.

It is bit unfair to critisise the hotel for the behaviour of other guests, particularly on New Year's Eve, but we were given a room which seemed to be in the centre of a block booking of a large party that occupied many rooms with doors kept open and music playing most of the afternoon until we went out. During the night, the noise was exceptional and we got no sleep at all. As far as we knew, the hotel had one duty manager and we saw little point in complaining in the middle of the night on New Year's Eve and it would be a case of one room complaining about many other rooms so we would be in a minority. Although, we have no complaints about the hotel itself, the whole experience would make us reluctant to return.

The hotel had very friendly and helpful staff Their were a number of small concerns which made our stay less pleasant than we would have wished: The ceiling of the en-suite in bedroom 6 constantly shed a powdery substance over the floor - very unpleasant! Noisy pipes disturbed sleep in room No. 6 Only one cup in each of the two room (on tea tray) - Our family stayed in rooms 6 and 10. White towels had black marks on. Hotel badly needs re-decorating.

Good price and location. No resident bar, there was an adjoining bar which seemed to be below my room and the music unfortunately could be heard from my room that night. Shower height adjustment did not work correctly.
