This small, family-run hotel has free Wi-Fi and free parking. It is in the centre of Castletown, close to Thurso and Wick and only minutes from the Castle of Mey.
Score from 106 reviews Good
The last hotel on the A9, The Ferry Inn at Scrabster is newly renovated and has wonderful sea views. Just north of Thurso, Scrabster Harbour is the gateway to the Orkney Islands.
Score from 188 reviews Very good
A stylish bed and breakfast in mainland Scotland’s most northerly town, Bed and Breakfast at 4 in Thurso enjoys a town centre location just 5 minutes’ drive from the ferry to Orkney.
Score from 128 reviews Superb
Centrally located hotel in the heart of Thurso, ideal for business or leisure travel.
Score from 107 reviews Very good
Central location, friendly, helpful staff, clean, comfortable bedrooms, good housekeeping & very good breakfast included in price. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing comes to mind at all.
Staff friendliness Location Breakfast
Wifi only worked for 10 mins Room a little small Heating didn't work
Nice and comfy place for the price, nothing to complain about! The hotel could use a bit of refurbishing but again, for the price, it really was worth it!
Good location, friendly and helpful staff and very clean.
A bit mean leaving two teabags and two cartons of milk in the bedroom. Had to ask for more.
The restaurant across the street
Having to checkout 4 other rooms since some had dampness - Our family members suffered sleepiness nights due to the wild young drivers speeding up and down the mains street during the early hours of the morning.
It was only 5 min walk from shop's and seafront
Hotel's proximity to local restaurants
My room was a very long way from reception. A lot of stairs and corridors, a bit like a maze. This hotel is more suited to the tour buses. The hotel food was bland and again seemed to cater for the tour bus.
Staff were friendly and efficient
The price was the only good point
The hotel is pretty run down and just, well, tired. The fire alarm that went off at 0645 on a Saturday morning was most unwelcome... Breakfast was very average.. Staff were dull and disinterested...
We liked nothing.
The room & Hotel was smelly and damp, the bathroom and shower where a disgrace, very dirty. The evening meal came from the freezer and the breakfast was very poor!
Difficulty with getting luggage to a room miles away from car parking facility, street noise, both vehicles and people, a dreadful rabbit warren to find rooms, (we had to change rooms, so we did have 2), the food in the dining room was sub standard, breakfast and dinner, staff in the dining room not knowing about drinks lists or menu. We watched 8 people get turned away at dinner, as it appeared to be too hard for the staff to combine tables together or change the ones that were set for breakfast!
The room was basic but clean - all I needed. It was a good price and included a 'full English' (or Scottish) breakfast.
My room was too far away to make use of the free wi-fi but I was right at the end of the building - it worked fine elsewhere
Fire alarm at 600am
good breakfast, nice lady at reception
very dated hotel, some smelly areas, bathroom with small and uncomfortable shower
Good location and very good value. Good breakfast.
Car park is very small so could be an issue if busy. Some of the public areas in the hotel are a little 'tired' - this seems typical of this chain - 'Bespoke Hotels' i.e. good value but often needing modernising.
The grumpy female waitress in the morning serving the breakfast
Location very good in the centre of Thurso.
The central location was ideal. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was reasonable.
This hotel consisted of miles of rambling corridors and lots of stairs, how you would get out in an emergency I do not know. The Royal is an old building and it shows, its dark, dirty and for senior's like us hard work getting luggage from car to room. My advice if your looking for accommodation in Thurso is to give The Royal Hotel a miss.
Nice and comfortable room. The "older" lady in reception extremely pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was fine and served very quickly in spite of the big coach party also having breakfast at the same time.
We had a nice stay. If I was to be picky...then a new shower curtain + toilet holder is needed...
great central location,good double room,plenty free parking,good breakfast,friendly staff,good value for money.
window in room very mouldy with condensation,as was shower, mobile phone signal not good, room could be doing with a refurbishment.
haveing to park car in Co Op car park
Clean, comfortable room — nice breakfast
Slow wifi; slow front desk.
Very friendly and helpful staff
