“I use The Royal Hotel 2 or 3 times per year, I'm known to the staff - it's in the middle of town - it's fit for purpose. I've used most of the hotels in Thurso at some point over the past 12 years, I know what to expect when I get there.”
Derek,
Dundee
Located close to the center of the small town of Thurso, this is an excellent base for exploring the north coast. Centrally located for business or tourism, near bus station and train station, the Royal's friendly atmosphere is unmatched. Situated in the center of town, amenities, including an interesting selection of stores, are within easy walking distance. A perfect base for business, with the friendly public bar and atmosphere of the Orkney Restaurant, the Royal Hotel will cater for all your needs. The north coast of Scotland is an almost untouched paradise with miles of white sandy beaches contrasting with the craggy headlands and dramatic cliffs. Hotel Rooms: 102, Hotel Chain: Oxford Hotels & Inns. Most recent booking for this hotel was yesterday at 10:02 from Australia.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We were attracted to the hotel by the special offer. Our room was clean and tidy, a bit small but it did have everything expected. The hotel interior looks old and tired. I would not stay at this hotel if the full price had been charged

A suitable location for an overnight stay before taking next day ferry. An economically comfortable, warm hotel - no luxury, yet staff polite and helpful

I have stayed there before, I like Caithness, and Thurso is centrally located. I like going back to the same hotel, it's very good There is nothing that I don't like about the Royal Hotel, the bedrooms will need renovating as does the service lift.

Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was very nice as well. You get the standard of hotel you pay for. Daughters room, not cleaned properly, and her bathroom had poo in toilet, and smelt like there was a blockage in the sewer system. We had 2 single rooms on the top floor of the hotel facing the main road and where there was a junction in the road as well. These roads are used by everyone going to the night club and back home again so noise, but then you have boy racers that kept circling round the town all day until 3.30am on Friday and Saturday night, there exhausts where very loud and you could not sleep as they were driving past every other minute. Hotel very dated.

Central location As a result of parking restrictions vehicles cannot stop outside the front of the hotel. Therefore luggage etc has to brought in from the rear of the building and carried upstairs.

Good location, very large family Room, friendly staff throughout hotel. Only shower in room, not much choice at breakfast and no lunchtime meals available. Hotel is right in the middle of Thurso and considering price for 3nights b&b will be using on next visit.

Went to the bar next door and didn't realise at first that it was part of the hotel. We ordered dinner - I thought the menu was very poor. I got pasta with chicken which was horrible. A plate of tasteless pasta swimming in a watery cream sauce! My mother got Cumberland sausage. I thought there would have been more traditional foods especially for visitors to Scotland. If that's the best we can offer visitors to Scotland then they must get a very poor impression of us.

This was a convenient hotel for a first time visitor to the area with a welcoming and friendly staff. The food was very good and most suitable for my needs. The hotel was warm and friendly. Should I be visiting the area in the future I would not hesitate to arrange to stay at the same hotel again.

Hotel ideally situated near both the bus drop off point and the railway halt. Also not to far off the main shopping area and Tourist Information Centre. I julst loved the old fashioned revolving door at the entrance. Main let down was breakfast. A traditional Scottish breakfast or cereals are not to everyones liking. I would like to have seen scrambled eggs and rolls on the menu along with the above.

Place and architectonical style (typical Scotish) Some parts of the hotel were painted during my stay. The heating spiral in the kettle in the room was strongly corroded.

Decor may have been a little shabby, but the staff more than made up for it with their friendly, welcoming manner. They really could not have been more helpful. A few problems in my room on arrival were addressed and sorted within the hour. Breakfast was fine and bar meals were reasonably priced and very nice. Location right on the main street was perfect and parking in the evening was no problem. Rooms were warm and beds comfortable. Overall I don't know what more anyone could want from a hotel, particularly at the price offered. I will certainly stay there again next time I am in Thurso.
