Royal HotelTraill Street, KW14 8EH Thurso (Show map) Pleasant, Score from 127 reviews“I use The Royal Hotel 2 or 3 times per year, I'm known to the staff - it's in the middle of town - it's fit for purpose. I've used most of the hotels in Thurso at some point over the past 12 years, I know what to expect when I get there.”
Derek,
Dundee
Located close to the center of the small town of Thurso, this is an excellent base for exploring the north coast. Centrally located for business or tourism, near bus station and train station, the Royal's friendly atmosphere is unmatched. Situated in the center of town, amenities, including an interesting selection of stores, are within easy walking distance. A perfect base for business, with the friendly public bar and atmosphere of the Orkney Restaurant, the Royal Hotel will cater for all your needs. The north coast of Scotland is an almost untouched paradise with miles of white sandy beaches contrasting with the craggy headlands and dramatic cliffs. Hotel Rooms: 102, Hotel Chain: Oxford Hotels & Inns.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We were attracted to the hotel by the special offer. Our room was clean and tidy, a bit small but it did have everything expected. The hotel interior looks old and tired. I would not stay at this hotel if the full price had been charged

Old tired place, bar didn't open till 5pm. Tv reception and position was awful and no black pudding at breakfast. The excuse was it hadn't been delivered yet. Well the day before is the time to get it even if it comes from the local butcher 100 yds. Away from the hotel. The evening menu was upnspiring-we ate out. Thank God for The Bistro, definately the 'jewel in the crown' as far as Thurso was comcerned.

Place and architectonical style (typical Scotish) Some parts of the hotel were painted during my stay. The heating spiral in the kettle in the room was strongly corroded.

Excellent price ans friendly staff. Very noisy at the front on Saturday night and quite a bit of decoration etc going on. Surprised how noisy people and cars late evening early morning. A back room may have been quieter.

Action taken by manager to address issue with food served for dinner Shoddy unkempt place, lack of attention to detail in rooms / dining room, staff spent most serving times chatting with friends etc

It was convenient for a stop-over as I had travelled by train from Derby and arrived late in the evening and needed to catch the ferry to Orkney the following morning. My room was clean and comfortable and warm. I was too late getting up to have the breakfast, which was a pity, but it did mean I had slept well ! I would certainly stay there again.

Decor may have been a little shabby, but the staff more than made up for it with their friendly, welcoming manner. They really could not have been more helpful. A few problems in my room on arrival were addressed and sorted within the hour. Breakfast was fine and bar meals were reasonably priced and very nice. Location right on the main street was perfect and parking in the evening was no problem. Rooms were warm and beds comfortable. Overall I don't know what more anyone could want from a hotel, particularly at the price offered. I will certainly stay there again next time I am in Thurso.

Courteous staff, easy to book, central location, good price. The hotel is a bit run down but this is not a complaint. Being vegetarian, and notifying the hotel in advance of this fact, I was a bit disppointed to find that there was no provision made for vegetarians, ie my breakfast just had no meat in it - there were no vegetarian sausages (which there had been last time I stayed here). There was a large number of guests staying that night and with 103 rooms there must surely be other vegetarians who stay there?

Easilly found, car parking facility, staff very helpfull and friendlly. Room comfortable. We got our room for £50 approx which was fine but I believe the rate is usually £85 which would have been a bit pricey for the standard. I have no complaints to make, perhaps a bit of upgrading, painting etc

The Hotel was clean and the staff were nice. The breakfast was better than any review we had read you could have Fruit and cereal or cooked breakfast as well as toast which was cooked how my wife asked for which was a change. We were woken in the early hours by the fire alarm. Someone had been smoking in the hotel room and it spoilt a nice short stay. I know it was not the fault of the staff but sorry to the guests as they are checking out is not that hard is it. I hope the person responsible was dealt with correctly.

Location was excellent. It was clean and had an interesting old-world atmosphere. Breakfast staff were slow to offer assistance (or indeed, breakfast). My bed sagged and my toilet made a terrible clunking sound. Being charged a lot more for staying on a Saturday night when I wasn't warned about this beforehand.

I was collecting a cyclist from John o Groats. The geographical location was good for me. My bar meal in the evening was very good, quickly served, well presented and tasted good. A reasonable breakfast, could have had more items. I payed 30 pounds as I booked through the internet, I do not think it would be good value if I had paid the standard charge of 50 pounds. My room was very small. The television was very old, the colour was very poor and the handset struggled to work so I had to operate it from the front of the tv set. It would have been good to have a couple more 13 amp sockets to charge phones and laptopp

Good value for money, nice room, and comfortable bed after a ten hour drive from Yorkshire. Good breakfast. We took the 1.30 ferry to Orkney to dive Scapa Flow over three days. We will recommend your hotel to freinds.
