Unexpected extras:bottled water, orange juice and kitkats in the fridge on arrival and replaced when room cleaned. We enjoyed using the swimming pool but no time for the gym.Our room was small and the a strange shape as the hotel has used neighbouring rooms to make each room en-suite. We had everything we needed and very nice touletries, which were also replaced. The hotel is in a fantastically central location. Use the back door to enter directly from the station to avoid the steps at the front. The chandeliers and tiling are worth a look. The luggage storage room is next to reception and is unlocked. Guests must put their luggage in themselves. There is no control over who puts in and takes out. A system where staff give out receipts for each item and control what goes in with no guest access would be more secure.

The whole experience and the convenience of the room. The view into the air shaft, but that can't be helped, someone must have it!

The ambience - it had none of the feeling of the big chain hotels. The entrance hall is beautiful and the restaurant very tastefully designed. All ths staff were extremely helpful. For me, proximity to the rail station is the clincher. I was able to drop my case off on arrival before heading to my business meeting and leave it there on my final day before collecting later for my return home, I was on the 4th floor and there was no lift for the final stage to my room. As I was carrying 2 cases (a luggage one and one for business), that was rather cumbersome. I suppose I could have asked staff for help - but was not informed on reception that my room was beyond lift access?

Impressive entrance foyer and chandelier. We liked the view from our bedroom window of the Tyne Bridge and the castle. We were lucky to be able to use one of the hotel's free car parking spaces. We asked for a quiet room amd it was very quiet. Quite a long way from reception to the bedroom, involving having to use some stairs both up and down as well as using the lift

This hotel is brilliant value for money and great location for city centre. I stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and that's what made me return. All the rooms have had a refurb and are to a very High standard. Can't praise this hotel anymore. The hotel also offers a nice small poor and gym. Wouldn't think twice about booking again.

On entrance very grand, chandelier and fun plants dotted around the grand staircase on each floor the was particularly fun when drunk. Staff at reception were polite but distracted, bar staff very friendly and helpful. Meal at restaurant was fast, atmosphere was relaxed, and food was damn tasty. Hotel very clean apart from windows being mouldy and old. 4Th floor had view of shoes and various debris. But inside our room was very spacious, clean, modern and useful facilities etc enjoyed mini bar snacks. Not enough milk pots in fridge ee bah gum. Too many porn channels, not enough music and would like to see film4.

Excellent location in City Centre adjacent to main railway station. Complimentary orange juice and KitKat chocolatd bar in addition to more usual tea and coffee in the room. Spacious, immaculately clean bathroom. Somewhat small attic room with a tiny window. Poorest artificial lighting I have ever come across in a hotel room - not possible to read in bed. Sketchy bed-making with the duvet merely pulled up over still riumpled sheets.

We enjoyed the central location of the hotel. It had a good atmosphere and was very welcoming. We had a special reason to stay there as we had spent the first night of our honeymoon there 50 years ago - so it was very special to return. Price was good for city centre hotel and it is a good idea to charge for breakfast separately as one does not always want breakfast or have time for a proper breakfast. Felt they could have offered at bit more up market restaurant for that type of Victorian grandeur hotel - that is probably what I remember most from 50 years was the very large "posh" dining room which is now the Victoria Suite Room I think. We had one evening meal and it was good but not as "sophisticated" as one could remember - price was very good though!

Nice room and facilities. Service at breakfast slow and inattentive, despite the presence of only 3 customers. The poached egg I had required had to be cancelled after nearly 15 moms wait, after which breakfast and coffee had already been consumed!

The hotel was lovely, staff very helpful. Overall excellent value for money. One down-side was the nightclub was advertised at staying open but when inquired at 12 it was shutting. Also through no fault of your own (I believe) the fire alarms went off and had to evacuate which didn't help as I was catching a train at 9am after drinking until 2am...

A modern, clean hotel with friendly and efficient good English speaking staff. Good leisure facilities, although handrails would have greatly improved safety, especially when entrering/leaving jacuzzi pool. Good quality single room - although door into room bathroom did not leave much space for manoeuvre- a sliding door would have overcome this.
