The atmosphere and old world charm of the place and the breakfast was excellent.
The breakfasts were very good, the beds were comfortable and the rooms and showers were quite nice. The location is tough to beat. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful.
The wifi was absolutely atrocious. Saying they offer it is almost an outright lie. No early check-in of any kind, no matter what transatlantic flight you've crawled off of. The place was extremely stuffy and rigid. It's not really a complaint, as they're up front about it, but worth bearing in mind that this is an old private military / veteran members club. It's still active as such and their rules / staff reflect it. They were all helpful, polite and courteous but rules were most definitely rules even ones that defy common sense and reason.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Despite it being centrally situated in Edinburgh it was really very quiet.
From the minute we walked through the door to the minute we walked out we loved every moment. The staff were friendly, the room was beautiful and the beds were so comfortable. So easy to get to the city centre, would certainly visit again.
I have nothing negative to say at all
Library Staff attitude Food was excellent Room size good Reasonable price
In the middle of a busy, bustling and vibrant City, the calm and peaceful comfort of the Royal Scots Club was a perfect oasis. Our King Room had beautiful views across the Firth of Forth, super comfy, superking bed and spotless bathroom with powerful shower. Breakfasts were very good quality with efficient but unobtrusive table service and Reception staff were unfailingly polite. The Royal Scots Club does tradition done very well indeed.
Myself and my husband were booked for 3 nights , after researching the hotel was really looking forward to our stay.we arrived Fri evening tired and were told our room was cancelled I don't believe this as I received confirmation a few days earlier, they ran us out of the place so fast said they booked us into another property and a taxi was coming and I had to pay up front for the other hotel, which I had not even seen. After settling in to other hotel I was so happy that we had nothing to do with the Royal Scots Club.
Fabulous breakfasts in a beautiful building; great location - walkable to all City centre areas.
lovely atmosphere and perfect location
Room got cold. Heating only on for short while in evening
Amazing old army club, historic and fascinating but with top notch rooms and fantastic staff. It has lovely lounge bar area for guests which was great as we had visited for a family wedding. Breakfast is amazing and the quality is great. I loved this hotel!
quite small room
In a good location a short walk to the main town but in a very quiet terrace that has not much traffic flowing past it. Breakfast was always excellent with plenty of variety and portions.
Nothing not to like but would always go for the upgraded king room as a preference
The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was outstanding
The room was quite stuffy and the bed had a huge lump in the middle making it very uncomfortable to sleep.
Quiet. View in the distance of the Firth.
Large crumpled piece of cling film in the fruit salad at breakfast which I had to extract from my mouth!
Décor of room 11 Breakfast was very tasty Fantastic location
The staff is helpful. The breakfast is delicious. The location is good as near the bus stop.
The desk, the kettle, cups in the room are covered with dust !!!!! The wifi is a bit troublesome that it needs to keep on login !!!!!!
Twin room was in basement but surprisingly light with fair sized windows, spacious and quiet at the rear of the building. No traffic noise and although a large dinner/party was taking place on the same level, it could not be heard from the room. Good breakfast.Able to check in any time leaving luggage in store. Plenty of hot water and a good sized bath. I would visit again
shower curtain grubby/old- suggest replace with a glass partition. Also I tried to contact the club in advance via their website to enquire about the room and did not receive a reply. I subsequently telephoned and did receive accurate information.
Location,Staff, Price, All in all a great stay no complaints worth mentioning.
This is really an outstanding place. Even the breakfast was terrific. Our room was spacious and quiet. The staff was quite helpful. Good restaurants within easy walking distance although theirs was fine. A great value.
What a beautiful place, we couldn't find fault with anything. The staff very helpful, food excellent, rooms beautiful. Helped make our weekend one to remember.
Nothing at all!!
we had a great time and hopefully will come again its a wonderfull place to stay
that we were just for 2 nights
Great breakfast, especially the porridge. A beautiful building with true 'members club' atmosphere. Very comfortable bed. Nice bar and public rooms. Helpful staff. Perfect quiet position for exploring Edinburgh on foot.
Room rather cold at first. Heating didn't come on one evening until I mentioned it to staff.
central location old building charm
Excellent location away from the night life at the weekend. Very helpful friendly staff, very clean throughout , Our room was amazing (room 16) had everything you needed in it and the most comfortable bed. Breakfast was great lots to choose from an brilliant staff. Is a lovely place would highly recommend it we are so glad to have stayed at the royal scots hotel. We will stay again when we return to Edinburgh in the future.
The only thing I would say that wasn't so great is after a 4am start on saturday coming to Edinburgh being woken up to the sound of bag pipes being played at 10.30pm on Saturday night and again at 11pm in the function room next to us with visitors having their conversations in the door way. Monday morning woken up by staff having loud conversation at 7am but again the breakfast room is was next to our room. The kettle could be updated in the room. Wouldn't put me off staying again
