A place to stay with historical connections. Excellent staff. Good breakfast and the one evening meal we had was the same. Quiet location less than half a mile from Princes St and there are many restaurants and pubs on the way

Oldie Worldie.Love the idea of dress code "shame there was a wedding party who were not told or chose to ignore it"Your staff are very nice and helpful but you always get " one" Your night porter could do with a course on how to be cheerful and pleasent to clients.

The 'hotel', which is based on the Major Officers' Club in Scotland (ie rather like the Army and Navy club in London), is in a run of magnificent Adams houses in one of the best streets in the New Town of Edinburgh. The conversion has meant some sacrifices of Georgian style - but has preserved many others, eg a splendid dining room on the piano nobile. An excellent location and reasonable value for money - if you spend more than one night to qualify for the lower rates. The Club does have its downside - a slightly stuffy atmosphere compared with the more boutique town house hotel - but these alas are now few and far between!

I wanted to stay at a hotel that made me feel I was in Scotland, not some anodine anywhere hotel and one without the faux tartan. You cant get more Scottish than this. We have stayed before. The location is perfect- in the beautiful New Town right by the shopping/art/tourist areas opposite lovely gardens and nice and quiet. The staff cant do enough for you. The public rooms are gorgeous and our bedroom - a 4 poster-bedded room overlooking the gardens( which we were given as a free upgrade) was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. a joy to wake up in. The price, through booking.com was remarkably good for this quality of hotel. We will certainly go again Although the choice at breakfast was very good and some of the cooked food was great - the porrige and the poached eggs in particular, some of it felt like it had been sat and warmed up. The scambled eggs had been waiting a while, the tomatos and mushrooms had clearly been held under a heat lamp and we didnt get a warm slice of toast the whole time we were there. Maybe a bit picky but small changes in the kitchen would make a big difference to the quality of the breakfast.

Shame that you do not do a room service option for breakfast. As it cost a lot and not to get breakfast if you over sleep having paid £162.00 made the stay disappointing. Not having room service

Stayed over New Year 2011/12. Hotel has maintained its origins as a military club and is furnished accordingly. Room (21) was large and very comfortable. Not many places you get a chaise lounge to "drape" your clothes over!!! Bed was very comfortable if on the firm side, which might not be for everyone. Room was very warm and the central heating was excellent. Bathroom was well appointed with an excellent shower and plenty of piping hot water. Breakfast was excellent and service was good. Staff on desk were extremely helpful and gave spot on advice. All in all, a very pleasant stay and would recommend and use again These are observations not complaints. Querky bedside lights, may not be for everybody. Unusual to find sheets and blankets instead of the usual duvet at this sort of hotel. Possibly not enough power points near desk for a business traveller. Tv was an old crt model with a freeview box, would have thought for the cost flat screen tv would be the norm. Having said that it worked fine. Basement location of some rooms may not appeal to all. Dress code should be made more obvious on booking form. Unusual but nice in a way, in these very"casual" times

Central location, close to Princes Street, particularily enjoyed the restaurant and the staff were extremely helpful. The bar area was particularily welcoming, unfortunately it was rather taken over by a large crowd of business people, however we were able to use the members lounge which was like stepping back in time. All in all a very enjoyable experience The absence of a car park could create a problem for people bringing their own car, although there are meters nearby

We found our stay at the Club extremely enjoyable. The staff were very friendly, courteous and efficient. Breakfast was excellent. The room was very comfortable. All I can say is that it was a unique experience. The only downside to room 10 was that it did go very cold. The sash windows were very drafty and the radiator is under the window so bit of a double edged sword. Once you closed the curtains there was no heat in the room. We did ask for a portable heater but it did not arrive. However we did not complain too much as it is December and it was on one of the windiest evenings of the month!

It is very coveniently located in the New Town, perfect for seeking out restaurants and near to all shops. The rooms are comfortable. The breakfast was ok with very good service. We thought the hotel felt a bit "tired". The room was comfortable but very old fashioned, without the luxury feel of a country house hotel. We made a complaint about the light over the wash basin not working but noone ever turned up to put it right. There was an overall feeling that the hotel exists as a function house for dinners(often military),weddings, meetings, rather than a special place to stay. The breakfast was adequate but not particularly wonderful ,though the service was extremely good.

A good old-fashioned club / hotel but with no compromise on comfort, nor any pretentiousness. Lovely surroundings, architecture and fittings. Staff are first class for the cost of the club.

I loved its history, character and military background which I was not aware of when booking. I liked the fact that it was homely and friendly and not over crowded. Very suitable for a solo traveller who could enjoy the peace and quiet of the lounge after a long day's work. Very convenient to the city with good facilities and comfortable rooms. Food and service were excellent. Fair price.

We loved the history of the Royal Scots and the regimental connection. We are history buffs and to be able to stay in the club was a real treat for us. The staff was excellent, very kind, helpful, and fun. The room was fantastic and the facilities were excellent. We had a blast coming back from our evening out to join some veterans at the lounge and get to know them a little.

We stayed at The Royal Scots Club for three nights and loved it, location was good within easy reach of all the main attractions and about a 7 minute walk to Princes Street. We were in Room no 4 which was spotless with a large comfortable bed, big bathroom with both a bath and shower facilities seperate which is unusual nowadays. The big bonus is the complimentary tea, coffee, water and not forgetting the shortbread a lovely extra touch and much appreciated after being out sightseeing all day.Breakfast was fablous and we were spoilt for choice even given a menu to choose from and then served by a very friendly and efficient waitress.A special mention to William on reception who was very friendly and always had a smile for everyone. When we return to Edinburgh we will stay again at The Royal Scots Club as we had a most enjoyable trip.
