The reception guy was professional and friendly, it was easy to rebook a room by phone and he remembered me from my previous trip to London. The rooms are OK for a one night stay and the location is great, across the street from the British Museum! The breakfast room was nice and the service was efficient and personable.

Location is excellent and it's on a quiet street. There is a lift and a comfortable lounge room. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is excellent and plentiful. It is marginally expensive for a room without a shower and toilet, but everything is kept very clean, including the communal facilities, and that is really everything. My single room was small, the furniture a bit jaded but neither mattered, on a visit to London rooms are only for sleeping in! I've stayed here before and I will stay here again. Recommended.

It had a lift (elevator), which several B&Bs in the area do not. It had telephone service in the room (same comment). It had a good full English breakfast. (Though very much like other B&B's in the area). The house was decorated with interesting artwork. The staff was very friendly and helpful in emergencies --when a temporary cleaning person accidentally threw a bag of my purchases into the rubbish, the staff went to a lot of trouble to retrieve it. When I accidentally locked myself out of my room late one night, staff quickly came and let me in. When the phone in my room had a technical problem, staff had it fixed the next day. The location -- across the street from the British Museum and a short walk from the Russell Square Tube station --was very helpful for my purposes (study and research). There was no individual TV (or radio) in the room (unlike several other cheaper B&B's in the area). There were TVs in the breakfast room and the lounge, but the breakfast room TV was regularly set to Sky news and the lounge one (depending on who was present) was often set to al-Jazeera and other foreign channels -- it was difficult to get local news on weather, transportation etc. This last issue may vary with kind of guests present. The hotel did not offer in-house laundry service (unlike some, though not all, other cheaper B&B's in the area), It was necessary to take clothes several blocks to a laundromat. The partitions between rooms were very thin so sounds came through from other rooms. (This is typical of most B&Bs in this area as they are subdivided old houses.) There was a stain on the carpet and one of the lights did not work (But I did not think to report these issues so it may be my fault they were not fixed,) The price was significantly higher than other B&B's in the area without providing, to my mind, substantially better facilities. On the other hand, it was significantly lower than the more elaborate hotels in the area (including the Montague next door) so in that sense it still could be considered a bargain.

My adult children and I stayed in a family room with bathroom en suite. The room was clean and comfortable. The location at the back of the building was very quiet. Breakfast was good, the staff was friendly and polite, and the desk attendant was very helpful. The location was excellent. I would stay there again.

It was pretty good hotel. At first excellent location, and nice price for a london hotel. And also, breakfast was not bad. I liked it, and I hope to stay at Ruskin hotel again when I go to London again. Between the rooms, the noise is coming throught the walls. But it's ok like that. Ruskin Hotel is not a palace, and it's not bad for that price.

Loved the location and price. Was everything I needed for the money. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. The sheets and shared bathroom were clean. Perhaps could pay more attention to cleanliness as there was some dust in the room.

Excellent value but no frills. No tv and shared bathroom and shower, but a sink in your room. Bed not that comfortable. It was evident that most people stayed just a few nights. We stayed 7. The full english breakfast was basic and the same each day.

Tv watching of the Masters golf was good. Convenience to British Museum great. Not getting full breakfast on day of departure was disappointing. I had to leave for train at 7.45, but no breakfast was served until 8 due to bank holiday.

Ideally situated for the British museum. Stuck in the Kate sixties early seventies. Everything was soiled old and dated and barely working. At £105 per night not a back packer hostel but felt like one. Poor

The budget hotels in this area of London (Bloomsbury) are among the worst and most over priced in the world. Ruskin Hotel has rather a better location and less awful hygiene than its competitors. Extremely unwelcoming and rude personnel, particularly Alex. Treat returning clients like vagrants and/or con artists. Make payment extremely difficult. If you are expecting a warm welcome or pleasant treatment, book elsewhere.

I liked the lounge area and the super thoughtful and helpful staff. I overheard a discussion about credit card charges with another visitor and was impressed with the explanation of credit card use/ ethics the staff was giving the customer. The staff was firm and clear and I was impressed with the high standards and diplomacy. I didn't like my charges being converted from pounds to US $ on my credit card without my consent. I would have prefered my bank to make the conversion and this wasn't explained to me in advance.

I really appreciated the geographical situation, the hotel was located right behind the british museum and a 5 minute walk to the station tottenham court road underground, which was so practical. We had a really nice stay, the shower on the first floor were just amazing looking, we were really nervous when having to book a hotel with the bathroom exlcuded of our room but we were really pleased to see how clean and how spacious and nice the bathrooms were!!! There are two negative points that I would like to write about, first the breakfast is not consistent and it is clearly not good for people who will have to stay for more than 2 or 3 days because you are going to receive the same food over and over again. Also, not very suited for vegetarian because it is a pure english breakfast with meat everywhere!!! Second, the checkin is very late, I think that it was around 2pm and it means that you have to be out and about with your luggage until then, which for us was a nightmare!!

First of all the price and second the location. It is located between Russell Square and Holborn tube stations, which are both only a ten minute walk away. It is also located right across from the British Museum. There is a wifi connection but only in the communal room on the ground floor where the lights are switched off at 11:00 pm. So if you want to use the wifi to connect with people in different time zones, you have to do it in the dark. Furthermore, there are no amenities like shampoo, toothbrushes or toothpaste, shower caps and the minuscule pieces of soap are ridiculous. The breakfast provided is also minimal.

“The hotel as a cosy feel to it. The staff were very polite and accomodating. Although the rooms are small they served their purpose very well. Our room was clean and nicely decorated with a nice en suite bathroom. The hotel was warm and quiet. For a busy central London area this was an excellent choice. We were 2 minutes walk from the Dominion Theatre for our show and 5 minutes walk from the British Museum and Oxford St was just round the corner. Great value for money considering the location. Would definitely stay there again.” Lorraine, Norwich |
