The view at the rear from our bedroom window of the steam trains on the North York Moors Railway
Squeezing our car through the narrow approach to the car park was difficult. The establishment needs a lot of money spending on it. The bathroom was tiny and spartan.Breakfast was just about ok. Externally the place looks attractive, however looks can be deceptive.
Nicely preserved historic property. Close to Whitby which was perfect. Liked the use of the honor bar. Parking at the property was helpful too.
Since we booked last minute we had a very small room with a bathroom that had a sliding door right next to the bed. Obviously not good for any privacy but I'm sure they tried to make the most of a room in an old property.
A friendly and helpful reception in an interesting building. A comfortable bed and reasonable facilities. The room was generally well kept. A good cooked breakfast. In easy reach of Whitby and the moors. The Whitby "Park and Ride" was reasonably close.
We found some surfaces e.g. bedside tables dusty. We would have liked a wider choice of breakfast cereal.
The location, the character, the comfortable rooms. The smoked kippers! The honesty bar was also a very welcome addition!
its location for an individual without a car a short walk to ruswarp railway station and the bus stop to Whitby malton and leeds
The building was built about 1603 and has a lot of character.
Lipstick on a cup and dirty cutlery.
Rooms great , breakfast high quality, staff friendly and helpful, will definitely be returning and will recommend to friends and family
Stunning building, quite location, yummy room & breakfast. Some nice touches like the honestly bar. Decoration was perfect. Great place to stay, footpath walk to Whitby highly recommended & the butchers award winning!!! First class!!
hotel, surroundings and everything about our stay
Location, fab host and great breakfast. Old 1602 home was amazing. Nice toiletries
Very thin internal walls so noise from next door and above on floors. Bed needs to be updated as does the shower which you cannot use by yourself and without watering the rest of the bathroom.
Loved it all! Enjoyed the lounge downstairs for drinks in the evening. Our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable.
The only thing was probably the tiny sink in the bathroom as we seemed to get more water on the floor than in the sink! The icing on the cake would have been if there were real fires in the entrance way and lounge.
Me and my girlfriend stayed here for the weekend and what a wonderful time we had staff was exceptionally friendly and willing to help with anything that you may need help with breakfast was the best breakfast i have had in any bed and breakfast to date location is not bad ether just a 10 min walk to Whitby harbor the walk is quite confusing in places thou and goes up and down some very steep steps so if you are not great on your feet then i would suggest giving it a miss local taxis are exceptional and very fair priced too so booking a taxi into whitby is a very viable option
I was full of cold witch made my stay not very good but there is no bad review that i could give at all
good location,local pub,lovely walks around ruswarp,close to Whitby,nice breakfast.honestly bar!!!
Location - 5 mins to railway station Lovely walk to Whitby along footpath 5 mins walk to pub Good choice at breakfast Very clean & comfortable bed Large bedroom £6 in taxi from Whitby
Nothing to be negative about!
Spacious rooms (both downstairs and upstairs) Views Huge breakfast Coffee fresh and hot Friendliness of staff
Carpet in room a little bit tired
The location was perfect as we wanted peace and quiet. Nice little village with a lovely scenic footpath along the steam railway line and river into Whitby that took around 25 minutes the guest house itself is a magnificent old building so if your looking for modern then look elsewhere but we loved our stay and we will return !!
Charming old building.View out of the rear facing room; steam trains in the distance, added to the generally old fashioned feel of the place. Proprietor was friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast.
Tiny bit over priced. Can't believe we didn't see a ghost!
Loved the place, staff very nice and breakfast superb. Will be back.
No bath for missus, she's likes a soak not a shower! 17th century house and no ghosts was hoping to see one but bed was so comfortable I'd probably slept and missed it !!
The walk into Whitby nice good location just outside of the town within a taxi ride at night. Room lovely and the breakfast just right for a good days walking
Nothing at all everything was really nice had a lovely time would definitely stay again if in the area
lovely grand historic building with views from room 12 of the garden, steam trains and boats, had a really good nights sleep and the staff were very helpful, breakfast was excellent would stay again
The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Room 11 highly recommend ( family room). The place itself is stunning & deco is so fitting. Food was wonderful & the staff chatty & friendly. Really really enjoyed our stay x
Curtains didn't fit the windows properly, although lovely and clean pillows, duvet and cover had seen better days.
I was so pleased to be staying in the 'family home'. Beds were very comfortable and I appreciated the heater in the room for 'just in case'. The bathroom was clean and comfortable. I did fight with the toilet roll holder - I think it needs something on the end to keep the paper from sliding off... It was a lovely view out our window, and the food was plentiful and there was good hot tea. I enjoyed the chats with A.and C. even though I know I was keeping you from chores ~ it was piecing together the Benson family history. Thanks to you and Diane at St. Mary's, I know a lot more of my family which I will treasure. I'll be sending you what information I can find about the deed and family history after I cure a few crises at home. Would I stay again? Absolutely. Cheers!
the rooms were clean and well presented, the hotel was clean throughout and the common area's were really welcoming. the breakfast is to die for!!
