“We were enchanted by the beautifully maintained gardens and the peacocks. We found the site romantic with its views of hills and the historic interest added greatly. The quality of food in the restaurant impressed us too.”

I first stayed at this hotel 35 years ago and wanted to return because I'd had such a wonderful experience. Of course changes have been made in that time but they have made it even more impressive than it was then. The gardens and interiors are wonderful and the food was fabulous. I hope it won't be as long before I get to stay again.

Lovely old hotel, in beautiful grounds. Good breakfast; cooked costs extra but we felt that there was no need as the choice provided was so varied. There is a lift, but it does not serve every floor.

The architecture was intriguing. The high ceiling was interesting especially in the Library. The lounge with the open fire was very comfortable and relaxing. Our visit was brief but we thoroughly enjoyed it. When the owners have finished their refurbishment it will be magnificent. Room 130 was very close to the kitchen and the service lift, which was rather noisy after 2300 hours and before 0700. Directions to the hotel could be improved, both on the website and in the town.

I have known the castle for many years, its location and grounds are beautiful. The staff were attentive and courteous without being obtrusive. Within the restrictions of a very old building the room was comfortable but tired. The public rooms of the hotel cannot be faulted. The bathroom was very small, the toilet bowl was badly cracked and leaked, albeit clean water. Judging from the dirt in the crack this had been there for some time. The shower cubicle was grubby and the cauIking of the tiles damaged. I reported this to reception and the faults logged into their diary. It will be interesting to know if this is remedied. (Room 220). Bearing in mind that this was an overnight stay only I was not too put out. Had the stay been longer I would have asked to be moved.

I liked the sheer size and ambiance of it. The Castle is very hard to find in the dark. The only signpost we saw for it was as we were entering the castle gate. More signage would have been most useful.

The staff were friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed. The castle and grounds were lovely to walk around. We loved to see the peacock roaming around. The bed was comfy, the food was good and would definitely come again. Thank you for a lovely stay There were some young noisey people that kept us awake between 4&5am...not good...did not like the room down stairs 115 would not stay there again and the first floor down did not smell very nice old and musty...and the decor was very poor and looked dirty and the carpets are thread bear...the last time we stayed the room was upstairs and very much nicer..but we would come again for the above reasons.

Walking in the grounds of the castle. Spooky and exciting but nice. Our bathroom was eqipped with a huge heated towel rail which we could'nt switch off making the bathroom like a sauna and the room a bit too hot for comfort. Room 201. But it was reduced in price and very good value.

Friendly staff, large clean comfortable rooms, well furnished, very nice large bathroom with good quality shower. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, attended the medieval banquet which was excellent. Would recommend this hotel and the banquet which can be attended with or without a hotel stay. We would have preferred an English rather than continental breakfast, although this could be purchased separately, but this is a minor criticism and the continental breakfast was to a good standard.

The grounds and the room was beautiful. Not very disabled friendly. No ramp to the front and the disable entry to the medieval hall was difficult due to the shale stones which were diffict to push the wheelchair through. Also think they should do a tour of the grounds would love to have known where all the passageways went to or what they were used for.

The atmosphere, space and grounds of the hotel are quite special, and I would certainly visit again. The dinner menu in the main restaurant could have been more extensive.

Mainly the comfort within the hotel - food, service and staff were without fault. The surrounding gardens were a delight to be able to wlak around and the town of Ruthin was far from a small Welsh town There were few areas where two or one could sit - more tables, charis were arranged for four and upwards. Oh, and there needs to be more seats within the extensive garden.

As visitors from overseas, we were thrilled to be staying in a genuine castle, with modern luxury. The ambience, the grounds, the staff, the food - all were outstanding! We will recommend it to all our family and friends and believe it was one of the highlights of our holiday. We loved it so much we booked in for a second night!

The grounds were magnificent, food excellent, dining room amazing, very warm and full of history, we are going back in March on a special deal. Would be nice if the bar area had more tables for eating at, or maybe allow this menue to be eaten in the dining room.

The rooms were very generously sized. The bar and casual meals were wonderful at then end of a long day as a tourist. The grounds were lovely and very interesting to wander around. Would definitely go back. The bathroom was very old, wall paper was lifting and water pressure was poor.

The setting and atmosphere As I allready stress at the reception, the room we stayed needs updating it looks like nothing it's been done for a long time and I personally think it needs a little more care and attention, otherwise it is very nice and excelent staff.

I stayed at the hotel for over a month 22 years ago. Since then the hotel has changed little, except there are now significant signs of neglect and decay. Windows and guttering in a very poor almost dangerous state of repair. This is about bookings.com: Since using this website I have been inundated with 'psam' and 'phishing' emails—this is not good. A typical example as follows: "Dear client! Transaction: Credit Card 3538_1 On July 26th, 2011 Hotel made wrong transaction writing-down from your account for an overall amount of $1698. For noncompliance of the service contract this Hotel was divested accreditation in Booking Company. For the return of funds please contact your bank and fill information in the attached form. In the attachment you will find expense sheet with the sum of wrong transaction debiting. As Company is not responsible for money transactions and acts as intermediary you can seize the court directly to return the funds from the Hotel. Thank you for understanding. We trust you can solve this unpleasant problem. Glen Merson, Manager of Reception Desk & Reservation Departament "

Luxurious interior and very interesting historically. Great grounds to walk around and beautiful peacocks walking around. Nice and peaceful. I would love to get married here! You could get some great photographs! I brought my 4 year old and she loved exploring the grounds and looking for the peacock feathers. The locals are lovely, helpful and friendly. I had a 2 night stay and it was enough time to relax and explore locally. Can't really complain about anything much as everything we asked for was met. I would have liked face cloths in the bathroom though. Also the radiator in the bathroom was scorching hot which I found odd on a boiling summers day but it was switched off when we asked (no control for us to do ourselves). All this is just picking though and doesn't spoil your stay.

Nice friendly staff, good location for travelling. Poor level of decoration in the bedroom (wallpaper hanging off, dusty shelves etc) in need of refurbishment. There is nothing in Ruthin town, so be prepared to eat and drink in the hotel, which is very expensive.
