This hotel was the traditional arrangment of large houses joined together, but unlike others of this type I've stayed in, this was a proper hotel with the facilties and efficient staff you'd expect, with free wifi, off-street parking and a decent restaurant. Although the single room I stayed in was small, it was surprisingly neat and modern with a luxury wetroom. Though the room was newly refurbished, the corridors and some of the public areas could do with a bit of a makeover, if only to a more modern colour scheme than cream paintwork and red flock wallpaper. Some details need attention, like a loose toilet roll holder in the room and bedding not tucked in on the side against the wall, and if the fancy computer keyboard linked to the TV isn't working anymore, just take it out. And please no cleaners with vacuum cleaners in the corridors during the breakfast rush! |

Reception staff were fantastic, very welcoming and helpful. Room was decorated beautifully and had all necessary extras. Although lovely, I would not say it was worth the £115 spent for 1 night. |

The general impression was one of being run down. The room was clean but the other community areas were not. In need of refurbishing. |

The Rutland was extremely handy for me,as I was visiting my daughter, who lives in university halls close by. The breakfast was especially good, as it was freshly cooked and the staff were very friendly. I was kept awake with an air conditioner fan the first night, I did get it turned off for the second night, but was cold. I would prefer a duvet, rather than just one blanket. Staff should perhaps explain about the air con on arrival. |

The staff were very helpful and the room was clean and had everything possible for a comfortable stay. It was quiet at night. The hotel is a strange arrangement of rooms, stairs and corridors all garishly decorated.I thought it might have been a care home not very well converted. Although I was in a double room and only booked a single, my room was on the top level and had no real window which I didn't like. |

The staff were friendly apart from one receptionist who was not to willing to help us with not being able to park in the car park. My husband is registered disabled and the distance between the reception area and the room (21) was too far especially with all the stairs. |

staff pleasant and efficient and decor in the room was a little different unfortunately there was a private 60th party booked at the hotel the night we were there which meant we were unable to use the bar or restaurant and the noise from the party kept us awake until 1a.m when it finished. Not impressed!!! |

Silence, very good restaurant, free internet connection, comfortable rooms and bathrooms. For a foreigner that doesn't know the local language and could be a little disoriented some staff person could be not so comprehensive about it. |

Breakfast was very good and the room and facilities matched my needs well. The hotel was nicely located for my purposes (visiting the University). The staff was very helpful. Although other visitors are complaining the stairs and maze-like design of the hotel add an extra note. Since the hotel building itself is quite old and was never planned to house a modern times hotel, some of the later added facilities are in awkward places (e.g. a ventilation system right in front my room's window) or not fitting in as seamlessly as in more modern hotels (the rather noisy air conditioning). But it's bearable and by no means a show stopper. |

The staff were particularly pleasant and helpful. I have to say that prior to going I read soem reviews of TripAdvisor which almost caused me to cancel but as the hotel was the nearest to my son's university (reason for trip) I decided to take a chance and found that the staff who were described unfairly on TripAdvisor as rude and unhelpful to be anything but. Again I found the food to be good. Room 105. The room itself is adequate and clean and the en suite bathroom was excellent, however, the rooms window is right over the ventilation shaft/extractor which makes a racket at night time when trying to sleep - the room lacked adequate double glazing to minimise this noise. Would not want to stay in that room again but would stay at the hotel. |

Convenient for the University and hospitals The decor in the rooms is too 'busy'. Too many different patterns. It does not present a restful picture. Quite old fashioned in the choice of carpets. |

Night porter was alert and friendly on arrival. Breakfast was good and served quickly. Room was stylish and bed was comfortable. TV remote did not function. Room was a little cold. It would have been good to have a shower cap available. |

Yes, we booked an executive suite, which was supposed to have chocolates and a fruit platter, mineral water a seating area and a wet room, we were very disappointed with the room as it had a bath, a toilet that you had to reverse to sit on, a loo roll holder that was hanging off the wall, the shower screen had been mended not very well!!! The air conditioning unit had been fitted and a hole was still visible to the right of it and was not decorated around here afterwards. There was dust along the skirting boards, the top duvet cover was filthy, the cushions on the sofa bed were stained, how much more can I say was wrong with a room? I mentioned the fruit and chocolate platter and this was made up the following morning for our departure... |
