The Sunday breakfast First impression wasn't very good as 2 receptionists taking and we were ignored at first and also because we had booked online that morning the hotel hadn't received our booking and the girl was a bit abrupt "Well when did you book I do not have a booking for you" First impressions always count

Excellent mattress. Excellent private hotel garden. Friendly, professional staff. Wireless Internet is adequate for email and light web browsing. A bit slow for business work in the hotel. But free. Would have appreciated option to purchase faster service for a modest cost. It did work correctly, no problem connecting with a Windows 7 laptop and a Toshiba tablet.

The room quality was excellent, comfortable, with a great bathroom and technology services available. It far exceeded the price charged. It was one of the few hotels available in the location with parking. The reception staff went out of their way in a friendly fashion to resolve queries and issues immediately. Housekeeping was performed in an unobtrusive fashion keeping room use pleasant and functional. Too many stairs to the room with heavy baggage, the window was nailed shut and the room at times was very hot. The room was designed for someone very tall (my feet didn't touch the floor when sitting on the bed or the toilet which is pretty silly). Parking was exceptionally tight particularly when the restaurant was busy. I had to specifically ask for housekeeping at one stage but this was quickly resolved.

This hotel was a real surprise. All the staff were exceptionally friendly, the hotel was beautiful and the location was great. They were in the middle of re-decorating the hallways, so it looked a little scruffy, but the rest of the hotel was perfect. The breakfast was excellent and the bar food was incredible. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone

Reception staff - excellent, warm, friendly Location - great for uni and hospitals and easy to get into town Housekeeping - bad - E.G. soap run out instantly in bath dispenser with no backup (E.G. bar or gel in small bottle); tea bags and biscuits not replaced after first night; only one towel left on second night despite clearly having used two on the first. Reception staff apologised but didn't offer any recompense (I was in Rm 10). Breakfast - avoid the scrambled eggs at all cost!

I found the food surprisingly good. The service was polite and attentive. I thought the breakfast was overpriced. The decor and furnishings were not up to four star. The painting on the stairs in places was even worse than I would do.

Nice bedroom - liked the wet room - and plenty of space - facilities . Bed very comfy. Duck salad nice. Think breakfast is a bit pricy - especially if you only have continental - it makes you have the cooked breakfast to get value for money which is a) unhealthy and b) less sustainable in terms of energy use Rather limited evening meal choice - given that you are not in middle of a restaurant area. - perhaps some more simple and lighter dishes

I wish my university would have afforded me just a slightly higher lodging budget for my conference presentation and participation here in Sheffield for the week. Although I enjoy helping save money for my university, the University of Sheffield conference dormitory housing is actually quite over priced for its minimal offerings (while also more remote in location) when compared to the Rutland. Thanks for a great stay! If in the future I return to Sheffield (which is very possible), I will definitely book with you at the Rutland Hotel.

Friendly efficient service. Good location for the purpose of my travelling to Sheffield every 6-8 weeks. Rather dark decoration throughout. Bathrooms sometimes small and badly set out following refurbishment. It would be helpful to have flexible shower hoses - hair washing!

The Rutland Hotel is excellently situated for visiting the city centre and the University of Sheffield. Although the hotel has an urban location it has a rural feel to it. There is plenty of car parking, which is a bonus in Sheffield. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms/shower rooms are modern. The restaurant is attractive and has a pleasant outlook over the pretty gardens. Breakfast is plentiful and caters for all requirements - staff know how to make a decent cup of tea. Staff in reception and the restaurant are polite and helpful.

We were very impressed by the helpful staff who were able to accomodate us despite a problem with the Booking .com reservation. The bar and restaurant were excellent and the location was perfect, enabling us to walk to our son's graduation ceremony. Parking is a little restricted.

The hotel is attractive - especially the bar and restaurant, in conservatories - and the staff are charming: nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent. It would be nice if there was beer on pump rather than tap. The entertainment is a package (£12.95 all in) which I felt was too much as I only listen to the radio.
