This charming, traditional family-run hotel is situated in one of the most picturesque parts of Northumberland, in the small town of Wooler, known as the Gateway to the Cheviot Hills.

The convenient location makes the Ryecroft Hotel a great base for walkers or for those exploring the region for leisure. With just 9 rooms, the hotel offers friendly, attentive, personalised service, a warm welcome and a relaxed, informal atmosphere. All of the individually furnished rooms are en suite and equipped with colour TVs, hairdryers, telephones and tea/coffee making facilities.

The hotel is renowned for its excellent home-cooked food and wide range of fine ales. The restaurant and bar are popular with locals and guests alike, offering visitors an authentic taste of rural Northumberland.

Enjoy a drink or a meal in the cosy bar, with its real log fire, or in the light, airy conservatory, with beautiful views of the hills all around.

The Lindisfarne Restaurant is open to the public, as well as hotel guests, throughout the week. The restaurant offers fine home-cooked food, made using fresh, locally sourced produce wherever possible. Guests can also choose from an excellent range of local real ales and a wide selection of fine wines to complement their meals.

Guests can also dine in the bar or in The Ryecroft Conservatory, where they can choose from the same menu and enjoy the beautiful views of the hills all around. This is also a perfect place to meet and mix with other guests whilst enjoying a drink or a meal.

The charming, traditional bar is also popular with locals as well as with residents. The bar offers a wide range of beers and spirits, as well as a friendly, relaxed and informal ambience that perfectly encapsulates the hotel’s atmosphere.

All of the rooms are comfortable, clean and kept to the highest standard. All rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped, with all the comforts and facilities you need in a restful, relaxing base. Great pride is taken in the comfort and cleanliness of each of the rooms.

Area information

There is plenty to see and do in the area surrounding the hotel, including golfing, fishing, walking in the Cheviot hills, and shopping in the local market towns of Alnwick and Berwick on Tweed.

The hotel is conveniently located for those wishing to explore the Northumberland National Park, which includes the Cheviot Hills, Happy Valley and College Valley. In addition, Holy Island, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh Beach and the Farne Islands are all within easy reach.

Also just a short drive away is Chillingham, where you can see England's only rare breed of wild white cattle.

As Wooler is situated on the English-Scottish border, the Ryecroft Hotel not only makes a great base for exploring the magic of Northumberland, but also offers the opportunity to border hop for a taste of Scotland.

Very nice, friendly hotel in a good location. Food was excellent.

The only thing wrong was that the shower didn't work very well, however there was plenty of hot water to have a bath.

Room very noisy at bedtime due to location at top of stairs and above
main entrance. From 5am we were woken due to heavy goods vehicles using
the road outside. We also found the bed to be very uncomfortable and
could feel the springs in the mattress.

The staff where extremly friendly and helpful, the rooms were a very nice suprise

The direction to the hotel were not very usful and the top bit of the bed was a wee bit dangerous - it fell off because it wasn't attached

Friendly, helpful staff. Bar and resteraunt good - used by many locals whilst we were there. One of the few hotels we could find which accepted one night bookings at the weekend. Bed was very comfy, and lots of cushions and pillows.

The bedroom was a little cold despite heating, and the bathroom was colder! The basin was also cracked and both taps said 'cold' on them, although one was hot.

Food was good (Breakfast portion was limited)

Bed was ancient unsupportive and smaller than average double. Shower was uncontrollable either cold or very hot. TV was tiny and not even the the 5 terrestrial channels were available. Inadequate secondary glazing. Bathroom toiletries woeful. Bad value all round, cost more per night than top notch business hotel.
