Top attic room, I,m 6" 4' tall, the whole stay walked, sorry stooped to avoid the slanting rooves, even when getting out of a poorly positioned bed, then had to negotiate a more than idea spiral staircase to use the bathroom or leave the room. Sorry the price was over the top, would not recommend and to crown it all, travelled for nearly 24 hours, without sleep..got into bed and the church bells rang for an eternity...they must have forgotten to add that to the facts.....trouble was they we less than 60 yards away.......em ....left a lot to be desired at our ages 60+....felt a night in a tent would have been cheaper and more relaxing...sorry didnt work for us

All pretty much as expected. The sign in the bathroom informing us we would be liable for any breakages, the broken hook on the bathroom door, the non working telephone, the extra towels hidden in the wardrobe and the lack of BBC channels on the T.V.! (It's the only hotel in town basically!!).

Staff were very friendly and helpful Food was good and waiter was efficient and pleasantly chatty. Our room was clean and, given the age of the building, in good decorative order. The Hotel has great character and lots of charm Location was central for visiting this lovely historic town. Our 2nd floor room was on the main street side of the building and there was a lot of noise from traffic during the early hours. ven though it's a Grade 2 listed building, perhaps some better sould insulation could be installed. Our son was in the room next door but beds were sited differently and he had no problem sleeping.

The location, the staff Only one candle supplied during blackout. Decor tired and tasteless. Heating in our room and the bathroom not working even after the blackout ended, or the next morning. Breakfast not included in price, and only one option offered - full english at £10.00

friendly staff Steep stairs and various single and double steps up and down to the room - unavoidable I guess due to the age of the hotel.

Old pub setting style of hotel. All the facilities of a bigger hotel. Nice & relaxing atmosphere & decor. Good size bed & bathrooms. Near to all local facilities. Good for cost in comparison with many others. Very limited parking so most likely need to park off site. Restaurant food good but a bit expensive.

I thought it was a lovely friendly, quirky little place. The staff were lovely, the food excellent. The fact that you only get a couple of small milks in rooms. Not enough to make even one cup of tea. Small point but one that annoys me with every hotel. I know its ok to ask for more but didnt like to bother.

It's old "olde worlde" charm, from the bar to the dining room to our bedroom, with exposed beams, etc; a very pleasant place to stay and we would certainly return if the opportunity arises. I met Cliff and Val during my stay - we were in Saffron Walden for a civic event - and found them to be very pleasant and helpful. The draught Greene King IPA in the bar was very good, too !! If something could be done about car parking, it would add greatly to the attraction of the hotel.

A good central location with friendly staff. That breakfast wasn't included in the price (on this site), so will watch out for the small print in future. It made the room £79 - £10 extra. I could taste the margin.

Quiet, comfortable, with very friendly and eficient staff. It was ideally situated for us, as we spent the weekend at the Duxford Flying Legends airshow. The hotel is ten miles / 15 minutes from the airfield. Saffron Walden is a lovely place to visit. Now we've sampled this hotel we will come back again.
