Location to eurotunnel In the past probably a very grand hotel but standards appear to have plummeted! Our room was dirty, the carpet was full of hair, the television was ancient and had very poor reception. The `bed head` was akin to the Turin Shroud, except these marks clearly indicated where many greasy heads had been. There was inventive plumbing, the overflow from the toilet cistern runing into the shower tray.In places the curtains were falling off the rails and most of the lamp shades were dirty and stained, the only positive suggestion I could make for this place is to demolish and start again, now that I have stopped itching.

The hotel is ideally situated on The Leas at Folkestone within a short walk to the town centre or the sea. The staff are friendly, helpful and doing their best. The breakfast is nice. The late-deal price we got through booking.com meant it provided very good value for a one-night last-minute stay. The bedroom and bathroom were basic, but clean and functional. The hotel is a huge old Victorian building and needs tens of thousands spent on decorating inside and out, refurnishing and refurbishing. In the current economic climate I cannot see this being done owing to the time it would take to recoup the investment. Therefore, you might speculate that it is on a downward spiral from it's former greatness. However, do take into account my more postive comments, especially those concerning the staff, and if you can get a bargain price it is fine for a night or two. I don't think it is the place for a week's family holiday. My recommendation has to be on the basis of £35 for a double room including breakfast. At the full rate (even in the low season) I could not recommend it.

The location was excellent for the sea and the town. The hotel served its purpose of providing a good bed for the night and a breakfast in the morning.

Very cheap, quiet, clean and nice view, co ordinating colours Bed was soft and squeaky, the slightest movement made a lot of noise and the bathroom door was a sliding door so you could hear every sound in the bedroom. The curtains had no lining so the light came through in the morning.

The breakfast State of the room, Noise of neighbours through "paper thin" walls, cracked washbasin, lumpy bed which moved on its own because it was on wheels, draughty window due to all catches being broken. Ended up leaving this disaster a day early to cut our losses

I know some reviews have said that the facilities are outdated and there are problems with the room but for the price I thought it was quite good. I did only spend only 1 of the 2 nights I booked due to refurbishment works (I was moved down the road to the Carlton Hotel which was smaller but quite good as well). While the tv didn't work the room was large and best of all it had a bath which after travelling for 4 months was welcome. Very good staff although I can't tell you what the free included breakfast was like as I missed that. I can tell you that the one at the Carlton was very good so I'd expect similar. The mattresses were a little old and the bath towels were a little frayed at the esges but apart from that it was good.

Beautiful original features, spacious room. Elderly, uncomfortable bedroom furniture, noisy bathroom extractor fan, bedroom floor only superficially cleaned, poor quality food and tea.

The staff were all very friendly and the english breakfast which was included in the price was lovely. The room was very spacious although very outdated. The beach and shops were only about a five or ten minute walk away. Overall a lovely atmosphere. Our room was very dusty so i went round with a baby wipe cleaning it up and the carpet looked like it hadnt seen a Hoover in ages. The shower had broken tiles in it.

Breakfast excellent, Beds comfy, good location, good views, bar good atmosphere. OK for weekend. Parking difficult. Steps up to reception area, not disabled friendly although has lift in hotel. TV only 4 channels, some carpets dirty, all are tired, needs refurbishment, shower had black mould around tap fittings. Wash hand basin too small to wash face.

Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room and a lift. Great full English breakfast! :-) Parking was a little bit of a problem as I had lots of luggage and a three- year old in tow. I needed to park about 3 or 4 minutes' walk away from the hotel.

Lovely Reception friendly, I came a day late after informing the agency....The Hotel rang me on the new arrival day to see if I was still comming ...[ Hotel not informed ] ....On arrival my card was reimburst for the missed day. The Hotel was once a grand place but has fallen below its grandure. The room was tidy but worn, the bathroom sliding door was only hanging by the top but safe. The bar has no ice but the drinks are a comendable price,Having said that Breakfast was above average and the staff were in good humer. We felt comfortable straight away....If you are looking for a budget week end its very good value

Hotel appearance a little shabby and dated but room clean, bed comfortable, staff friendly and nice full English breakfast. So what more could you ask for if you just want somewhere to lay your head? We used the Salisbury as attending a wedding at a nearby hotel where one of the guests had paid nearly double that we did for a single room (no breakfast) which she got a refund on as room was so small with polyfiller in the bath!
