My room was right next to the main entrance in the doromitory block and very noisey
Extremely clean room and bathroom, tastefully decorated room. Availability of onsite restaurant. Excellent continental breakfast. Lovely views.
Room above had insufficient noise insulation so we heard them walking around which woke us up. This could easily be dealt with if you contact your local authority building control officer.
Resteraunt food was excellent and the staff were so polite and helpful. The views having breakfast were amazing. You really must stay here.
The first night we stayed there were only 9 other bookings. We were the only people in the restaurant. Dinner was lovely and I can honestly say they had the best chips I have ever had! The bed was comfy, the bedding was crisp and white and the towels we big and fluffy. Breakfast on the first was great, lots of choice and all freshly cooked. Complimentary too at the weekend too! The Estate was lovely and the views even on a rainy day were great!
The rooms in the temporary accommodation blocks were small and not very well soundproofed. You could hear lots of what was going on next door. Breakfast on the second day wasn't so good for some reason.
Wc. Failed to flush, reported but not corrected which made our stay unpleasant. Room very hot as radiator thermostat as not in working order.wobbly door lock and handle on room.
Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff
Problems getting a taxi
Noise from other guests
The whole surroundings and ambiance of Salomons made for a very relaxing and comfortable stay. Would certainly recommend to friends. We also had an issue with the lock on the door of our room which was sorted with speed and efficiency.
felt disappointed that when booking it wasn't mentioned that the room wasn't actually in the main hotel
Everything except - see dislikes
We slept poorly due two things Salomons have no control over: - the Gatwick flight path (air traffic overhead up to 2 am, restarting 5 am!) - the duvets were winter TOG but we had a very warm start to October. Perhaps they had already gone over to winter bedding.
Fantastic location as you think you're in the country but you're 10 minutes from the town centre. Lovely accommodation with really comfortable beds. The food was excellent and reasonably priced.
The walk up the steep hill to the accommodation but can live with that because of the fantastic location
bar staff particularly good
design of bedroom blocks given the rural period setting
Room (Even if the outside looked odd!) Room service
Bar closing early Breakfast slow, had to wait for food to be topped up
Friendly, helpful, couldn't ask for anything else. Will come again.
In the Canterbury building, the room No.9 is to near the entrance door, so if you get late revelers who do not know how to open the main door the arguments and discussion would tend to wake one up. Apart from that it was lovely to stay, many thanks.
The buildings and estate we wonderful. There is an interesting museum and the science theatre is well worth a look. The room was clean and well appointed. The reception staff were friendly and efficient.
The room got unbearably hot, such that we couldn't sleep after we woke up at 2.00 a.m. due the heat. Opening the windows made little difference. The buffet continental breakfast would have been OK if we hadn't to keep having to ask the staff to top up the items, such as bread, croissants, even though they could see that this needed doing There was no marmalade just jams. You made you own tea in nice teapots, but there were no jugs to take milk for the tea back to the table. Just little things but they all add up. All in all disappointing for such a beautiful location.
The food in the Bistro The service The staff The location The grounds The bed - BIG and very comfortable
Having to pay an additional £5 for a full English breakfast which I was not aware of when I booked but the Continental breakfast was fine.
Looked the quality and detailed historical interest of the family that once owned and lived there. Plenty of photo opportunities. Inclusive breakfast was OK, cereal, toast, fruit, tea or coffee. (Cooked breakfast is extra!) The welcome from Vicki Melhuish was very good as she is very informative about the venue and location. Pity she spoilt it next morning though, see below.
I did not appreciate being informed by Vicki Melhuish next morning on checking out that I had not settled my bill, this in front of other guests. This of course was totally untrue as I had paid her the night before and produced the receipt that she had given me complete with the Wi-Fi code that she had written on the reverse. She did apologise immediately but was confused as to why "the computer said the account was outstanding". I suspect she had forgotten to input the transaction at the time of payment as the card copy receipt is separate from that of the computer.
Excellent stay Staff really nice Loved the old parts of building Manager brilliant let us have a good look around, theatre and folly Accommodation was good, not in old part of building But overall will definatly stay again
The scenery was absolutely splendid, the facilies quite intriguing and lots to do on the estate itself. A real gem in the middle of the Kentish countryside.
Good staff- very attentive- room spotless
Small room stuck uphill in an annexe
the building, the cleanliness, the stunning surrounding grounds, the quality of the breakfast area and food, the welcoming staff at midnight...... 6 very satisfied adults. Would book again for a longer weekend break.
Noisy guests in room above moving around.
The lodgings were very noisy, floorboards creaked, and voices from other guests could be overheard.
The breakfast was lovely.
The room was awful...small,smelly,noisy when drunk wedding guests went back to their rooms. Nothing luxurious or hotel-like about it. In the back of beyond.
