The breakfast was lovely.
The room was awful...small,smelly,noisy when drunk wedding guests went back to their rooms. Nothing luxurious or hotel-like about it. In the back of beyond.
Beautiful grounds, accommodation somewhat minimalistic but very comfortable.
Work in progress. Plans for major enlargement and plans to build 5* hotel and Father Christmas world. Seem to be taking over the whole area. Which to my mind will spoil it.
History of the Estate Location Grounds Friendly staff Comfortable accommodation Good breakfast with decent coffee
Good staff. Excellent restaurant Stately home estate,
No bottled beer
Good location. Beautiful grounds and lots of free parking available. Good venue for weddings etc.
Rooms can get quite humid in summer - no aircon. Including a fan with the room would be a big bonus. Continental breakfast was limited and underwhelming. For the price a full English breakfast should be included.
We had a lovely meal in the Bistro. All the staff were helpful and could answer questions about the house.
Noisy corridors in the accommodation block.
Room and bathroom ..lovely. Views and grounds... lovely. Food ....good. Staff...very good. Liked the "buggy" service up to the rooms....essential.
Rooms too hot,not enough ventilation. Almost tropical ! Local roads ...awful.
The setting, the grounds are lovely, the view from the terrace (with a drink in hand) is amazing.
The accommodation is separate from the main hotel where the restaurant and bar is, and although a short distance, it's quite a steep walk back uphill to the accommodation.
The setting, the house was beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful.
A splendid old house with very interesting history and features and strange goings on in he woods. Very helpful staff and reception. Nicely appointed and newly refurbished bedrooms. Lovely views over gardens and woods from spacious terraces. Many opportunities to beakfast or dine in the spacious ex-conservatory. Tall gin and tonics from the bar while pondering the menu. Very efficient transport by golf cart up and down the steep hill to the guest room blocks - for a mature bloke like me with an arthritic ankle this was an essential facility.
The separation of the main house from the accommodation buildings is a nuisance, although no problem for younger people I suppose. The golf cart solves the problem quite well unless its been raining! The dinner menu was rather limited but generally quite good. A training course taking place in the same week provided some amusement but members clonking up the stairs kept one awake at times. The water went cold frequently and had to be sorted out by plumbers but the fix never held permanently. A wedding and a private function put the conservatory out of bounds on a couple of occasions. Light levels in the Victorian parts of the house were very poor in the evenings.
Quiet and classy, very relaxing and just a short drive from Gatwick
The building, it's history and the location.
Although I didn't dine there, I did eat breakfast, and the breakfast facilities, whilst OK, do not do justice to the other excellent attributes of Salomons.
Great welcome, very competent staff. Lovely and interesting estate with high historical value.
The location and the clean well maintained buildings both inside and outside. The staff were very pleasant and efficient without being overbearing. A very relaxing feel with the whole building and grounds.
Bedrooms could be a bit noisy when other guests moved in their room.
no swimming pool in my room. x
Atmosphere, décor, comfort
Location, good facilities for price paid, food.
Location slightly remote, access is down narrow lanes, quality of bar/restaurant staff poor - greater experience required.
Great location with excellent grounds and some really interesting history. Rooms, though in a rather student-like accommodation block, were well equipped.
The student-like accommodation block, plus the breakfast was very uninspiring.
The character and history of the building. The accommodation was good as the buildings that house the rooms have recently been refurbished and were very comfortable.
The estate is not close to any other restaurants or bars in walking distance. The management may regret not using splasbacks or tiling in the bathrooms as you do get a lot of water splashes from the sink onto the walls which in time will start to stain and proberbly ruin the paintwork.
Beautiful grounds, interesting (museum, theatre), food good, staff good. Food was slow to arrive but we were offered a complimentary drink to compensate which was a nice touch.
Initially dismayed by exterior appearance of rooming blocks which looked like university halls of residence. Distance from restaurant would be a problem in winter. Windows did not appear to be double glazed and there was aircraft noise.

sound proofing of accommodation not great.
The main house and the grounds.
Being under the flight path to Gatwick.
Cannot understand why this place has a 4* rating for what ? It offers nothing unless you would like a conference room to hire it offers nothing as a hotel not even a games room\lounge. Bedrooms are a walk away in a block dated from the 60's and once used as student digs £90 for this ! Is outrageous the only nice thing was the politeness of the boys serving. We couldn't sit at the bar as this was also hired out ..... Def won't be returning. I fact we wanted to turn back as soon as we arrived but was told we would sill be charged !!
I thought the venue, food and all staff were excellent. Beautiful peaceful setting. The reception staff were great and very informative.
I was disappointed with the position of the rooms and found it very noisy when people were coming in/out of the accommodation.
Our stay with the hotel was lovely.
