Excellent,
Score from 29 reviews
In a sleepy hamlet, this thatched farmhouse is only 5 minutes from highway A38 (Cornwall) and A380 (Torquay) and therefore within easy reach of Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth. Older than Shakespeare and set in its own grounds, Sampson’s provides a welcome change from the usual anonymous motels, and corporate guests always appreciate the difference. Owned by the Bell family for over 35 years, Sampson’s provides the perfect retreat in which to relax and unwind, with inglenook fireplaces and log fires in the winter. Breakfast is served in the farmhouse dining room. Free range hens provide the eggs, and the choice of cereals, fresh fruit salad, full English cooked breakfast, toast and homemade marmalade should send you off ready for anything. Meandering through the meadows, the Teign River makes a beautiful setting for walks just down the lane. Guests can also enjoy scenic, easy river walks along the Teign while at Sampson's. The relaxed nature of the Hotel. Friendly, personable staff. Excellent evening meal. I would have like a more upto date en suite facility. The room facilities could also be a bit more upto date.

Very warm welcome. Made to feel at home. Room and other area's very clean, no mean feat for a 1640's built farmhouse. If you want a quiet, relaxing hotel with good food this is the place for you. Many thanks to Nigel and his staff. Well done!

Quick service, helpful staff and nice food. The price of the room seemed extreme for what you get, the staff failed to notify at the start of the stay that the breakfast was an additional cost, we didnt mind paying but it did annoy us that they assumed we knew.

Lonely life driving around uk. It is wonderful to find a place to stay with comfortable chairs, log fire, cream teas, walks by river and farm lands (with hills in view), good food and best of all very pleasant staff.Chickens came up trumps.......boiled eggs for breakfast! Thanks for looking after me, see you with family next time. Guy.

Everything from the staff who were sooo friendly and helpful, yet still professional to the hotel accommodation, Everything was superb. Nothing was too much trouble. My husband retired on the day we went to Sampsons, hence the reason for the stay. He had been given a bottle of champagne and we had made a very makeshift wine cooler out of a bag of ice. We went to dinner and when we returned to our room, the bag had been replaced by a wine cooler and our plastic glasses by glass. They had also put a large candle on our balcony and left a card for my husband. Perfect. The food was superb, well cooked, presented and served and the room was clean, fresh and comnfortable. As you can guess we were totally thrilled with the weekend and wil return as soon as possible and have already recommended it to several friends.

The location is good and the staff are efficient and very friendly. Food is good. Food and particularly drink is very expensive. Breakfast price is not shown and was £10.50 each. The room was basic and too small for a double bed. This is a 1 or 2 star hotel and £89.00 for a basic courtyard room without breakfast is excessive. The owner told me that direct bookings included breakfast but not if booked through an agent. We were put in a basic, small courtyard room and not in the thatched farmhouse.

A lovely relaxed atmosphere and setting and the food in the restaurant was superb! We had what they call the penthouse apartment, so had plenty of space and fantastic views but think some of the other rooms may be a bit small. The location was excellent for us as the orchid nursery we'd come to visit was nearby. And it was lovely to have a real Devon cream tea in the courtyard and talk to local dog walkers who'd stopped off for coffee. Quite expensive as breakfast wasn't included and cost £42 for two nights for two of us but I'd only had tea and toast the first morning.

I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly welcome from the staff. Everyone were very helpful and informative. The room I stayed in was comfortable. The manager Mr Nigel Bell and his staff made me feel at home. Nigel could get a new Fax Machine ( Ha Ha)

Rustige ligging, de unieke verbouwing van het oude gebouw en de vriendelijkheid van de mensen. Je kon er 's avonds gaan dineren, maar de prijzen waren daarvoor nogal hoog.
