excellent real food
Good location, excellent restaurant, wonderful, spacious suite with harbor views. Very quiet and clean, too. Easy to get to the most important sites in Orkney and close to our ferry. The only thing we didn't like was leaving.
Quite small double bed, but we managed.
Really everything, location great. Food was good but the same menu for the 5 days we were there which was disappointing.
The bed was comfortable but the cover was far too warm.
fact that we had siting room and bedrooms within a suite
not serious = but too far from Kirkwall. I suppose what I mean is that it wasn't central enough on the main island. On the other hand, location suited the Gills Bay ferry and Scapa Flow
Cannot fault this hotel the food was wonderful the place was very clean
We stayed only one night but the room was really cute and comfortable and the food was good!
Nice location with good food and friendly local staff.
Being cut off from Kirkwall and main island by severe storms.
Good food, friendly staff, comfortable rooms.
Don't be fooled by the very plain façade of this hotel, it is a lovely place to stay. Welcoming owners, very comfortable rooms, lovely restaurant with excellent food. Highly recommended.
Location food and friendliness.
Nothing at all
Stylish room and comfortable bed. Excellent sea view at no extra cost.
Nothing not to like.
Good menu, great food
Location, outlook, food, tranquillity
Not a lot not to like
We had the suite it was very convenient for our stay staff were helpful everywhere was clean
I liked the ease of parking and the location on an island reached by driving across the famous Churchill barrages. It is close to everything but feels remote. Opposite a small working pier you can watch the fishermen unloading. The sunsets were spectacular across the water.
Nothing. All was great
There are not many places to eat in this part of Orkney, but Sands has a good, if not spectacular, restaurant. Orkney is a wonderful place to visit and Sands a hotel is a pleasant and convenient base. The owners of the Sands are friendly and informal, as are most of the people we encountered in Orkney. We will return to this unique part of the world.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and extremely comfortable. I would stay there again anytime.
Sands same as my name and very quiet
No brush to clean toilet and shower fill with water and very slippery no mat
Highly recommend the Sands Hotel.
The large suite was perfect for our family of five. It had a double bed, twin beds and the management brought in a chair bed. It also had a kitchenette and table and chairs. The facility was clean and nicely decorated. The meals in the restaurant were delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient.
It was not clear to me from the website that the suite could accommodate a family of five, so we had initially booked another room.
Family run everyone very friendly . Nothing was too much trouble. Stunning location.
everything at this hotel was excellent. It was absolutely spotless and the rooms lovely. The food was excellent as well.
Sometimes the seagulls woke you up but there is nothing you can do about that.
Very good location - quiet and overlooking an arm of Scapa Flow. While it was south of Kirkwall and so a bit of a way from the main archaeological sites, the distances were still quite reasonable. The staff were most pleasant and obliging and the meals were genrally excellent
Nothing to criticise at all
Everything. Helpful hosts, very comfortable room with terrific view and very good food.
