The location of this hotel is the only thing I can say that is positive unfortunately!
Generally the hotel didn't impress us, the room standard, other than the fact that the room overlooked the sea, wasn't anything special, it was quite tatty in fact. The swimming pool needs some TLC and it wouldn't hurt for someone to just scoop the flies out at the end of each day! Our dining experience was the most disappointing, the hotel is trying to serve a la carte standard food (which was very average), but unfortunately the service was far from a la carte standard. The staff were unattentive, and unaware of details of the menu, and considering the price they were asking, it was pretty appalling! Such a shame, as we were looking forwards to an enjoyable night away with our children and too be honest, I was pleased to drive away from the place.
Views - beautiful. Food - given the location and two pre-schoolers, we were trapped for the evening - however the food was perfectly fine. Breakfast was actually really good!
The smell. The carpets throughout had an odour similar to sweaty feet. We had a basic room at the back by the bins and the kitchen, so could tune in to the catering staff late at night having a smoking break. The pool was horrid - claimed to be indoor, it had a retractable dome which dripped condensation on you as you braced yourself to get into the cold water. Even the new sauna had mold - everything was just cheap and a little bit nasty. Sandy Cove, you have great potential with that location - invest in the property.

Bedroom very noisy, walls too thin, squeaky floorboards. Corridors so narrow you could not easily pass someone going opposite way.
I loved our room, it's was very spacious, bathroom was lovely and our view was amazing. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. Breakfast was lovely and more then enough choices. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
The spa facilities could do with an update and the swimming pool was pretty cold and a little dirty.
Once we were upgraded to a superior room with a view, wow - what a transformation from the standard suite. The room was well furnished, tastefully decorated, had a decent TV and kettle that worked and the view was just fantastic. Pool size was excellent and sauna and steam room were nice. Nice bar and dining room, refurb has been done to a good standard. I would recommend staying here but avoid the cheap rooms at all cost.
Arrived very excited to the beautiful location of the sandy cove hotel, checked in and was slightly alarmed that they wanted me to pay upfront for my stay - this isnt something that im familiar with doing and instantly made me concerned that there must be a reason for this. When we checked into our room we were thoroughly dissapointed, the family room was a dark and dreary, outdated room on the 1st floor at the rear of the hotel, ripped wallpaper, stains up the walls, mould round the bathroom, coffee cups that didnt match. The outside decking hadnt been cleaned and the garden furniture was strewn around the deck from the last occupants. The metal window catch from the bathroom window was also broken and laid on the decking. The TV in the room was probably from pre 1999 and the remote didnt work for freeview.... then to top it all off, tried to boil the kettle and the kettle was broken, so had to call room service for a replacement - oh wait, the phone was dead (you will all be thinking im joking, but im not)... so had to walk back down to reception to complain... this all happened within our first 30 minutes of arrival, to a family break we were so excited about - needless to say we were upset. Spoke to management who arranged a 'Slightly' discounted upgrade for the remaining 2 nights of our stay. The hotel pool is meant to have a gate-code on it but the lock was broken allowing anyone to walk into the facility, the pool needs a revamp, paint was flaky and mouldy and the glass around the pool needs a clean. Breakfast staff were a bit hit and miss, some attentive and others who sit you for breakfast and allow you to go and get your own coffee.

no ambience, no atmosphere, hotel is clearly in transition. not value for money. it is was not for the location this hotel would struggle and they offer very little else.

The website is misleading. Our room had mould growing all over the shower curtain, and someone else's toothpaste marks in bathroom. Bed was very uncomfortable, and bits of broken furniture lying around the bedroom. Bedroom had no internal lock on door, it was just broken and left. Duvet's would 'fall out' of the duvet covers because the covers no longer had buttons on them they were so old. Stains all over bedroom carpets. Pealing wall paper throughout. Tv that did not work properly. Restaurant expensive.

The view, the location, are truly outstanding. The building itself is also quite interesting.
A surprising mismanagement of our booking request for an extra bed and/or a cot. On a more general stance, the staff seems mismanaged, and sticks to somewhat absurd guidelines of conduct, contrary to customer-driven service. True for the restaurant also, where the wine service person, for example, will boastfully announce he doesn't know anything about the food menu.
Booked family room but arrived to find it wasn't available - they offered my 7 year old a room completely separate to us. Totally unacceptable to assume a child can be left alone in a hotel. Food very average

We loved the location and the view from the room was stunning. The restaurant is modest prices and good food. Breakfast was good.
We felt our room was a bit expensive for what it offered. We stayed in the most expensive room with a balcony, we expected luxury but there were chips in paintwork, stained pillow cases, and the complimentary toiletries only offered shower gel/cap. We are aware it is only 3 Star, so unless they are going to change their price tariff to indicate this the luxury room, should Indicate it is actually a luxury.

Rude staff No welcome Had to drag hags through restaurant in front of diners with staff looking on a tutting rather than offering help. One waiter (ponytail) was so rude, made us want to leave half way through first breakfast. We were made to feel so uncomfortable. Hotel is run to suit staff, very unaccommodating especially about food early evening. Explained this on checking out and lady acknowledged my comments that staff need lots of training and there is potential for some staff to become very good but they are hampered by negative rude vibe of others. No apology, I was gobsmacked. Ruined our holiday will never return, shame because the place was clean and in beautiful setting.

Not well signposted from the road.
The vibes from our room and the terrace at the front of the hotel were stunning. You can also descend to a wonderful beach called Broadsands, via an 800m path and about 200 steep steps. Portions and quality on the bar menu are good. We didn't try the restaurant. Staff were friendly and polite.
We could have done with more bar food accommodation when it rained and maybe not to have had to pay for pool table. These were fairly minor niggles. Had to wait for sauna to heat up, but that was hardly a trial.
The seaview and the location close to nice beaches and Exmoor. There were a few really nice young staff who were friendly and helpful. Not all of the breakfast waiters were as attentive though....
Totally overpriced for what it was. Room was named "superior", yet it was just a basic room, nothing superior about it except the high price. There was a wedding at the venue and loud music was played until midnight which made it impossible to enjoy the calm sea breeze and view as it didn't really go together with the super loud music. It could have been nice if guests were told about this when booking. The breakfast that was ordered from the kitchen was okay, yet the things that were available and displayed at the table was messily displayed and options were bad. Some cereal and only one type of bread. No drinking water available unless asked separately from the staff. The hotel is old and shabby, yet quaint in its own way I guess. The problem is that the rooms are priced as if it was a newly renovated 4-star hotel with amazing breakfast and service, which it isn't. If I would have paid half the price of what I paid, I would have nothing to complain really. The price just did not match the quality at all. This hotel either needs to drop the price or top up it's game. At the moment it is a total rip off, though it would have potential to be amazing.
