Sandygate Hotel  

The food was great and pleasant atmosphere.the staff were really friendly.

We was told upon arrival that due to us been residents we would be entitled to 20% off all food and 50p of each drink.this was never granted.when I questioned them about it Saturday the manager said I would get a call Monday 29th October to rectify this.but it's now Wednesday and I've still had no contact or an attempt to refund or explain to what happened.

the fact that they still gave us a room even though they never received the booking from www.booking .com and didn,t charge us their normal rate

the room we had was at the front and the noise of the road kept us awake all night

My room was very impressive. Staff were friendly and helpful. Owner is helpful and attentive nothing is too much trouble, very friendly bloke. Close to amenities. Real ale!

Some downstairs areas needed a bit more of a thorough clean, not dirty but not gleaming.

Its clear that the hotel is in a state of flux with the new owners. Despite there being a mix-up with the internet booking (it had been sent to the previous owners) this was immediately sorted and a room provided. Value for money I think it is quite reasonable - you cannot expect a lot for the room price.

The plumbing arrangements were interesting. The shower has no method of controlling the water temperature that I could fathom out. Fortunately I am not unused to lukewarm showers.

There was quite a lot of traffic noise ( no double glazing) On Saturday evening there was a wedding party and the music was so loud that it made the floor of our room vibrate. We asked to have another room further away from the noise, which we were given. The staff were not very professional. There was no real communication between them e.g. we were asked 3 times by 3 different people what we wanted for breakfast on the 2 mornings we were there and, on the second morning, we were told by one person that there was no food left and that somebody had been sent to the supermarket to buy some.

Recovering well after last proprioter did a moonlight our room was missing tv remote batteries and leads to connect tv to freeveiw so no in room tv,

Room had no shower found it very difficult getting in and out of waisted type bath

This was the first time that we stayed at this hotel. The staff and owner were friendly without being overbearing and it seemed like a well run hotel as a team. The room was lovely and warm, plenty of hot water and fresh milk available with tea and coffee in the bedroom. So much nicer than those awful sachets of long life milk! The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and was delicious. We are going back! Julie. Oxfordshire

Reasonable value for money.

Roadside room rather noisy due to traffic. Arrived back at hotel just after midnight to find we were locked out! Did manage to wake someone who then let us in.

When I arrived at the Sandygate Hotel there was no booking for me. As it was my nephews wedding he had caleed at the hotel and asked them to save me a room. According to the hotel Booking.com had not passed my booking across and it was pure luck I got the last room. The staff were helpful and pleasant even during the extremely busy wedding reception I was attending. They showed me to my room and made me feel welcome

We were not told the time of breakfast which finished at 9am - on a sunday.- We didn't get any. Also because my booking was not there I had to pay an extra £10.00. Whose fault is this. Booking.com or the Sandygate Hotel????? - Very Disapointed in both,

Convenient for visiting friends in Wath. Central for the town.

Check in was advertised as 2pm & although we arrived after that we still had to wait 30 mins before our room was ready. Television in room was very old & did not work. Toilet in ensuite did not flush very well. Our room was next to a busy road which was noisy all night. Hotel looked as though it needed some LTC. Believe it is in process of changing ownership.

Breakfast should have been included in the price ... limited disables facility s a lift would have been helpful ..... no grab rails in bathroom for disabled or older people ... beds should have been changed during our weeks stay .... also the tea and coffee was not filled up regularly or checked we had clean cups..... All in all housekeeping was poor !

Slightly disorganised check-in, couldn't find the key to the room for 15 minutes or so.

Great hotel, great room and freindly efficient staff.

Came down for breakfast on the Sunday morning at 9.03 only to be told i was to late. However when i booked breakfast was until 10 a.m. Paid for breakfast, no refund was forthcoming. Was offered a bacon Sandwich, however they had already put the mothers day roasts in the oven, and even that was not available. Disapointing end to an otherwise nice stay.

Staff were very nice, bed was so comfortable. Definitely good value for money.

Location to concert venue

Third time stayed there, third owner, room was very grubby, window rattled all night, duvet and pillows hadn't been changed in years, dirty stains on towels, TV didn't work, no cups in room, toiletries were have used. Will not stay there again

Poor service. Food not worth the money. Tv diificult to work and v dated. Noisy from road and raised voices in the bar area. Felt grubby. Check out in the mroning took tto long.

Location and food.

Large spacious room; good car-parking;5-minute walk to shops; staff friendly and helpful.Would re-visit if in this area again and would recommend to others.

The location and the staff were very nice.

The hotel needs a face lift, rooms badly in need of decorating and new carpets, the room smelt fusty, the bathroom smelt of disinfectant, there were bulbs out. The coffee in the room was 2 months out of date. Breakfast was ok, but the cups on the table were dirty. There was beds and cots in the passage ways near the bedrooms. We did not complain as we will not stay there again.

The room was a little bit inefficiently soundproof .

Only the location. The hotel was dark noone at reception to greet had to ask bar staff. Tv didint work in the room. Decor very tired and basic though reasonably clean. Breakfast was very poor, cheap fruit juice no fresh fruit.Staff didnt know that breakfast could be booked on line so chef had been cancelled to prepare and cook breakfast. Table linen was dirty and when reported was told it had been left on from the night before. The linen had been left on a lot longer judging by how dirty it was. Bacon was very salty and didint taste very fresh. The noise on the saturday night from the bar was intolerable and went on till at least 1 oclock in the morning. They obviously dont take into consideration paying guests. Overall we wont be going back even though the location was perfect. They need to get the hotel inspector back ?
