The hotel is very centrally located in Southwell with a good sized car park at the rear. The room we had was superb! In the old part of the hotel with old oak beams but with all the amenities of a modern hotel. The staff were very friendly and happy to help and the breakfast very nice. The room was lovely and warm and nicely furnished, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

the best thing about the saracens head is that we booked a double room, and because we mentioned about getting married that weekend, the receptionist upgraded us to the king charles suite, the staff where lovely too.

A bit tired - and having breakfast was a bit like sitting in a morgue!

We liked the old world charm and location to Lincoln and the motorway networks. Reception staff were very friendly. Nice enclave of facilities around the hotel. Car paark to rear but not dedicated to hotel and thus difficult to park. We were urged to eat in main restaurant and also shown an alternative bar menu. We decided to eat in the main restaurant as we both liked fine wines. At the last minute I noticed a featured fish and chips on the bar menu. I enquired if I could eat that in thee main restaurant andd my wife would select from the gourmet menu. I was astonished when I was told "no" as the chef did not want the smell in the main restaurant. Can you imagine that making one of your featured dish's secondary in class. This would mean both my wife and I would have to eat in two different restaurants! Instead we ate in the Italian restaurant accross the road where there were three couples from the hotel. Hotel bar at 5 o clock was like a locals bar with the tv blazing Jeremy Kyle about sexual problems. At 9 o'clock went into the lounge and was told we could not be served a drink and would have to go the bar. Waited 5 miunutes, couldn't get served and thus we went to bed -- service doesn't fit with setting of this hotel. Discovered that nobody had eaten in main restaurant that evening!! Room was so hot and could not be adjusted unless turned off. Hotel is wasting energy and should install thermostatic radiator valves. Tap in bath would not stop dripping and we had to place two towels in bath to deaden sound. Sound from traffic deafening late at night and early in morning, coupled with creaking of all floors and coridoors -- not much sleep. If sevice and attention not improved hotel will go past its sell by date.

Apart from the fire alarm going off a couple times it was a very pleasant stay. Everything I could hope for in a business standard B and B / hotel

Excellent central location and historic appearance of the building. Breakfast was good. The modern extension at the back was utilitarian and a disappointment for a historic inn. Although the room was generally ok, it was characterless - this was surprising for a location with such character and history.

The rooms were very comfortable and the price was reasonable. Breakfast was included and was served to your table - no need to queue for a buffet breakfast. The location was great - right in the centre of Southwell.

Very nice room with comfortable bed, in a wonderful historic building right opposite the beautiful Minster. Thoroughly recommendable. Our room was over the entrance where drinkers from the bar go out to smoke, so until the bar closes it can be a bit noisy. This is probably not a problem with other rooms.

A comfortable and restful stay. Particularly impressed by the cosy lounge. Very polite and friendly staff. A real coaching in feel. Good breakfast too. Noisy floorboards, but characteristic of an old building!

Great location, right in the centre of town. The room we had was a good size, with a nice bathroom. Breakfast was well prepared. Because the town centre is strictly 'one way' when driving, the actual hotel car park can be a little difficult to find. Better signage needed, especially at night.

This was a practically perfect English hotel! Everything about our stay, from the location, the welcome at reception, the friendliness and courtesy of all staff (reception, bar, breakfast-room, housekeeping) whom we spoke to, plus the high-quality food and reasonable prices. We would not hesitate to recommend The Saracen's Head to friends and colleagues, and hope to stay there again soon.
