Stunning views, friendly staff
Bed fine, pillows hard.
The welcome was lovely Really reasonably priced Comfortable And the view at breakfast was stunning.
This elegant Victorian house has lots of original features, splendid views and highly agreeable food and wine in the a la carte restaurant. My good-sized double room overlooked the lake as does the morning room where breakfast is excellent - and when I set off at dawn one morning I was given a packed meal and a flask of tea. Best 'til last - lovely people! I would not hesitate to go back.
Not a dislike, but be sure to give the winding country roads up to Sawrey the respect they need and allow a few minutes extra.
Fantastic value for money Immaculately maintained rooms and grounds Very well prepared dinner and breakfast that took care not just of taste but also presentation Friendly and helpful staff
Nothing at all
As soon as we arrived we were greeted and informed that we had been upgraded from the small double room that we had booked. Our 'new' room was twice the size (both room & bed) and was lovely. Could not pick any fault with the room, hotel, breakfast or location. Great base for relaxing walks and a great local pub just up the road. Staff at the hotel were friendly and we had a really nice time (day & evening).
Warm welcome from manager Nick. Clearly meant for the hospitality industry, friendly and approachable throughout our stay. Requested two rooms close together, even though we booked last minute this was accommodated. Friendly relaxed atmosphere in the bar area. Pleasant rooms with good views. Nice view from breakfast dining area, which doubles as tea rooms during the day and was in demand. A nice short break.
Waitress at breakfast seemed to struggle with English, so when I asked for a slight variation it didn't work out very well. Personally I don't like cushions and throws on hotel beds. Makes me wonder if they're laundered between guests. Prefer just nice clean duvet cover.
Near Sawrey is a lovely quiet location, Hill Top is right next door. Our lake view room was warm, comfortable and well equipped. Plenty of hot water and a modern clean shower. The breakfasts and evening meals were delicious and the chef and team went the extra mile to accommodate my food allergy.
No negative comments.
Cosiness Location Breakfast
Dinner a bit expensive - but nice
The breakfast menu was fulfilling and had a good range, waitress was friendly and prompt to deliver our meals, no complaints with the meals for breakfast.
Upon check in we were asked if we wanted dinner in the restaurant located on the premises, we declined and was then asked if we wanted it for our second nights meal to which we also declined as we were going to explore what Sawrey had to offer in terms of pubs etc.. We found a great one up the road. Breakfast on our first morning we were again asked if we would be dining at the restaurant in the evening by the waitress serving us breakfast. Our room was off the main corridor to the kitchen, noises from the kitchen could be heard until 10:00pm and music from the breakfast hall could be heard early in the morning. Twice my partner and I touched the heated towel rail after exiting the shower, it is extremely hot so be careful.
I liked the hotel for the surroundings, the staff where helpful and friendly
the rooms need some insulation on the walls,I could here other people in there rooms above me and the room next to me I was kept awake with people talking,
The views, the peace and quiet. Exploring and walking in the area, sitting on the terrace watching the rabbits and just being somewhere very special for a few days.
The funny little chaise lounge, looked great, but I think I would prefer something more practical and more enjoyable to sit on.
Nice village with two pubs within a mile and Beatrix Potter associations. Very quiet with Esthwaite Water reasonably close.
The location of this hotel is everything, it was the perfect spot from which to explore the Lake District. It has a spectacular view of green fields, hills & Esthwaite Water. My room was clean & comfy, as was my bathroom. All the staff were friendly & helpful. I can't wait to return!
Position, food, staff, view.
Staff were accomadating
The roads to the hotel are awful, but that's no fault of the hotels.
I thought the room was lovely and the breakfast choice was really good and the food was cooked really nice
We was really enjoying our stay in the hotel until we visited the restaurant on Saturday night, my boyfriend had the duck which was cooked good but the size of it was rediculous especially considering the price. I had steak which was lovely but ended up cutting it in half so my partner could have some as his meal was far to small. For pudding we ordered the cheese cake which is one of my favourite deserts. I was extremely disappointed with this. For a £10 desert it had clearly been left out for a while as it had started to fall and tasted like a mouse and the sorbet had melted all the design of the sauce away. I ended up having to send this back. Although they took this of the bill nobody came to appolagize for the way it was which disappointed me. I felt the atmosphere was very poor as well and me and my partner felt like we had to whisper to talk and it was quite uncomfortable. I was really happy with the hotel until this point and was very disappointed with it as I was really looking forward to going in the restaurant. I feel it really let the hotel down and for that reason I would not return as I spent a lot of money and ended up being very disappointed which was a shame.
A charming old place to stay in, very helpful & friendly staff. Close to everything i wanted to see.
The setting, food, staff, and rooms exceeded our expectations. We were very pleased with the charm of the home, the lovely gardens, and the nearby sheep in the fields.
Great view Very friendly staff Romantic dining room Fast free WiFi Located only a 5 minute drive to Hawkshead Homemade biscuits in the room
Cheap toilet paper
friendly welcoming car park
the noise from the bar downstairs makes going to bed before closure time a little bit more difficult
Everything especially the staff
Bed poor Pillows poor Shower room awful Paper thin walls no sleep
Location Food Rabbits on the lawn
The house is located in a very nice location, 5 min walk from a small lake
We got the small room onvthe 1st floor Very small room in front of the , hallway leading to the dining room,
I loved the pastoral beauty of the place! From the sunny breakfast room (best morning fare of my 3 1/2 week visit to England) and terrace, I could see green hills, forests, sheep grazing, bunnies hopping. The staff was so helpful! My rooms was comfortable.`
Sawrey House Hotel's charm lies in its being "tucked away"; however, as a traveler without a car, I faced the challenge of how to get around the beautiful area. I either took an hourly (10:00 to 19:00) Mt. Goat SUV the 1 1/2 miles down to Lake Windermere or, better, I walked on footpaths there. Then I took the car ferry across the lake (just 50 pence) and walked 1/2 mile more to transportation hub Bowness, where local buses and tour boats waited to take me wherever I wanted to go, including the nearby train station. Those with cars will have an easier time!
