Possibly the best hotel I've stayed in Beautiful building and surroundings. Excellent staff and presentation. Traditional atmosphere with modern comfort. And a good size - personal not anonymous.

We stayed at Sawrey House Hotel in the Lakes District, for four nights in August. Situated in a small village a little way from the main tourist towns, it was in an ideal location to explore further or to relax. Well appointed and very clean establishment. Easy car drive to other areas. Good on-site restaurant. Good English "pub" just around the corner.

Beautiful old house, especially the entrance hall and the rooms. The terrace and the views over the lake are amazing and the peaceful quiet location was perfect. This corner of the Lake District is a hidden gem really. Food was very nice too and staff friendly and welcoming. It's a shame that the dining room extension is so out of character with the rest of the house. It has the appearance of a 1970's flat roof extension and its quite dark inside. The house has been clearly been beautifully refurbished, and it's a shame this extension wasn't replaced at the time with something more in keeping. A victorian style conservatory would make a much lighter more airy setting.

Friendly helpful staff. Beautiful building in a stunning country location. Very relaxing atmosphere. Well placed for visiting many interesting places in the Lake District. Breakfast was 8.00 to 9.30am. We arrived at 9.10am but at 9.30am the waiter staring clearing the buffet table. He did ask if we wanted anything else but we still felt a bit rushed.

Cleanliness of the Hotel was excellent, room very comfortable. The shower was powerful and a welcome reviver after a long day of walking. Breakfast menu very wide and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Excellent throughout.

I felt very looked after at SHH. All the staff were extremely professional yet laid back and friendly. The included breakfast was fantastic. However, I didn't try the evening meals as I thought they were too expensive. I loved relaxing in the living room style lounge at night, where I was even waited on then. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

The location of this hotel is superb. The views to the rear are outstanding. The food is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The whole hotel is spotless & clean. The only areas for improvement for me would be, The entrance to the dining area is through a very small doorway with a curtain hanging up. The tables we sat at were a little rickety and creaky. The restaurant area in general although well maintained and clean, was a bit dated and had far more potential, a shame really as the food was excellent. The bathroom would benefit from some ventilation, very steamy after a shower or two.

The location was beautiful, and it was very restful, away from the main crowds at Windermere. The view of Esthwaite lake from the breakfast room, and the garden was lovely. Very peaceful at night, with no noise at all, apart from the birds singing first thing in the morning. Our room was a good size, very bright and clean, and the decor was tasteful. The dinner we had there one night was delicious, from start to end. I couldn't fault it. The only downside i would say was the size of our bathroom, it was a bit of a squeeze. However, its understandable, as the building is an old stone building, so the bathroom had to be added into the original room size, otherwise an extension to the house would be needed, which would ruin its appearance.

The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings, we stayed in the luxury four-poster room, the room is beautiful, the staff are very friendly, we will definately stay at this hotel. Would recommend a visit, staying at this side of the lake is much nicer than Windermere, much quieter and relaxed, showing the true lakes, totally uncomercialized. Many thanks to all at the sawray house hotel, for a lovely stay.

We enjoyed the stay and would recommend to others to stay there, Staff very friendly, quiet location with stunning views even in April, Rooms clean,Breakfast and evening meal very good, would we return? Definately. Silly thing tea and milk provided but no little packs of biscuits, ginger or shortbread pack ,not really important but in guest houses you would get this as a standard!! wouldnt cost much more to facilitate. The extra touches can make the difference.Pictures on the walls/rooms should be of the Lakes to promote the area to boost tourism.
