Friendly staff, good location , clean and comfortable .
Apartment isn't part of The Saxon anymore, so can't comment on The Saxon (apart from new owner was very friendly and helpful!) but would recommend the 2 Bed Apartment! A group of friends and I stayed in the 2 bed apartment. It was lovely, there was a slight mix up with gaining entry to the property but once that was sorted out our stay was fabulous. It's in a great location, within about 10-15mins walk to centre of York. The apartment had everything we needed, including some extra's, the food package was more than we expected and was a lovely surprise. It was modern, clean, quiet & safe feeling. What more could you ask? Thank you!
Shower drain didn't work too well.
top sheet on double bed was too small was t big enough to go over both of us, and when we checked out was told just to leave key on t side. breakfast was bit of a dissapoitment thought there would be a selection of fresh crossants.
Comfortable beds. No noise from other parts of building. Facilities were good in general (oven, hob, fridge, dishwasher). Lovely bottle of wine. Easy access, parking. Breakfast - bread, croissants, jam, butter, cereal.
Wasn't as clean as it could have been - smeared plates and glasses, floors with dust, edges not well vacced etc.. Milk (provided) had already been opened. Slight smell of stale cigarette smoke, particularly upstairs. Sky not working. Not sure who owns it as NOT linked to the guest house.
Helpful staff, comfortable room with space to store our stuff. Nice bed and lots of hot water when needed. We would happily stay there again.
Nowhere to put our damp towels except draped over the shower, the end of the bed and furniture knobs, and the shower head did need propping up. However, still got a good shower.
Easy to get to when driving into York Pleasant walk into York along the river (15 minutes) Good Parking facility (off road) Informal atmosphere Owners were friendly and helpful
Our room looked out onto the main road so a little noisy when windows were open, however they were double glazed and kept most of the sound out when closed.
Very friendly owners and not far from from centre
For the price they charge we had expected a lot more and were disappointed. Breakfast was only continental with no choice of English breakfast. A lot of money for little in return. House in need of redecoration and tlc. Very uncosy dining area. Also, booking.com had not informed Saxon House about our 2 rooms as we discovered 2 days before - owners did their best to find us rooms and succeeded.
A great location on the south side of the city and gave good access to everything.... Apartment was very modern and clean. Excellent service from the owner and we highly recommend it....
Debbie, the owner texted an hour before we arrived asking where we are going to arrive and that she will be there waiting. She left us complimentary bottle of wine, few items for the breakfast, some information about the property and things to see. the place was a 20 mins walk from city centre. it was clean, comfortable and quiet.
We stayed for 3 nights at the Saxon House. The B&B is only a 15 minute walk from the center of town, longer if you want to take the less scenic route and miss out the river. Breakfast was well stocked and had more than the average B&B. The owners cared for the business, customers and cleanliness! We will be returning!
The only problem we had other than climbing the 3/4 large flights of stairs when drunk was that the shower took forever to drain and I resorted to turning the shower off several times as to stop the water overflowing.
Close to city
Never saw anyone
Friendly helpful staff, GREAT location, nice breakfast. Read a few bad reviews of the 4 poster room and was really scared of being disappointed but everything was absolutely spot on! (They must just be moaners, I'm afraid!) The room was spacious enough and was comfortable and nicely decorated and me and my boyfriend had a really lovely time! The owners suggested all the best places to go for food/drinks and we werent disappointed at all!
The bed WAS quite squeaky like a few reviews had stated, but it wasn't much of a problem!
- Angie and her husband were really friendly and helpful. - Breakfast was simple but filling start to the day. - Rooms really nicely decorated.
- Was a fair distance to walk from the train station, however was a nice walk along the riverside.
Good Breakfast. Quiet Neighborhood
We stayed in room 1, was situated at the back so nice and quite. The room was small, cosy and decorated nicely. The shower wasnice and powerful. Great location, about 10mins from the centre so peaceful. The owners were welcoming and helpful with good tips for eating out etc. The breakfast was lovely, i liked you can do your own thing. We will be coming back!
Nothing negative to say.
Location and free parking.
We traveled all throughout England and Scotland and the Saxon had the fastest WiFi connection of all. They had a nice breakfast in the morning and were very helpful. Beautiful walk to town.
It was rather stuffy. Warmer day than normal, but the fan helped.
Easy walk alongside the river into the city. Very nice and helpful staff. Plentiful continental breakfast. Good value for money.
Bathroom very small - a hook or two would have been useful. Traffic a little noisy when the window is open.
Availability of Gideon bible in the hotel ?
Drawers in the room a bit dusty
staff location b+b
Beautiful, clean and cosy room and very friendly host.
Breakfast was available on time, wasn't bad and as it was spare we were upgraded to a bigger room.
The bigger room wasn't very big so i'd be unimpressed by a smaller one, we had to wait for 10 minutes outside for someone to answer the door when we arrived, and when we were ready to leave there was no-one around to take out key or our money, I can only assume they've claimed it through booking.com. The room was directly on the main room and as it didn't have air con and it was the height of summer we had to have the windows open which made it very noisy and difficult to get sleep. The shower was tiny, i'm average size and I struggled to fit in it.
we were having a short break in York with two teenage children, the apartment was cosy clean and well stocked with everything you need on a self catering visit. Location was good there is a friendly pub and great Chinese takeaway across the road. all in all we would definitely stay here again
Close to the city centre, about 15 minutes walk. Close to the University, 25 minutes walk. Landlady very friendly.
Clean enough but with some hairs on toilet and shower. Windows with some greasy spots. Carpets need a change, they are dirty and very used. Breakfast very simple and not very appetizing.
