Scafell Hotel  

The ambience is comfotable and relaxed. The food is excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful - particulalry when there was a problem, they went to great lengths to make sure it was resolved in a satisfactory way.

Hotel situated in beautiful and quiet surroundings and about 15 mins drive from Keswick. Staff friendly and most helpful. Room clean, very comfortable with pleasant view. Excellent buffet and cooked breakfast. This hotel sets a high standard at reasonable price. Hotel highly recommended

POSITION. good standard but to be expected for the price range

No external key for hotel. Hotel in darkness and locked out on Sunday night despite the fact that we were back 15 minutes before the reception was supposed to close.

We fear the decor was rather an assault on the eyes!!

The views, the decor, the atmosphere, the coziness, the slick and comfortable bathroom, the warmed towels.

Situated in a stunning area of the Lake District, location is an excellent base for many walks straight from the doorstep and on your return the Riverside Bar is just the place to relax and unwind.

Very good and high standard of welcome and very friendly staff

The only thing that spoilt our stay was the very poor parking facilities. Parking at the hotel front was limited to around 10 cars and these were very restricted on width. The overflow parking area was a real mess with deep pot holes and mud, this was made worse by having no lighting. For the price I would expect a much higher standard for parking.

Comforting and welcoming hotel. Ideal position to explore the countryside. Bars and food excellent. Good beers and malt whisky.

There is no mobile signal (for any operator) and the hotel Wi-Fi only had very limited coverage - ie in the reception foyer and in the Bar (but only for the radio???) Needs to have a commercial wireless router installed so that all the guests can use their smartphones and tablets etc etc.

Lovely setting in dramatic countryside. The lounge and bar area were wonderful with real log fires. The evening receptionist/ bar attendant was absolutely fantastic. The food in the restaurant was excellent.

The main hotel was lovely but our family rooms were in the annexe which was dark, damp smelling and had extremely uncomfortable beds. The service levels were very poor. We had to make our own beds, the hotel would not provide afternoon tea even though they had 20 hours notice, the restaurant only opened if you asked them provide an evening meal well in advance - we also witnessed other guests being made to move table for no reason, the waitress had put the menus on another table? We began to appreciate the customer is never right! - we weren't allowed any more olives after having one each before dinner as we'd had those allocated to our party (of 5).

Good staff and facilities. Reasonable breakfast selection served with a smile. Very comfortable lounge and cocktail bar with welcoming open fires to take the chill off a January night. Rooms were very comfortable and pleasantly warm. Dog friendly.

Nothing major, the adjoining pub next door was pleasant enough with a good selection beers etc. Nice open fire. Food was only average. Lack of internet facilities in the hotel is unusual these days especially not having any mobile phone coverage too... But maybe that was a plus actually.
