Easy to find, out in the country yet close to the amenities of Lancaster. Welcoming and helpful staff. Extensive dinner menu, reasonably priced and well cooked.
The decor of the whole building is lovely and comfortable, the personnel friendly, helpful, and competent, and the rooms and beds are particularly comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel in a beautiful setting: only 5 minutes from Lancaster and 15 minutes from Lancaster University, but in a peaceful and beautiful rural setting.
Enjoyed the spa bath and the lovely warm bathroom. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was great. Lovely building and location.
Enjoyed everything in this hotel ! Nothing too much trouble, food excellent & very reasonably priced
Location staff breakfast
I liked the style and ambience. The staff were friendly and helpful and the price was very reasonable.
One radiator in our room needed attention and the other was turned off, so the room was chilly to begin with.
A lovely warm cosy hotelAlthough we. didn't have an evening meal the food looked very nice.We enjoyed a very good breakfast with good service.
We had a lovely 2 night stay here and will differently stay again. The hotel is exactly as described, situated in lovely surroundings with very helpful and efficient staff. The hotel has 7 rooms and really is an old country house. We had the Cedar room which had a spar bath as well as shower plus all the high stand of furnishings and equipment you would expect and a great view. The hotel has a bar and restaurant too so we an evening meal there on our first night which was very nice and we couldn’t fault it also very fairly priced. Breakfast was great too. The hotel is only a few miles outside Lancaster but is in the middle of the countryside so it is exactly what we had wanted as we were after a piece and quite break, however it’s convenient for travelling for example to the lake district, Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham, Yorkshire or wherever. The hotel also has a large function room and is able to cater for all sorts of events. There is plenty of parking on site. The river Lune is short walk or drive away and close to the bridge has a lovely picnic area and various walks and cycle ways. I can’t rate our stay here to highly, our stay was in February and we are planning to come back during the summer months to experience the difference. Oh yes there is also free Wi-Fi with good coverage throughout the hotel.
Nothing, everything was great.
Flexible to suit our group and very considerate of our needs
Good location for North West and ports. Host very amenable and made us feel very welcome.
Unfortunately due to age of hotel not much space in double room and we both knocked ourselves on the corners of the uncomfortable bed
Lovely quiet, peaceful location, good food. was on route to collecting son from Lancaster university for Christmas. Enjoyed our winter stay. Would like to return in Summer to enjoy more of the nearby places of interest.
A very welcoming family-run hotel in a beautiful location. We loved sitting by the open fire in the evening after a very nice meal - simple but well-cooked and presented. Lovely big bathroom. Very helpful and friendly staff. Great to have free wifi, in contrast to the chain hotels just down the road in Lancaster!
Having to pay extra for the breakfast! Just take care when booking on the website; it's not always apparent that B&B doesn't include breakfast... but this isn't the fault of the Scarthwaite.
Manager was very friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Great overnight stop.
The friendly approach of the staff
Staff welcoming and friendly. Room comfortable, clean and spacious.
Although the food was a while coming this was because it was cooked to order. We had both breakfast and evening meal and both were excellent.
Location is great, in the country but not too far from the motorway. Set in lovely grounds. Great hotel with all the facilities to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable one. Return is a must
Nothing I didn't like
Large bedroom, huge en-suite Tasteful, period decoration Staff were welcoming and helpful Very good breakfast.
No negatives, didn't try out the Wi-Fi.
Found hotel on the net and so pleased we did, a real find. Michael was the perfect host and was very attentive. The food, evening meal and breakfast were delicious and the hotel itself is decorated in a sublime, classy style! A thoroughly enjoyable experience!
The staff were friendly and approachable, and very willing to help in any way they could. The food was well cooked and attractively presented, and although the wine selection was limited, it was very well priced.
What a find! The staff were fantastic and could not be more friendly. We ate dinner and that was good too. The bathroom was spotless and looked almost new. Very quiet and secluded but only a couple of minutes from the M6 junction. We will definitely stay again.
Hard to find something that wasn't first class. Being extremely picky, a king size bed would have been better but the queen one was very comfy.
Some of the decor was a little dates, but that's minor in the grand scheme of things.
Arrived for breakfast before any of the other rooms, theady was not ready to serve breakfast up but worked quickly to try and make it as soon as she could. She was very accommodating, pleasant ad helpful
We used the hotel as a base to meet friends they travelled up from Leicestershire and we travelled down from Scotland. The hotel was very cold, we complained and the fire in the bar was lit but unfortunately it made no difference. We chose to eat in the hotel as we enjoy a leisurely meal and time to chat and catch up but we were so cold we ended up going to bed, which was no warmer you couldn't even warm up in the shower as there was no hot water and no hot water in the morning after. We couldn't bare to stay for breakfast and headed to Lancaster to enjoy breakfast in a comfortable environment. We were very disappointed as we decided to stay because of the excellent reviews we saw on line. We will not return or recommend the hotel
