“ The service from we arrived until we departed was second to none. The manager and his staff could not do enough for us. The chef even came in early on the Bank Holiday to prepare breakfast for our early departure. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone intending to travel to the Lancaster area. ”

Offering spacious rooms with free Wi-Fi, this former Victorian country residence is set in its own extensive grounds. With lovely riverside scenery on the doorstep, guests are 5 minutes’ drive from Lancaster. Bright rooms at the Scarthwaite Country House Hotel each have a TV, ironing facilities and free tea and coffee. Some rooms overlook the gardens, whilst all have a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Locally sourced produce is used to create home-made cuisine in the Conservatory Restaurant. The adjoining bar stocks local real ales and has a relaxing open fire. Scarthwaite Country House is only 1.5 miles from the M6, and a 10-minute drive from the scenery of the Lake District. Guests are also 20 minutes’ car journey from the Forest of Bowland. We only spent 1 night in the hotel on our way to Scotland for a 3 week break. Everything was absolutely wonderful, the food was piping hot and delicious, the room spotless and extremely comfortable and we would recommend the hotel to anyone. We have indeed already done so to friends who will be travelling to Scotland in September.

I got woken up at 4:30am by a shouting arguing couple which continued for 30 mins then they tried to get in my room mistakenly as their room was next door. Then the male locked the female out and there was some banging and shouting for the next 30 mins. No one from the hotel staff came to do snything

A warm welcome and a very comfortable overnight stay on our way up North. Very convenient - just off M6. Really good value for money. Overbearing commercial radio played in bar on a television. Once everyone else had gone we tried to turn it off with no success!

The staff are great and the building & location is pretty. Décor in each rooms is different & individual , nice period touches. Clean with good facilities. Short drive to Lancaster centre for shopping & pubs / dining. Room a bit small this time, décor could do with a bit of an update, bathroom bin had not been emptied but otherwise v clean.

Very friendly staff, bedroom clean and comfortable, quiet location. Good breakfast with good coffee. I like the fact that it is quite old fashioned, it suits the house. Location didn't come up on the GPS, but as we know the area we had no difficulty finding it.

Friendly staff from the moment we arrived until the minute we left. Huge room Comfy lounge with log fire Minutes from Lancaster & Lake District Quiet We would have preferred a room with a view to the river, but what we got was acceptable

Nice location, very friendly helpful staff and good evening meal Very poor TV reception, picture kept pixalating, no heating in bedroom but fan provided, no toilet roll in bathroom, dining room very cold no atmosphere only 3 other people in the hotel. woke to the sound of a cockerel! Very tired decor hotel in need of a refurb

Staff were friendly enough, breakfast was nice. We felt that the website description was very misleading, the bedrooms were very small and old fashioned, we had a kettle and a fan heater on the floor, which I am not sure would comply with health and safety. We would not stay again and very disappointed.

Quiet location Helpful staff Large room Room and en-suite bathroom was extremely cold on arrival and during the whole stay. Radiators not on full and had to rely on small heater to warm us.
