Alnmouth is a lovely village so the location was good. Although our room was at the front, facing the street, we were lucky to get a room with a (distant) view of the sea between buildings (Room 2). Newly-refurbished room and bathroom with a good shower. WiFi connection was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was so recently re-done that they obviously hadn't quite finished; frames on the wall with no photos; no emergency exit notice; no chair (one - was provided when we asked); no toiletries in bathroom, not even a piece of soap - we asked for tumblers which were supplied but still no soap or shampoo...! It didn't matter, we had our own, but it was weird. Also the TV had obviously never been used, we had to click through the set up process. However all this shouldn't matter to future visitors. The other really strange thing was the board outside the front door advertising two restaurants, two bars and two menus - "Italian/American" and "English/Indian". In fact, it was two rooms with the same menu - a very basic pub menu with one Italian dish (lasagne, of course!) and nothing remotely Indian. We certainly didn't consider eating there the second night but Alnmouth is well supplied with eating places - try the (real) Italian food at the Hope & Anchor, it's wonderful.

Excellent location, and really good bar and restaurant. Staff very helpful Expensive for three star facilities, but the area demands the price. The hotel should advertise that they have late night operations like ghost hunts

Alnmouth is a superb place, and the Schooner is wonderfully located. Laid- back but helpful staff made it a good overnight stay. Food at the Schooner is good, if basic pub fare. Rooms on the top floor will avoid much of the creaky noise, and there is a good sea view from no 30... if you are under 5ft tall! The schooner is an old building that creaks a lot, and is far from soundproof (the guy below us snored - loudly - all night), and there's detail that needs catching up on. Broken door closers and bathroom hooks being an example. (We got the impression the management is on the case and the place is on the up, though) Beware if you don't like dogs. All the pubs and hotels seem to advertise as "dog- friendly". Now, I used to have dogs, but I don't like them in bars, where they defend their owners' territory in the way of barking fights, or in restaurants, where our food is being served. So please, Alnmouth, get your act together, and if you detest dogs, don't come here!. The breakfast could, or rather should have included local kippers.

The great value for money. Well appointed room. Comfy bed. The cooked breakfast. The good pressure of hot water. Free WiFi in public areas. No on site parking (to be fair, I was warned in advance). No free WiFi in rooms.

Although I was virtually the only occupant, I received excellent attention from the staff. I was comfortable in spite of the inclement weather. Lovely fire in the foyer. First and last dinners were good but the second was not up to standard.

We had a fantastic stay at the Schooner. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The hotel is a lovely countryside hotel. We stayed there on a cold November night but the heaters in the room were great. It is a really short walk to the coast. A fantastic hotel all round.

I loved the mix of old and new features, was an odd combination but it added to the character of the building. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the room very comfortable.

The location was excellent. The staff were friendly from the time we arrived to the time we left. We had a nice room - ok maybe it needed to be brought up to date but it was clean. Very comfortable bed, modern television, coffe making facilities etc etc.

Because we were leaving too early for breakfast, we were made up a breakfast pack each, complete with drink and a bap with fresh cut slice of ham, plus fruit and crisps. Just what we needed to get us going en route!

Very warm in room, all of the time, which is nice when it was so cold outside. Liked the oldie world feel of the hotel and history of it. Carpets could of been cleaner, throughout hotel.

Nothing, we will NEVER stay there again The entire hotel is tired and need heaps of upgrading to make it acceptable. The room was the coldest we have ever slept in, the TV did not work, the breakfast room was cold, the food was poor, as if delivered out of a hopper and the staff were uninterested. This place has nothing going for it and I would never recommend it to anyone

Alnmouth is a beautiful location. The hotel is in need of refurbishment. The hotel is OK, but overpriced for the standard of accommodation. The double room was 2 singles pushed together.
