Very good,
Score from 20 reviews
“ The house was lovely, with lots of original features, I would have loved to explore that as I have an interest in old buildings. The hotel allows dogs to stay and there are plenty of places to exercise them. The room was spacious, comfy, warm and well serviced. The breakfast was very good. Our host was friendly, opening the bar even though we were the only guests. ”

In a peaceful, secluded valley on the outskirts of Ilfracombe and convenient for Woolacombe, this splendid 18th-century country house is surrounded by gardens, woodland and streams. In a quiet location, Score Valley Country House is 1 mile (1.6 km) from Ilfracombe; a 5-minute drive or a pleasant 20-minute walk through Bicclescombe Park to the High Street. Hidden from the road in its own valley behind a band of tall trees, the location makes it a great base from which to explore the vast sandy beaches of North Devon's golden coast or the wonders of Exmoor. The attractive, tranquil grounds surround the hotel’s car park, which is free for guests. All of the spacious and comfortable rooms are individually furnished and equipped with all the necessary comforts and facilities. Score Valley Country House takes great pride in its relaxed, friendly atmosphere and locally sourced home-cooked food. We really enjoyed our stay. It is set in a very peaceful location surrounded by fields and woodland, yet very easily accessible. The staff were very friendly, particularly Roger who served us an incredibly tasty breakfast ever morning. Only a short drive to the coast and convenient for exploring Devon. No hair dryer or conditioner.

The house was lovely, with lots of original features, I would have loved to explore that as I have an interest in old buildings. The hotel allows dogs to stay and there are plenty of places to exercise them. The room was spacious, comfy, warm and well serviced. The breakfast was very good. Our host was friendly, opening the bar even though we were the only guests. Factors beyond the hosts control, I felt disappointed for them. The weekend was the coldest Easter I have ever know and it would have been nice if the hotel was bustling with people! Our room was warm but the common areas a little chilly, partly because it was a cold weekend, we were the only guests and I cn understand from a business point of view that it would not have been cost effective to have it roasting for 2 people. We brought plenty of winter woolies!!

This was my second stay, hosts Roger Jenny are probably the most friendly and helpful I have had the pleasure to meet and I would recommend a holiday here to anyone. A very peaceful setting close to Ilfracombe. Cleanliness and comfort of the room. Quality and range of breakfasts on offer.

Spectacular location just out of town. Lovely old house with lots of character. Friendly hosts and delicious breakfasts with a wide choice of options. For groups the bar and games room are ideal.

The room was clean and recently decorated and the breakfast was very good. The owners were very nice. We were disappointed as we felt that the Score Valley Country House Hotel was a very nice B&B but not a hotel. We went expecting a hotel with a bar and restaurant. There was a bar but no-one in it and no restaurant. I feel it should be advertised as a B&B.

The cooked breakfast were surburb and varied, I stayed for 6 nights and they were flexible about changing the time to suit the Conference. The single room I was staying in was not tucked away but had a full window and a more than adequate bathroom. The bed was firm without being hard. TV and video's if I wanted them with tea and coffee facilities. A welcoming bar which I never got to use unfortunmatly

It was in a very quiet location with lovely gardens. Food was good and plentiful and no waiting around. Host was very helpful in advising about where to visit as we had not been to that part of the country before. Our room was huge, very comfortable, had lots of homely touches. Felt more like staying with friends than a hotel. There was no shower, only a bath, but we did know that when we booked. And the bathroom was massive and lovely to relax in, in a hot bath.

breakfast was excellent, well presented and freshly cooked. The fact we had to change our room due to an error in admin by the hotel owners. The fact that we had to specify exactly when we wanted our breakfast.

Very friendly family run hotel, well located if you want to be out of the town away from the crowds. If you are looking for a good old fashioned English hotel and not your typical sterile characterless travellodge then this is for you.
