In a quiet location, the Score Valley Country House Hotel is 1 mile (1.6 km) from Ilfracombe; a 5-minute drive or a pleasant 20-minute walk from the High Street. Hidden from the road in its own valley behind a band of tall trees, the hotel makes a great base from which to explore the vast sandy beaches of North Devon's golden coast or the wonders of Exmoor. The attractive, tranquil grounds surround the hotel’s car park, which is free for guests. All of the spacious and comfortable rooms are individually furnished and equipped with all the necessary comforts and facilities. It was quiet and the owners were extremely pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Only a minor point but the drive and parking area were rough and very muddy.

Did not like the hotel at all. The horrendous musty smell in the hotel made us both feel nauseous - it clung to everything, even the wine glass smelt so much it had to be washed out several times - but even that did not clear it. We could not stay the two nights as booked - all our clothes smelt, you could even taste the smell. The bath had the most awful old rubber pipes from the taps, supposed to be the shower?? Breakfast was awful - soggy muffins, no attention to detail. This really needs a reality check.

The hotel is in its own grounds away from any traffic. If you need a quite, relaxing break then this is where you need to be. For us, this was just what we needed. You have got a choice of breakfasts but, whatever you choose is more than adequate, you will not be left hungry.Roger and Jenny are very helpful and pleasant hosts. The only thing really is the road leading down to the hotel, which I am sure given time Roger and Jenny will sort out.

Very friendly and very welcoming. Nothing too much bother to make our stay comfortable. Location very peaceful. Close enough to Ilfracome for convenience but far away enough for peace and quiet. Our friend who was with us said it was the best hotel she has ever stayed in.

Venue was quiet but convenient, easy to find but out of the way. An elegant house tastefully converted to a private hotel. The hotel was very helpful with our special needs - an early breakfast. Staff were friendly, always smiling but unobtrusive.

Friendly staff; good food which was well presented and cooked. Large room which was clean and not too fancy (one person has asthma and lots of frills harbour dust so good in that respect). Slightly difficult to find; kept driving past it even though it was signposted.

The cooked breakfast were surburb and varied, I stayed for 6 nights and they were flexible about changing the time to suit the Conference. The single room I was staying in was not tucked away but had a full window and a more than adequate bathroom. The bed was firm without being hard. TV and video's if I wanted them with tea and coffee facilities. A welcoming bar which I never got to use unfortunmatly
