Known for colorful nightlife and traditional English seaside pursuits, Brighton and nearby Hove are the closest beach resorts to London, making them popular end points for classic car runs from the capital. Many end at the racetrack, a few streets from Brighton Marina, Europe’s largest, housing several shops and eateries. Many Brighton guesthouses on Booking.com are also nearby.
Running along the beachfront is the world’s oldest operating electric train, ending by Brighton Pier. Lit up at night and also known as Palace Pier, this city icon houses amusements and rides, and is one place to pick up some famous Brighton Rock, the confectionery sharing its name with an edgy Graham Greene novel set here.
A new addition, the Brighton Wheel is right by the pier, while one of its most famous attractions is the Royal Pavilion, a former royal retreat built in Indian style.
Just west are 2 of the most popular Brighton shopping spots – Churchill Square shopping center and The Lanes with its narrow streets and unusual shops. This area also has several Brighton hotels with parking, and the Artists Quarter, a series of ex-fishing huts that are now galleries. Arts + culture are big in Brighton, and Brighton Festival is the UK’s 2nd largest arts festival, while Brighton Pride is also a big event on the annual calendar.
Have been to Brighton many times, and would go more.
Have been to Brighton many times, and would go more. Loads to do, many bars and restaurants. Seagulls can be scary as come very close and will nick your food if you're not careful. Lots of things to do and places to visit. Amusements, if that's your thing and the marina area is lovely.
Lots of shopping and a huge array of jewellery shops in the lanes. Good shopping, both high street and lovely, small boutiques.
Only downfall, pretty much everywhere, is limited parking and what there is, you pay a lot of money and are rarely near where you are staying. Usually have to do luggage drop off, go find parking and then walk several miles back!

Parking can be expensive but shop around.
Parking can be expensive but shop around. Just park or my parking space is often cheaper. Or park a little further out and use the very frequent busses.
Amazing bagle shop in kemptown.
Definitely worth a trip to legends.

I only stayed one night but Legends Hotel was amazing, it...
I only stayed one night but Legends Hotel was amazing, it didn't serve evening meals but there were 8 different cuisine restaurants within a 5 minute walk in the adjacent St James's Street which runs parallel to the seafront, 1 back. I loved walking along the sea front so much history there just think of Graham Greene's amazing novel Brighton Rock or the film Quadrophenia and the history of the 1960s Mods and Rockers. The beach is fantastic, pebbles, but almost no litter despite a horrendous onshore breeze which would normally sweep in all sorts of stuff and the streets too were mostly litter free (but with a £150 on the spot fine for littering, be warned). The only facility I used on the beach was the Sealanes Pool which was absolutely fabulous, clean, well maintained and fully worth the £11 for a 1 hour swimming slot. Of course the frame of the Palace Pier dominates the seascape after the fire a few years ago but there is a very touching sculpture on the promenade made from rescued pieces, very emotional and evocative. There are also many independent shops along the front and in St James's Street and I wish I'd had time to browse, the bazaar on the corner with Bedford St is a gold mine for collectable bric-a-brac.

Brighton is a great place for a short break even in winter.
Brighton is a great place for a short break even in winter. We had two sunny days when we enjoyed walking the length of the esplanade and visiting the Palace Pier for fish and chips and having a go in the amusement arcade. We had two wet days when we could take advantage of the Museum and Art Gallery, the Dome, and shopping in the North Laine - what a great selection of independent traders. The toy and model museum beneath the railway station was a particular highlight. We were spoiled for choice of places to eat well, or just grab a delicious coffee and cake in the Laine.

Brighton is always lively and full of interesting characters.
I've been to Brighton several times, and I was disappointed this time at how shabby and tired it looks.
The streets were littered.
Shops in The Lanes had closed and were derelict.
A sign of the times I suppose, but very sad.

The Malmaison at Brighton Marina is an exceptional hotel and without a doubt the BEST I have ever stayed at. I had a front suite with balcony overlooking the beautiful Marina. The furnishings, quality of the rooms, bathrooms was absolutely 1st class and the decor and trendy lighting throughout the entire suite was stunning. All staff that I had dealings with were very efficient, friendly and could not do enough to help me when needed. I could not fault this hotel in any way, and plan to return again for a longer stay in the near future.
The room had everything what was needed. Room and bath were very clean. The daily room service was very good. The breakfast was nice. The location was excellent, near bus stations for coming from or going to the train station; but also very near to the Palace Pier and city center. I enjoyed very much that the bar was open till after midnight, a last drink or beer of the day was always available. The rate for these three nights was very fair. I can only recommend this hotel.
The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They were very kind and helpful. All the staff were excellent but we would partiularly like to thank Josef, Sofia, Julia, Lucia, Catia and Carolina.
The breakfast was beautifully cooked.
The room with the view over the beach had an absolutely marvellous view and was spacious.
The location was great for the beach as well as having restaurants nearby.
wonderful flat, tastefully renovated in an ideal location, at walking distance from everything, Brighton center is at 15 minutes walk, the beach down the street, all restaurants and shops nearby. The parking opposite Hove town hall is close enough and very convenient and is cheap! Very quiet building and neighborhood. One of the best rentals we've had in a long time. Looking forward coming back!
Great friendly welcome, cosy and interesting lounge/breakfast room - lots of artwork. The decor lives up to the hotel's name! Room a good size, very comfy bed, hot shower, air conditioning a huge bonus. Lovely breakfast - including vegetarian. Parking in nearby Regency Square. Very good value. Have stayed in many similar hotels in Brighton and found this one of the best.
Very nostalgic and nice hotel in a great spot of Brighton. Our room was with sea view overlooking the Pier and the beach and we had such a nice time while watching outside sitting on our armchairs in the room. The bed was comfy. The room was spacious. The breakfast was very good. The staff were really helpful.
Great location, just down the road from the pier and beach area with nice cafes and restaurants. Nice breakfast and lovely owner who treated us well and spoke with us at breakfast. The bed was massive and very comfortable. The room was clean and tidy and had chocolates and peanuts awaiting us.
We needed 3 single beds in same room which isn’t easy to find.
Location was away from the centre of Brighton - Hove beach was quiet compared to Brighton beach which was packed.
The hotel doesn’t do breakfast but there are great places to eat nearby. The other meals at the hotel were great.
The hotel is in a great location, right by the beach and near all the Brighton sights. The staff here were fantastic and super friendly, room was clean and the bed super comfy and the shower was nice and powerful. Overall it was a great stay.
Staff were excellent. there were a couple of issues but these were sorted out without any hesitation.
Breakfast was also very good, with a good selection of food
The seafront view from the hotel is probably one of the best in Brighton.
Great value for money. Room was compact, but well equipped. Pre-booked breakfast was excellent. Hotel was very quiet and comfortable. Plenty of restaurants nearby. About a 40 min stroll along the beachfront to the center of Brighton.
It was a really peaceful and friendly hotel, the view was amazing, right on the beach. Breakfast in the morning was also really nice and had a gluten free option, as someone with coeliac disease this was very much appreciated 👍
Friendly staff, great location in Lanes, near all shops, fab restaurants and hotel/pub itself does good food, right near beach and Brighton Pavilion and taxi rank, breakfast really enjoyable and its brought to your room.
room was comfortable and airy. Staff were helpful and approachable. wE LIKED THIS HOTEL ALSO BECAUSE IT WAS SO CLOSE TO THE BEACH. The room was clean and very functional.
