Our room was bright and comfortable and clean. We had a super sea view overlooking beautiful gardens. Every member of staff was cheerful and helpful and we particularly enjoyed the breakfast each morning. The hotel was just outside central Portsmouth but public transport was excellent.

Friendly staff. Lovely soft and clean towels and a good breakfast. The room was cold and the radiator didn't seem to work. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The shower was cramped

Friendly staff, nice room, good location. Special requests were dealt with awkwardly. At check-in, the reception staff confirmed that we had requested a cot with our booking and we let them know that we would be leaving very early in the morning to catch a ferry. The cot was not in our room - we had to chase another member of staff to have it installed. Then reception rang us late that night (waking our toddler) to tell us that we needed to settle the bill immediately as there would be no one available when we departed, something that we would have wished that we had been told at check in, rather than after we were already in bed.

The staff were just lovely, very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was fantastic and great value and although the dining room was full there was little delay in getting everything to the table. We had one special request for no egg which they handled really well and actually cooked the non-egg breakfast separately to reassure us. The hotel is old but spotless, not a spec of dust anywhere, quite an achievement in an old building. I liked everything there but did have one concern, the walls were very thin or maybe needed a bit of insulation and was a bit embarrassing sharing with my young son when the couple next door came into their room as we could hear everything start to finish including their pre-bed conversation although it wasn't very loud. Had to answer a few questions around what was going on next door and he will definitely have a lot to add to discussion when they next have sex education at school.

Ideally situated for access to many places by rail boat and ferry. The food was of a high standard and the restaurant is a good size The hotel is rather tired and needs money spending on refurbishing and decorating.

Good location , very friendly staff . Excellent breakfast . Minor detail but could do with more added extras in the room eg courtesy bottle of water , more coffee sachets (only 1 provided) & a box of tissues . Otherwise very good value for money .
