Seven Stars

The hostess was a delight and so helpful. The rooms were clean, spacious and the beds were oh so comfortable. It was also very quiet with no noisy pub or traffic around. The breakfast selection was vegetarian friendly and delicious.

The Severn Stars is friendly and welcoming and good value for money especially the superb breakfast. Our street facing room was double glazed and thus quiet but in reality Hay is a small rural town with winding streets and the traffic noise is not such a problem anyway.

Interior very basic and lacks the wow factor which seems a shame given the age and qaintness of the building. Has the air of lacking investment in the room. Had in mind a property the Hotel Inspector may see as not realising its full potential.

It was quaint and authentically Welsh. Breakfast was home style and plentiful.

Very quick service by pleasant staff (and their children) of a full breakfast and no quibbling at all about extra toast and coffee. A modern room (not an olde worlde one) which was a disappointment ar first but turned out to be more comfortable than an olde worlde one might have been.

Parking a bit awkward but I guess that's the price of a very central location. A pity the bar was closed.

We loved the warm welcome - the nothing is too much trouble attitude and the feeling that we were part of Di's family. The hotel is ideally situated for the shops and having a car park is a definite bonus. As for the breakfast it was superb. Thank you

The only thing that annoyed me was the shower in the bath. With no curtain round it it would have splashed everywhere.

Hay on Wye is a lovely place for a quiet relaxing break, and there are plenty of places to eat & drink. Seven Stars was clean & comfortable and the staff were very welcoming. The breakfast was delicious and the portions generous. We didn't use the swimming pool but it looked very nice.

I would have liked the shower to have been more powerful but it certainly didn't ruin a lovely stay.

The location was excellent. Breakfast had a really good selection and was well cooked. Comfortable bed.

The Seven Stars didn't live up to the web-site, the room we were given was tiny and we were moved to the family room (shown on web-site). The bathroom was tiny with very low water pressure and was not the cleanest - hair/dust on skirting boards, dirty window and under sink. There were cobwebs, it was crowded dark and dark in places and no mirror near plugs to use for hair dryer etc. generally the place was dark with random furniture and decoration. Staff friendly and made us feel welcome but generally in need of a makeover and some tlc. Disappointing an opportunity missed to be a fabulous B&B. We wouldn't stay at The Seven Stars again in it's current state or recommend it.

The staff were friendly, helpful and very professional.

Owner was amazing. She called to confirm our booking shortly after we made it, also enquired as to our arrival time - if it was going to be late, to call her and she would arrange to leave the key out for us. Staff were excellent on arrival, with easy check in. Breakfast was good, excellent service.

Nothing! Everything was great

We booked three nights at The Seven Stars in December 2012. The building is 400 years old is charming. It is also comfortable and well-maintained. The breakfast lives up to its reputation, delicious and hearty fare to keep one going for a full day of bookstore browsing. We didn't have time to visit the pool and sauna, but both looked very inviting. The location is great for visiting all of the stores in the village, as well as easy access to hiking trails along the river bank. Manager Di was really helpful and made our stay even more enjoyable.

This was not a negative for us, but the building is very old and has some creaks and drafts.

Thin walls allow for noice disturbance from other guests e.g. snoring

We were due to arrive quite late in the evening. The owner called us on route to let us know that she had booked us into the only restaurant in town that would be open at that time for dinner. If she hadn't done this we would have been really stuck and very hungry! Great service. Great location. Wye valley walks right on the doorstep and plenty of restaurants and pubs for the evening close by. And of course, lots of amazing bookshops.

Due to using booking.com there was a slight confusion at the end of our stay as we thought we had already paid. We understand this is in the small print but perhaps it could be made clearer that payment is taken at the hotel not at the time of booking. Apparently other guests had made the same mistake.

Breakfast was too late at 8.30AM . People on business need to leave long before then . Breakfast needs to be 7AM to attract business stays

We loved it, just wish we had more time to stay. Although our visit was brief, it was evident that the landlady runs a good hotel. We were made very welcome and the breakfast was excellent. Please pass on our thanks.
