The beautiful scenery from the window and the peace and quiet was definitely the best features of the hotel.. We were so tired when we ordered dinner and they mercifully brought it up to our room which was quite a relief. Rather a small helping of soup-that's all.

We broke our journey from Scotland; as we had our dog with us we were allocated room in the annex. The room was clean, comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast was fine. The woodland walks were perfect for us and the dog. We got a good rate from Booking.com and felt the room was well worth the value Nothing..... For the rate we paid it would be churlish to complain about anything

We have stayed at the hotel previously, and was glad to find nothing had changed. I asked for a room with a view of the river, and got one. The bed was very large and comfortable, as was the room. We like the quiet location of the hotel, and the lovely grounds. We were rather dissapointed with the selection of 'full 'cumbrian cooked breakfast on offer. Plenty of cereals and fruit though.

The hotel was welcoming and in a really quiet location so it was good to be able to sleep with the window open. The staff in reception were friendly and helpful. Our whole stay was let down by your restaurant - service and food! The 'manager' appeared stressed which was reflected in his general (mis)demeanour while the waiter simply didn't speak?! The food was really disappointing which resulted in us (5) eating out in Shap. The rooms were lovely in general but there was some bad mould found in room 117 (under the rubber bath mat). As we were the main sponsors of the televised, World Sheepdog Trials event staged on Lowther Estate, it would have been nice to get channel Move4 in our rooms each night too. Sorry! Just being honest.

The relaxed atmosphere. The out of the way situation of the hotel. If only the weather had been dry we would have enjoyed a walk round the grounds which looked very nice from the pictures on the web site. The staff were friendly and polite. If we come up this way again we shall certainly book into this hotel again.

The Walk attached to the hotel Reception help Entrance to Main Hotel at reception area Rooms should have been prepared for our entry (heating on - too cold) Hairs in Bathroom means Housekeeping was not doing their job right Breakfast would have been better as a Buffet Breakfast. The staff serving were not 'at their most alert'

The Hotel was very clean and comfortable, with an excellent choice of english breakfast. This location was very poorly signed at the roadside, we arrived in Shap in the pouring rain, and the boards were difficult to read, the cooked english breakfast was not very warm, and the toast was cold, the staff were not very helpful on the reception desk either when we arrived or during our stay.

Location away from urban areas, and good access to motorway. Most of clientele was +65, with community singer for their own entertainment. Bar also poorly stocked, with little resident areas away from community singing.
