Location if your exploring the area
Room was tiny.....bed was awful and tiny.....the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in.....steak was nice bit of meat but burnt and bitter on the outside....residents almost exclusively elderly....
Friendly staff, with a very warm greeting. Hotel is in a fantastic location, with beautiful surroundings and a great walk through the woods surrounding the hotel. There are signs warning about red squirrels although sadly we didn't see any. The room was comfortable enough that I slept soundly - can't ask for any more.
The long and winding road down to the hotel is very narrow in places and heaven help you if something is coming in the opposite direction. The hotel is a little tired-looking in places, but the overall package meant that it didn't really bother me.
Comfort and ambience
Poached eggs order was very slow in coming. The waitress refused to accept one set. The next ones were poorly presented. The eggs could have been more tidily arranged to maker them look more appetising.
Hotel in green field, there is nothing around and like into the story. Pub dinner was nice.
Loved the location, so pretty. Very convenient for the Lake District or for travelling North. We were heading to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a perfect place to stop.
Great location , friendly staff ,great value
The unique position of the hotel; a tranquil oasis on the moors. Also, its old world charm and the pleasant and helpful staff. Would definitely visit again.
The road leading to the hotel could be improved for vehicles other than fourtracks.
We had 2 rooms (3 adults). The rooms were nice to look at.
The valve on our radiator failed and we had 2 nights of knocking which sounded like the radiator was going to come off the wall. The noise went to all bedrooms on all sides of us. It was reported to maintenance on the first night but nothing was done about it. The walls of the room are paper thin and when people got up at 5 am and showered and talked as though it was the middle of the day you could hear everything. We also got a 7.00 am wake up call (in both rooms) when it hadn't been requested.
The hotel and surrounding countryside was beautiful. The stream, the wooded walks, proximity to Ullswater, Windermere, Ambleside etc all good. Tranquil position of hotel ( need a car ) . Gorgeous.
Friendly staff who gave our son lots of time and attention. We had a great stay in a great location within easy reach of Kendal and Windermere. With what we saw of Windermere we wouldn't have wanted to stay in Windermere. Shap was quiet and in a beautiful location with stream and waterfalls.
Great hotel. Lovely grounds. Comfortable beds.
Not all staff are as friendly as others, which is a shame.
quirkiness of the hotel
no leisure facilities
We chose Shap Wells because of the great price and fab reviews we read. The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds surrounding the hotel were beautiful. We went for a quiet relaxing break and this is definitely what we got.
Good location for touring
Staff, food and cleanliness only just good enough!!
Quiet and relaxed. Pleasant staff and ideal location.
breakfast was a bit messy with empty juice and no cereal bowls.
It was the perfect place to break our long journey to Scotland
The staff were friendly and the breakfast was nice
The rooms were too cold on a night. The heating needs to be put on at night instead of during the day.
Lovely location off the beaten track, you can totally hide away from the hussle and bussle of life close to motorway but not a sound of modern life to be heard (excellent)
One small thing hotels wi fi conection is poor !!!
Quiet location Good food in the evening Friendly bar staff
Banging door outside bedroom on first floor Breakfast was not very hot with Luke warm coffee
Conveniently located in nice quiet area which breaks up the journey to Scotland
unable to receive wi-fi in room.
A nice location for a corporate hotel. Be sure you know how to find it, it is off the main road.
One of the reasons for us to choose the hotel was wifi, since we needed it on our trip. The wi-fi is promised as one of the features. When we arrived, we could not log in, because as we were told, it can simultaneously be used by only 30 people, while there are more than 100 rooms in the hotel. We stayed there for 2 nights, and we're not able to use wi-fi, there was always no capability. Even after some people checked out, and there were basically no cars on the hotel parking. The hotel personnel was very unhelpful, telling that they are trying to help, but actually doing nothing. They advices us to go to use free internet in McDonalds in a village in 15 min by car! So, if you do not need wi-fi, the place is fine. If you need it, I would not recommend staying there.
Lack of air conditioning
Great place and location. Very good breakfast
Poor wi-fi connection
