Location and friendly stuff
Wifi is very poor
plenty of open space very dog friendly room great breakfast surrounding walks spacious rooms
this visit room wasn't ready on arrival and a member of bar staff was rude and unhelpful.
Great views Handsome building Close to M6
Disinterested staff Disinterested staff, Dreadful food & service No lights in bedroom/bathroom for duration of visit & no apology or discount offered Mould on carpet, curtains, walls & windows
cleanliness. Room welcoming, cosy and warm. length of stay before departure which is 11 am. longer than others. Breakfast staff very welcoming as was the receptionist and the relief manager. Breakfast very good. lots of choices
arriving late at night (to find reception shut) only to find we were not allowed an alcoholic beverage upon arrival due to the bar closing at 10pm. we asked for the drinks to be added to our room bill but were denied. noticed 5 or 6 members of staff sat in the bar area and no one was keen to welcome us or even check us in. we did get checked in by a chap who was setting up for breakfast. No urgency, dedication or commitment from the evening staff.
Far too noisey @ night - base & drums until 0100
Staff were exceptional - very pleasant and helpful. Room pleasantly decorated. Evening meal was lovely. Due to its remote feel - no traffic meant no annoying background noises.
Bath looks a bit tired. Breakfast could have been hotter.
The hotel when you find it is excellent. what a hotel should look like, very grand and spectacular. Food excellent, rooms excellent especially the Very large bed. the decore and the furnishing of the hotel very good. excellent surroundings for walking a very good hotel for the price excellent value for money..
excellent hotel, but maybe if more signage to show direction could be used especially if trying to find in the dark and signage to say once on approach road you are not lost keep going

Staff were very attentive
Poor Wi-fi - at some times non at all.
Value for money. Friendly and helpful staff. Thanks to the chef for giving me a lift to neighbouring friends farm.
Booked double bed but it was two singles - gap kept appeared in the middle of bed
Nicely decorated and furnished Very helpful and efficient staff Nice breakfast Lovely setting
Need a sign telling you to keep driving through the field to reach the property WiFi was slow until later in the evening when fewer people were signing on.
No traffic noise at night. Very peaceful. Good spacious room. Very comfortable bed.
Rather a remote location. If you do not want to eat in the hotel it is quite a distance to find somewhere. Bathroom was rather dated.
Food was good, room was warm, beds were comfortable
Didn't like the remote location, the wifi was rubbish, not enough tea making facilities especially milk, had to ask for more. Not enough info about the hotel in room e.g location of things.
Poor staff service Wi fi weak
Nice quiet room very suitable with a pet
having to queue for breakfast but when we got our food it was excelle t
Very friehdly staff easy. Check in
Off the beaten track can be hard to. Find
Style of furniture and decor. Lay-out of public rooms. Non-smoking.
Too many doors (fire doors I think so I realise they are unavoidable, between Reception and our room.
Would recommend with reservations. We were a party of 5 - a family of mixed-age adults. We booked 2 rooms - a triple with 3 single beds - which was enormous and extremely comfortable, and a double with one double bed which was strangely tiny. The tea tray in the bedrooms was a welcome touch and the breakfast was plentiful, varied and tasty. The dining room staff were friendly and helpful (not so the reception staff). The evening entertainment in the bar/lounge (singer) was fun if a little amateurish. The games room (snooker, table tennis) was open till very late although there was a problem obtaining tennis table balls. The view and the gardens with the wood, stream and RED squirrels are lovely and the period building, entrance hall and staircase are attractive. Although one of the dishes on the evening meal menu was a disaster, the waiter immediately arranged for a replacement/refund at his own initiative. The unusual jewellry/accessories gift shop was a surprise bonus in the middle of nowhere. In all, a peaceful, beautiful and relatively comfortable getaway.
Although the triple room was excellent - large and clean - the double room with double bed was tiny and extremely cramped - well below standard size. It also wasn't very clean - there were spiders' webs around the top of the window and it was dusty in areas such as the window ledge and in the corners of the bathroom/toilet floor. I found the worst problem was the top sheet and wool blanket combination; there were NO DUVET COVERS to encase the blankets - very unhygienic not to scratchy. The reception staff were curt and unsmiling. Extremely difficult to find even during the day - insufficient signposting - don't wait till dark - it is amidst pitchblack country lanes and fields - very easy to get totally lost. Also, IMO, having to pay even 30p for a one page flier describing the history of the hotel building seems a bit OTT- if anything it should be handed out as a marketing tool.
