I like that guests had access to the kitchen and living room, so you weren't confined just to the room. Although the facilities were basic, everything clean and the location. Due to being off the beaten track in an attractive location, it was quiet with no traffic noise, just the occasional owl hoot!
Our main dislike was the one bathroom on first floor, that served at least 3 bedrooms. It had no shower. In the morning it was a fight to get to the bathroom before the other several guests. The second morning, one of the other inconsiderate guests decided to take a 45mins soak in the bath. By the time the bathroom was free, I was too late for breakfast. There is another toilet, and shower downstairs but you have to go through the kitchen an eating area to get to it. This means you have to pass other guests eating breakfast in your jim jams, holding you wash bag. I'd rather skip breakfast! Desperately needs sink in the bedrooms, so that you can at least give yourself a quick wash in morning. The beds were very uncomfortable and the mattresses had turned yellow with age. Noisy, creaking floorboards and doors with gate type latches, that made a racket when going the loo at night.
Decor was excellent with lots of books and even vinyl records, breakfast was nice, prepared by the friendly owners relative. My friends enjoyed the sauna, and nice touches such as fresh tea leaves and ground coffee provided. Very clean and tidy in a very peaceful place.
We had the premier room downstairs which was extremely noisy in the morning at breakfast time along with when anyone used the adjoining downstairs sauna/bathroom. Wished the glass ceiling had some blinds as it was bright very early. Watch your toes on the metal recliner.
Great Breakfast Nice Kitchen Very Clean and New
Room was not tidied on second day, cups not washed or ground coffee supplied. Room doors are thin wooden doors and noise from outside travels signifcantly
None of websites tell you your room has a glass roof without blinds! No sign of owner Waste pipes in room with no soundproofing at all!
Location Breakfast Level of service and hospitality Owner went out of his way to help
Shared bathroom Lack of parking area
Arriving late we worried satnav wouldn't get us there - but it took us to front door of hidden gem. We loved the artistic flair of the redesign and the air of a life well lived in the books, paintings and furnishings. If we had arrived earlier or stayed longer we would have loved to sauna.
I liked the privacy and friendly morning service.
If the place was full then the noise between thin doors was audible.
We loved how clean and homely the place was. Our welcome was as if being greeted by a friend which was lovely! The breakfast was also amazing!
Our room was not very secure; late at night we had a visitor walk into our room. The house was very noisy at times, especially when any one used facilities above us as the pipework runs through our room. So sleep could have been improved.
The third bed was a proper bed not a sofa bed. You had the run of the house as the owners dont live there. Very clean and tidy.
Shared bathroom but we knew that, it was the only available accommodation on the weekend of the universities open day. Everywhere and i mean EVERYWHERE creaked from the bed to the wooden floors to the doors, take earplugs!!
Breakfast was all fresh produce and was a nice change from the usual full English.
The exterior of the property is extremely uninviting - so much so that we pulled away thinking this couldn't be it! No one there to welcome us.
Staff was really friendly and helpfull.
Very low level of privacy. Shared bathrooms should get a proper clean - mould. It looks like somebody wants to squeeze as much money as possible without investing a penny...
The sauna was a definet bonus and the breakfast was a nice change with all fresh fruits, salmon and makrel makes a change from the normal English breakfast.
The room was very noisy due to no carpets and had to wait quiet a while to use the bathroom as there was only 1 to share upstairs there was a downstairs sauna room which had a toilet and shower in but you can't get in if someone is in the sauna.
Location, general atmosphere, friendly.
A bit difficult to find.
Great interior and fab breakfast
Wooden floors means that noise travels
Room was large, lovely downstairs area and garden. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Shared bathroom facilities, perfectly doable but not something that I liked. That said the facilities were very clean.
Really friendly and relaxed. Lovely garden.
Parking is a bit tricky
Staff were very welcoming and lovely
Parking was a struggle as tree roots and fence it was tight to move around on drive
Very friendly and helpful staff
Only one bedside light for two of us Bed was a mattress on a box - not a proper bed No mattress cover
the place- taxi driver diffcult to find it
Excellent continental breakfast
No TV in either the rooms or the guest lounge. No hairdryer available, shower room downstairs
Felt like staying at a friends house. Spoke to the owner prior to booking who promised a substantial continental breakfast. This was really excellent with a wide range of food available including meats, cheeses and smoked salmon. A lovely place to stay.
Prefer en suite but there was no problem accessing toilet/bath/shower
Friendly, quirky, comfy room with good tea and coffee,
bit tight for parking
Fantastic. Everything. TY
