The food was adequate but limited in choice except for the breakfast menu which was excellent. Dinner was more like a motorway cafe than a three star hotel.

Quiet and convenient. Not really a complaint but attention to requirements at breakfast could have been better, e.g. I wasn't asked whether I wanted toast or bread.

The hotel provided a very convenient access point for the north-western lakes and Cockermouth. The hotel was warm and cosy; the staff were very helpful and courteous. The meals (both dinner and breakfast) were superb. It is difficult to think of any bad criticism for this hotel.

The staff were friendly, extremely helpful. The facilities were very good and I found everything I wanted in the room. The temperature of the hot water was excellent and the shower was a very enjoyable experience with excellent hot water and pressure. I would have liked fresh towels every day though. The service in the restaurant was also very good. I would have liked fresh towels every day.

Comfortable room, good tv, very good ensuite shower. Friendly staff. Breakfast service could be faster, public areas of hotel in need of a facelift and more thorough cleaning (eg thick cobwebs round the entrance door light gave a disappointing first impression). Generally felt a bit run down - the former sheep and wool centre and shop in the main building were closed and stocks were being sold off. Old display boards left lying around upstairs. A sad memory of former good times.
