The room was clean and tidy, bed made every day, tea, coffee making facilities good. Breakfast was good and hot if a bit limited on choice.
Don't arrive after 10pm even if they say it's ok. It took us over half an hour to raise someone to give up our room keys even though they knew what time we were going to arrive - no one answers the emergency phone. Double bed is just two singles stuck together so don't fall down the crack. They don't have a late breakfast at weekend so breakfast finishes at 9 am so no lay in.
Large room and warm. Breakfast was very good
Carpet in bedroom was in need of replacing
Large clean room Large TV Free Wi Fi Excellent shower & Bathroom Very warm Friendly and helpful staff
very friendly staff with exceptional service, room was comfy and modern, shower was amazing just what I needed after a soaking day karting, food was excellent and the free breakfast followed up to be amazing too, highly recommended to everyone
The only thing I didn't like is that I wasn't there for longer
poor range of beers in bar
for us the location was prime reason for booking. it was close to the best parts of the lake district and although very close to the roundabout we were not disturbed by traffic noise. staff were friendly and the breakfasts were well cooked and filling.
doors are noisy when they close as there are no handles on them to make closing quieter
I liked the friendly staff good breakfast room v good
the staff were very accommodating in all requests made. they let you know that they were there to look after you and supply the best possible service. food was of the highest quality I will most certainly book into the shepherds hotel on my next visit.
Helpful staff Location Food
Getting a warning note about evidence of smoking in room which certainly did not happen which spoilt our stay Manager said we should not worry about it
staff couldn't do enough to help Had been to family funeral and arrived back after kitchen had closed for evening - yet they still made sandwiches and made us very comfortable.
Arrived late but restaurent shut at 8:30. Nevertheless knocked me up a jacket potato.
This was my second visit to shepherds hotel and my stay was as the first the first visit I stayed at the hotel for a week to explore the Lake District found it to be very central with good facilities clean rooms great food and friendly staff hence why I chose to stay at the hotel overnight for a second visit thank you
Nothing to not like about the hotel
Location for accessing the area. Friendly and helpful staff
Car park looked a bit like a builders yard with large drums of cable. A bit worrying at first wondering where on earth we had booked but on entering the building our fears soon disappeared.
Very noisy.we were located above the main entrance.smoking, mobile phone calls and taxi doors slamming.doubt we will stay again.stopped following weekend at travel lodge.
Breakfast was very good a clean room
OK as a base for the lake district
Go to Shepherd Hotel 2 or 3 times a year, and its always very good. Staff are extremely pleasant, the room is ideal and the breakfast is brilliant. We visit relatives, but it is a good venue for sightseeing the north Lakes.
It would be great if we could get the occasional bargain, but prices seem to stay the same! I can't say there is anything I didn't like, maybe a little less rain!!
Good location for access to part of Lake District needed.Excellent parking and near to town.
Reception closed at 10.00 p.m. and restaurant at 8.00 p.m. Flock of noisy geese resident outside bedroom windows.
not bad for the money and the food in the restaurant was good and you can book one night ( hard to do in the lakes district ) I go back
bit of a hard bed and could do with an upgrade
Ease of finding hotel; warm welcome; comfortable bedroom with wifi and generously sized ensuite facilities. Good choice of food at the price for evening meal and a filling breakfast.
room tidy and plenty of space, bed very large and comfy.
Rooms had been decorated but not very carefully.Cobwebs in corners, signs of mildew in bathroom.
Location was very convenient. Family room was large and comfortable. Evening meal was really tasty, and very good value - the steak, cooked on volcanic rocks at the table, was melt in the mouth perfect! Shower was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very substantial.
The exterior of the hotel looks a little run down when you approach it from he car park. The beds (twin and a bed settee) were a little uncomfortable, but were fine for one night.
Good location with a good breakfast help yourself to cereal fruit yoghurt then continental or full english. Rooms good size and base to go explore all of the lakes and coast line too. Great shower with lovely fluffy towels.staff polite and don't pester you.
As we pulled up outside the exterior in desperate need of refresh not great first impression.
Beds were uncomfortable. A double was 2 singles pushed together with an uncomfortable ridge down the middle.
The staff couldn't do enough for us and Carlos is a massive asset to the Hotel. He laughed and joked with us at breakfast and tried to teach my son some Spanish. Amazing shower too!
pets in rooms! food menu is more restricted e.g. no bread buns/cobs with dinner - used to be much better!
