Shepherds Hotel  

Good location.

Apart from our waitress at breakfast, the staff were completely indifferent about us - no smile, no welcome, no manners. I was woken at midnight by the television in the next room which came on by itself - the room was empty. I had to get the night porter to come down and let himself in. To make matters worse, MY television then went off at 6.20am. The TVs clearly need sorting out. The hotel and bedrooms are now looking tired and in need of renovation.

Convenient location, clean, comfortable room with a decent bathroom and a great shower

Very good location for use as a base to visit the beautiful countryside. Accommodation good value for money and staff very friendly and helpful.

Good size rooms and en-suite. Comfortable beds. Ensuite shower was large, hot water and good flow. Very good breakfast with good choice of cereals and make your own toast etc. Hot food very good anddelivered quickly.

The exterior of the building was not very inviting with some areas taped off and some plaster breaking off. Staff were friendly and hard working but the hotel was clearly not fully staffed so some small delays at reception. Only snacks available in the evening and not of a very high standard but ok if thats all you want.

Well designed hotel in a convenient position. Unfortunately the staff were somewhat at a loss about the new regime introduced that day. Perhaps a conscious decision has been made to downgrade the business.

Convenient location for touring the Lakes

Good location, dog friendly and good breakfast.

My evening meal was poor ( beef lasagne "special" - tiny portion, very dry and insipid looking garlic bread). Otherwise partner's evening meal ( black rock) was good.

Being on the busy a66 road we could hear the traffic noise in our room - even with double glazing

My son and i stayed there on business and was working nearby . The staff were very helpfull and friendly .we would definatly stay their again just for the breakfast .

The room was comfortable

I was disappointed to be honest - i stayed here with a view for utilising for future business but alas was very disappointed. It was like walking into a working mens club when i first walked in and though the room was nice (i believe it was the refurbished part of the hotel) that was the only good thing. The restaurant was something from the 80's and dirty and it was clear the building had had a prior use as a tourist information centre and sheep demonstration building.
