The owners are so lovely. I was taken very good care of when I got ill, and both Susan and David showed interest in us. Breakfast was excellent! Different yoghurts, pastry, fruit (even strawberries!), cereals... And you can have lots of different things toasted. The dining room also has a lovely atmosphere. Very easy to walk to the train station and city centre. Takes about 30 min. In our room, there was an impressive selection of tea and coffee, and there were toffees and chocolates as well. The towels were also very fluffy.
Excellent position, quite suggetive rooms, wonderful staff! The perfect starting point for your gothic trip to Edinburgh!
Extremely welcoming and friendly owners. Well stocked tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom biscuits and toffees. Continental breakfast but with very good selection of meats, yogurts, pastries, cereals etc also toast, bagels waffels offered. Ours was only room not ensuite (bathroom just across landing) although we did not find this an inconvenience and we offered fluffy bathrobes. Would definitely stay at the Sherwood again and would recommend to family and friends without hesitation.
Our room was too small.
We changed our original booking and David was very understanding. We were staying in Edinburgh to watch the Ryder Cup and had to leave early and David made us a lovely pack up as we left too early for breakfast. This was very unexpected. But very gratefully received.
great location, good recommendations for dinner, super breakfast, cordial host
located room was initially too arm and thermostat was hard to determine which way was cold/hot; had to sleep with window open (onto main street)
Although only a couple, we booked the triple room as it was the only one left and I felt it was still reasonable value. At the end of our 3 night stay I have no regrets with this decision. The room had lots of little extras you normally don,t get in a B & B. eg Fridge, safe, ironing board, snacks. After 3 weeks of English breakfasts I was happy to have their continental breakfast as their excellent fresh fruit, cereals, breads and toasted options were more than enough. The numerous buses that stop nearby make getting into the main part of town easy. Both John and Sue were easy to engage in conversation.
spacious room delicious breakfast warm and friendly hosts great shower with excellent water pressure!
Plenty of tea coffee milk clean towels bottle water soap shampoo conditioner all free very friendly management
Excellent and kind owners who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Great locale- 1 mile from the Royal Mile. Comfy bed.
The room was slightly smaller than I would've expected but it was still nice
John & Sue were wonderful. The position of Sherwood House is within a decent walking distance to the Royal Mile plus there is a bus right near by. The room is designed really well so that everything you need is in there in a small space. We had an early tour and John got up early to supply us breakfast to get us going for the day.
There is parking for cars but it is only 3 spots.
Everything! Dave and Susan were great hosts, breakfast was lovely with a variety of options, the room was cosy but very well appointed - everything was right at our fingertips.
Very good location for us to visit Fringe venues and tourist spots - on the bus route, but also walkable. Hosts were very accommodating no request too big or too small. Lovely breakfast with great variety to choose from - loved freshly toasted waffles and crumpets.
The room was small, but they had fitted in everything you could need; lovely big towels; excellent breakfast; convenient for the centre with good bus service; very welcoming and friendly hosts.
With the window open, there was some noise from the road.
The owners were very helpful & friendly
Top notch Scottish hospitality - they will do everything in their power to accommodate you (in our case, gluten intolerance & veggie preferences). Nice breakfast with lots of fresh fruit, yogurt etc. High standard, newly renovated bathrooms. Bus stop outside the door (but it's just a mile to the city center). Free guest parking.
Nothing really. But be advised that Minto is a relatively busy street, and some rooms are small. But those are things that you know in advance, and it wasn't a problem for us at all.
Everything we could have needed was provided. Spotlessly clean. Wonderful breakfast, did not need much lunch! Dave even gave us 'breakfast to go' when we had to leave early to go to our games event in Glasgow. Microwave and fridge in room very useful. Fantastic selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc and my daughter loved the sweets. Very nice shower room with plenty of toiletries and lovely soft towels.
Poor TV signal. Room very narrow, I banged my knee several times getting past the beds to get to the kettle.
HOTEL WAS SUPER , CLEAN COMFY ROOMS, EXCELLENT CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST CATERING WITH EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF. OWNERS FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR
Breakfast is really good.Classic music on the background. Room is very comfortable. Good wifi. Excelent shower.
More expensive than the average.
Nice place and considering Edinburg is really expensive it's reasonably priced. Great breakfast and very nice hosts.
The room is ok for small and medium-sized people, but I guess that for bigger person it may be rather uncomfortable.
Susan and David are lovely hosts and genuinely caring about their guests. The rooms are very pleasant and the breakfast is good, tasty and served in a nice atmosphere. Parking is just outside and the distance to city centre is a steady walk but still not too far. Quick, reliable wifi is an extra plus.
In walking distance to bus shops extra.
Room small ,but seems that's what they are like in this area, photos on line can be misleading
Very nice traditional B&B. Very warm surrounding. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Great breakfast.
A little bit far from the city Centre...20-30 minutes walk, but many bus just in front.
Our hosts were very friendly & accommodating with insightful tips on where to eat locally. The breakfast menu was fantastic with a huge selection to choose from, the room excellently set out. The bed, although not a king size, was very comfortable. The location was a short walk into the city for all the main attractions, a bus out the front door.
The struggle to get heavy suitcases up/ down the steep flight of stairs. As people are getting taller, a double bed is no longer a suitable size.
Lovely B&B. Felt very pampered. Bottled water and chocolates left in the room every day. Room was immaculate and comfortable. Breakfast was a nice change from the traditional full English- fresh fruit, pastries, cheese, cold cuts, cereals, and yogurt. Our hosts, Susan and David, were helpful and accommodating. I would definately stay here again.
