We liked the location
Quality of the food served at breakfast.
warmth of staff and rooms
Location lovely, very relaxing with good views of the Thames river, not far from Abingdon, Wallingford, Oxford. Great for walking etc. Rooms warm enough and a good breakfast selection. New Years eve buffet very nice. Would go back and stay as well as recommend to people.
Needs a lot of work doing to bring it up to a good standard, needs new carpets and paint job and windows could do with looking at. Didn't use any other facilities so cannot comment.
Spectacular location, extremely quiet.
Food mediocre rooms too hot
Breakfast - great selection and good portions; Dinner - good selection and good portions; Location; Staff.
Room was near flue from Kitchen, noisy and not very pleasant.
Staff helpful during the day, and pleasent.
Tried to phone night porter at 11.20pm to ask about party [which we didnot know about] which was quite loud but dispite trying to make contact no one was picking up,so tried mobile and again no one picked up time gave up 11.50pm. Later in the evening a car alarm started so phoned the porter and this time it was answered. I worry that if someone wanted to contact me at the hotel at night they would be unable to do so.i
The bungalow and the four poster bed, first timer for this
The noisy children in the breakfast room who's mother didn't seem to care what they did, including playing football with the Christmas borbles off the tree, out of order.
Location Stunning scenery Fantastic trails for walks and runs with the dog
Room was dusty and cobwebby Long time since I've had to fiddle with 2 taps to regulate shower temperature Lack of staff
Excellent scenery Being able to take you pet Location by the river
Sloping room No lift Road noise in bedroom Chip in toilet seat Dirty extractor fan in bathroom
I like the staff, although most did not converse at all!. and the lady at reception was helpful and friendly, and she seemed to understand my being deaf.
the room was dingy as it was located at the back and the trees allowed little light to enter the room. The windows were old and not double glazed. I thought that this time was no where near as cosy and nice as the last time when my wife and I stayed in a nice double room in this same hotel.
Manager who checked us in was excellent and very friendly. Bar staff equally so and the food was great. Night porter was brilliant! Even gave us breakfast at 5:30am :)
Shower didn't work.
1)the hotel was a great place to stay. food was very good we stayed 4 nights and ate in bar every evening. 2) staff were all very good indeed 3) went to Wallingford by bus and explored a very interesting place with lots of individual shops rather than chain stores. 4) very quiet rooms. slept well 5) lounges and restaurant or bar had wonderful view of river Thames 6) the food was very good 7) free car parking a great assett
1) the toaster. seemed to brown toast ok but toast seemed soggy in the middle. Be good to have bread with oats in middle as very plain taste 2) only layed one knife for breakfast - when 2 really needed ( for full English breakfast and then toast!
The hotel was in an ideal position for what we were looking for.
The room was in need of redecoration. The bar prices were expensive compared to Wallingford.
Stunningly beautiful location; large room was in separate "bungalow" block, with large patio door/window looking down over Thames. Quiteness even better because of good double glazing. Reception staff welcoming and helpful.
Wi-Fi signal too weak to be usable (fine in the main hotel building). Told breakfast was extra £13.95 each, when it was included in the booking; two dining areas both bizarrely furnished/decorated, so passed on breakfast anyway. Didn't eat here, and almost nobody else did either. Plumbing/light switch noise from next room(s). Annoying air freshener in bathroom sounded like a sneeze every few minutes.
We liked the quiet location of our room, and the view of the river.
Did'nt like leaving to go home. Nothing we did not like.
The receptionist who welcomed us did so warmly. The location was superb with plenty of room for car parking. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious with plenty of storage space. The bedding was pristine and the room was serviced well each day. Despite a few negatives it was really good value for money and we would visit again
Areas of the hotel were in need of updating, with floors creaking and the decor looking shabby. One of the beds creaked badly resulting in disturbed sleep, and there were no hooks in the bathroom for clothing. The waitress was inattentive leaving us with dirty dishes until we had finished all our breakfast and the scrambled eggs were over cooked. The chicken supreme was not a dish to write home about but the strawberries and cream were delicious.
Superb location with polite staff; excellent breakfast
The room was a little 'tired', with tears in a curtain and net; sadly, there was mildew on the corner bathroom tiles
We loved the location because we were canoeing the Thames. It was possible to pull the canoe up on the lawn and lock it up. There is also great walking in the area. The rooms had an old fashioned charm. Our dinner in the bar was good. Had great conversation with a couple of locals.
The rooms were old fashioned which was fine except the plumbing could use updating. One of our two rooms had zero water pressure in the tub shower. Carpet and paint needs refreshing. The breakfast was okay but not as good as what we got in some lesser establishments.
Good breakfast Helpful staff very comfortable bed Lovely position
Needs updating but still ok drinks a bit expensive
every thing until we found that fungi in the bathroom
the room was ok until we found a fungi & mould in the bathroom around the toilet base, health hazard!reported it to the receptionist also gave her photos we took, these were passed on to the manager
The food was reasonably well cooked but the choice was limited. The location was good
The peeling wallpaper, chipped paintwork and threadbare carpets. Old rusty shower screen and very dated en suite facilities. Staff made an effort to be helpful and pleasant but limited english with some waiters. Would not return.
Large size of room (although I think room sizes vary considerably), comfortable bed, old hotel with character, friendly staff, personalised hotel that didn't feel like a big chain, quiet location by the beautiful Shillingford bridge.
The location was ideal, very pretty view of the river
This wasn't a good place for a female travelling alone, breakfast room felt dirty, food was of poor quality, tea bags were loose ans left out tasted old and out of date, undrinkable Bedroom needed a good clean and repaint
Location stunning and food good quality and resonably priced. room clean but a little tired. Room 18 is above the kitchen and noisey and hot.
Service at reception.Night porter wearing headphones and what looked like pyjamas when i checked out, didnt take them off and wondered why he couldnt hear me.I asked for receipt and he said i had to come back when day staff were in . Not very helpful when i neede to check out. I had to suggest they e mail it to me. receptionist at check in no better stood chatting to friends ignoring the fact i was there.bar staff surly and slow.
pleasant staff Great location
Very Shabby and worn - prices high for standard of facility
