A village inn in Rake, near Liss, the Flying Bull has a traditional pub and restaurant serving homemade meals for lunch and dinner.
Score from 146 reviews Very good
Stayed in room 12, room clean and cosy but the bed was either broken or the headboard was broken, we didnt sleep all night as everytime we moved the awful noise from the bed kept us awake all night
The room was clean and comfortable. It was away from the main pub so would not be subject to any late night noise. Breakfast was very nice. Staff were friendly.
The room was incredibly hot and the windows did not stay open. I think this was a combination of warmer weather than anticipated for the time of year.
Bed very soft bendy mattress
Comfortable room. Pretty quiet Excellent breakfast Great value
Unable to provide another couple of pillows.
The room and its facilities were quite acceptable, clean, comfortable bed, good size, decent bathroom facilities, only one light bulb not working. But...
Very unfriendly, even aggressive welcome, with a demand that we pay up immediately. I said I had never been asked to pay before even seeing the room, and anyway they had my booking.com confirmation. These points dismissed as if I was a yob like those at the nearby bar. The carpet on the stairs up to the room were the filthiest I have ever seen, and it was impossible to open the door to the room. Long delay while someone was found to show us the knack of how to work the key. Treated by the staff as comical toffs who expected that a key would open a door. This pub should certainly not be recommended by booking.com. I have never anywhere in the world been treated so badly by the staff.
The staff were polite and helpful - they rang me back very quickly when I posted a question on the booking form.
The room was shabby - the curtains were hanging off the curtain rings so did not draw properly. The bedside light didn't work and there was only one bedside table for the double bed. The room was clean but because of the state of the furnishings the overall impression was of a dingy room. Not good value for £75 a night!
Annexe room a bit faded and stale
Breakfast, as always, tasted good and it's always served slightly differently,.(we've been here several times). I know we came for breakfast at 9.30.am Sunday, but the only available table for two needed clearing, so we cleared it ourselves and put them on the adjoining table, which was already full of dirty crockery, To be fair, the fellow did wipe our table down, but it was wet after, so we dried it with a serviette. There wasn't much left on the self service hot beverage/cereal/ starter table,(we were the last ones), so we had to go to the drawer, as there were no cereal spoons left on our table. we did enjoy our food, but it felt slightly uncomfortable sat next to tables the whole duration, that all needed clearing.
Surrounded by lots of dirty breakfast tables the whole time that one is eating. I guess the person serving thought that he would clear it up in one go when the last customers left!
Staff were excellent and professional. Food very good well cooked
Rooms clean but could do with refurbishment as they look tired
The room was comfortable and well appointed and everything, including the bathroom, was clean and tidy. The best part of our stay was the breakfast, which was lovely, with a good choice of hot and continental options. Service from the staff was friendly and efficient. It was excellent value for money.
The only negative point was on our arrival when the landlady was not very welcoming. I think it was because she was using up old registration forms which asked for information she didn't require and so I spent too long on the process. However, the other staff were very pleasant and we had a good experience overall.
Friendly, helpful staff. Good location. Comfortable room and a good breakfast to start the next day with.
Everything food not good drinks expensive. Good job their was a table Table pub opposite.
friendly staffgood breakfast
Staff were excellent
The room was clean but tired, tatty, shabby and rundown. Lots of small things needed doing: replacing the rubber seal in the showers, replacing the broken window frames and ensuring good ventilation, redecorating (torn wallpaper etc.), broken handles on chest of draws and wardrobe, spring on door too strong, lock stiff and difficult to operate.
We enjoyed the room, the quaintness of the antique like furniture. The bed was comfortable and breakfast was great.
We got two free drinks as compensation for the mix up on the booking and the breakfast was good!
Booked a double room but got a twin room as they said something had gone wrong with the system even though I had a print out of the double room booking so they pushed the singles together and put a double duvet over them! Also the bathroom blind was covered in mould when you pulled it down! The room could do with a good clean!
Friendly staff. Pretty decent food. Main pub nice
Annex room we stayed in was looking a little tired with tatty wall paper etc
Staff very helpful and breakfast fine.
Very tired building and bedroom. Stains on carpet that no amount of cleaning would remove. Would not choose to stay again.
The staff very friendly Food was very good but could do with a bigger choice Good price for the facilities
Same menu every night and very small choice although they did have specials every night. But because it was a very busy weekend (Goodwood Revival) they did run out some of the specials.
The pub was an excellent place; good food with a singing chef; lovely room for breakfasts. Staff was very friendly and helpful
heating was not on in the annex where we stayed; this would have been helpful during the cold spell.
Staff were really friendly, fabulous new chef, great food.
Stairs to room, but only because of bad knees
Staff are lovely and friendly from arrival to departure; cooked breakfast was really good; bed was very comfortable
No toiletries or hairdryer Needs quite a bit of TLC and a good clean
Good service.Good food.Good pint of Guinness. What more would you want.
Nothing really.Location on a main busy road is probably the only downside. All else good.
The staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome. We booked the hotel 'en route' to the Isle of Wight which is only a 20 min drive from the terminal. We actually arrived early but the maids stepped up a gear to ensure that we did not have to wait long. It did not matter anyway because we had a couple of cold beers in their garden followed by a lovely roast dinner. All in all a very nice experience for the cost of only £45.00 for the twin room including a lovely breakfast to send us on our way. Would highly recommend.
Beer was excellent ! Breakfast very good choice and service was good. Rooms were clean and linen was always fresh.
