Nice room with great views to the sea. 2 minutes walking to a beautiful beach. Superb surroundings. The pub is very comfy and the food was very good (fish and seafood specialities). The continental breakfast was poor, but I can not opine about the English one.

The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and very obliging. Its situation was idyllic with the views over the bay.We stayed on for a total of 6 nights. The pressure of water in the shower was very very low and the reverberating fan made adreadful noise during the night

Staff were all young, enthusiastic and very welcoming. The food was of a good quality and reasonably priced. Nice atmospheric bar, quite busy for the time of year. Friendly locals, decent beers. The location of the premises is its big selling point, but, as usual with Brains, they do not make enough of this. All a bit tatty and could do with a makeover, especially outside with peeling paint and broken fencing going unrepaired.Brains have a reputation for not having very good taste in their pubs. I know The Churchill in Llandaff, Cardiff very well. Like the Ship, the Churchill has a fantastic position and could become a real flagship pub, but Brains unwillingness to invest in good quality furnishing, equipment and decoration is legend. Toilet seats, for example, are the complete bottom of the range(no pun intended). As above, really. A pub with fantastic potential, great staff and seemingly good local management is let down by a parsimonious brewer with no vision and no taste. What should be a flagship establishment, owing to its unique location, is let down badly b y a notoriously tight fisted brewery management team, and whoever is their properties manager should retire forthwith and make room for someone with flair and taste.Senioir management should be ashamed of themselves, as shouyld the Board.

Great location, all rooms have a sea view. We stayed during the recent storms, and it was great to come in and sit near the log fire after being blown about! The sash window in the bedroom wasn't double-glazed and was there was quite a draft through it.

Overall the whole stay was a good one The location is something that needs to be experienced to appreciate it fully Chef even came in early to provide my breakfast at 08.30 Good food (both choice & quality) & drink Minor challenges that would improve guest comfort would be greater water pressure to the shower & provision of a loo seat that stays up when needed

Location was excellent. Literally overlooking the sea from our room and listening to the waves, brilliant. The staff were helpful and friendly, the evening meal fantastic, the pub surroundings cosy and comfortable. Our room was clean and tidy, with the sea views and sounds an added bonus. Would definitely stay there again. Nothing, really. The breakfast, although very good, wasn't of the same standard of the evening meal we had. Outside tidiness could be improved, but, apart from that, it was very good.

Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the Ship Inn. Perfect idyllic location with stunning views from the rooms over the bay. Just seconds from the waters edge. The Ship Inn had a very chilled and relaxed atmosphere, perhaps the younger staff a little to relaxed at times, but all very friendly. The food was first class, large choice and efficient service. Great full english included in the morning, On arrival the previous night they reserve a table for you at dinner whether you need it or not... We couldnt have asked for more. The rooms were beautifully and tastefullly decorated with modern en-suite shower rooms. Unfortunately this was the worst nights sleep we have had in years. Ive had better beds in budget accommodation in Thailand. The bed was dreadful with a hard mattress with lumpy broken springs, we got minimal sleep and I spent the rest of our weekend with back ache! The room was not at all clean. At a glance looked fine but the layers of dust not just in hard to reach areas but along the headrest of the bed, all the picture frames and around the door frames, thick and black dust that had taken quite some time to collect. The bathroom was clean with exception the a very dirty toilet inside and around. Having said that we would definatley stay again as the rest of stay was worth it...

The Ship Inn offers a quiet location, with fantastic sea views from our large room. A great well stocked bar, friendly and welcoming. The Ship also offers a fantastic menu. The food was great. All in all we had a great stay, and we will be returning at a later date. Only minor problem very little parking. But who cares, everything else well outweighs this.

Location was fantastic. Yards from the beach in a very private cove.Food was surprisingly good. The bedroom was clean. The rest of the hotel was not. Bar area smelled of rancid fat/oil. We were told to use the fire escape as quick access to the car park. The wheelie bins were spilling out their contents - it stank - loads of flies. No hair dryer in the room.

Great location, lovely rooms with views of the beach and genuinely welcoming staff. The place had a real buzz when we were there on a Thursday evening, with the restaurant fully booked. The food was super and it was wonderful to sit enjoying it watching the sun set over the beach. Highly recommended. The rooms are right above the bar so don't expect quiet until closing time - not a problem for us, but might be if you want an early night.

“Lovely quaint town...I loved the view from room number 7 (which we stayed in) We woke up to the beautiful harbour filled with dolphins and porpoises hunting fish! I liked that the hotel entrance was seprate to the bar and the room was actually 2 rooms with a lounge area as well as bedroom with ensuite!” Penelope, Newport |
