In a Victorian terrace, The Welford offers locally sourced breakfasts and cozy rooms with free Wi-Fi. The hotel is situated in the heart of Harrogate, a 5 minute walk from Harrogate Train station.
Score from 216 reviews Wonderful
Situated in scenic Dunnington, just 4 miles east of York, The Windmill is a traditional pub with a beer garden. The inn offers home-cooked food, free Wi-Fi and free on-site parking.

Good location Staff were pleasant.
Room decor was tired. Bathroom dated. Breakfast was poor.
The quirkiness of the hotel
The cleanliness was poor and would of preferred a cooked breakfast
Staying out in the English countryside was very pleasant. Enjoyed the trains whizzing by. Nice big gravel parking lot for the car.
The train car room was "tired". Worn out bedspread, throw pillows, upholstered chair all needed replacing. Dinged up furniture. Somewhat musty smell. Problems with the hot water heater under the toilet floor being so hot your feet hurt when you stood on it. Also the hot water was so scalding hot it was impossible to take a shower on two occasions. The breakfast staff was almost non-existent, and visibly unhappy about pouring coffee for customers. No phone in the room.
Nice food, great location, quirky hotel.
Staff were not that 'on the ball' in the restaurant. The hotel needs decorating now, with minimal money spent on it, it could look so much better.
A very unique place to stay.
The compartments and baths are getting a bit tired. I still liked the place overall.
Location was good and the evening meal was lovely nice and polite staff nice meet and greet on arrival
Only dislike was breakfast Buffett very limited choice only one type of cereal and meat and cheese on display uncovered fresh fruit could be more fresh
Greek night on Friday night was fun.
Breakfast was quite limited.
Very unusual room. Bed extremely comfortable. Food delicious
The quirkiness of the bedrooms and hotel itself, the bedrooms are compartments of a railway carriage and there is lots of railway memorabilia in the hotel.
Radiator in ensuite did not turn off so the floor was actually too hot to stand on. Breakfast was basic, no yoghurt and no croissants
The setting and location are both excellent, with easy access to York. The outside of the hotel is kept immaculate and makes a very good first impression. There dining car is lovely and overall the staff are very friendly. The bar area is well laid out and cosy. The piano playing is a lovely touch and made our evening very enjoyable.
The sidings big novelty attraction is the fact that your room is an original train car sleeper. Once the novelty of this wears off, which in our case was two minutes, the reality sets in. We then realised we were staying in a small, dark, cramped living area. At the very least the interior of your room/sleeper should be decorated in a brighter, less oppressive colour than the dark brown varnish finish it currently is. If the idea is to keep the cabin/sleeper in its original state, it just doesn't work as a pleasant room to stay in at the price quoted. The original idea is 'quirky' and attractive but overall the place is in need of a revamp and redecoration. The continental breakfast we had in the morning was left uncovered and was of poor quality ( we noticed a number if flies landing on various food items). We were looking forward to our stay, but came away feeling very disappointed!
Always a great place to stay. Staff are excellent. Food excellent. Been coming here since 1980's.
Beginning to need some renovation now as the coaches are starting to feel their age. A bit awkward getting Internet connections. It's only available in the lounge.
The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.
When we had our breakfast the member of staff on duty should at least make an effort to smile even if he doesn't feel like it. Bedrooms and shower rooms not clean and in one of the shower rooms, there were ants.
The situation and unusual nature of the property. View from dining room. Did not eat in restaurant but would definitely consider going there for a meal.
We stayed in room 4 which was tiny.We only had 1 sutcase, it would have been difficult to find space for 2. There was nowhere in the bathroom to hang dressing gown or put clothes. It needed a shelf so you could place toiletriies on it.
Different being near the train track sleeping in a train
Breakfast was discusting and that's being kind I had an hair in my beans and egg. Also we had to pay extra for the fry up as the continental breakfast looked like it had been sat there ages
Lovely eccentric environment with a delightfully helpful and friendly staff. The Greek evening was very good value for money and super food (if slightly chaotic) a fun place to stay especially if you like trains.
Although a minor irritation the lack of decaf coffee sachets in the room was surprising these days. The staff tried really hard to offer alternatives and you couldn't fault them in their helpfulness!
It was such a unique place to visit and the staff were so lovely and helpful. The food was amazing - the best meal I have had in a long time!
The carriage rooms were very unique but not very comfortable, which is to be expected. One or two nights would probably be enough.
everything, my husband is a train fanatic so he was in his element, also there are lots of lovely places close at hand to visit.
rooms are a bit on the small side, but that is only to be expected as you are sleeping in a railway carriage.
The novelty of sleeping in a rail carriage! The friendliness of the staff. The location.
Location fantastic, great for a rail enthusiast. Converted carriage brought back memories of being on a train as a boy.
Room was a bit small, ok for a couple of nights though
ambience of 4 poster bedroom dining car atmosphere
I liked the quirkiness and location. Bed was clean. I would go back.
It is all a bit grubby .. all areas need some tlc. Don't like writing down payment card details - would rather have had card swiped.
The railway ambience, restaurant food.
Central heating not on in evening, strip light in basic bathroom flickered, TV remote needed new batteries, £15 taxi from rail station.
This was a great experience, we loved it and will go back.
The staff were very good and attentive.
The cramped accomodation, but we had a good idea of what it would be like before we went. At times the trains were rather noisy.
Warm friendly atmosphere, Good Food.
Rooms could do with a bit of TLC and modernisation
