Enjoyed an excellent nights' sleep in a thoroughly clean and comfort room. 4-poster bed, amazing!! Free wifi was available which was very welcoming to have.
Maybe a little off the beaten track!
The area and the courteous staff.
Not much other than no fridge.
Very welcoming hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Accommodation was excellent and views were amazing. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return.
'Country House Hotel' perhaps makes it sound a bit pretentious but nothing could be further from the truth. Sarah and Stephen promote a friendly, relaxing yet professional environment where guests' needs are attended to easily and without fuss. Heated outdoor pool is a good size and not crowded. Would recommend a cottage for families.
Wifi not available in all rooms and as 3G and O2 phone signal is poor in the area, communications could be difficult.
Location. Because of the dog, we were accommodated in a "courtyard suite", i.e, an outside apartment which was, however, very well-equipped - good quality furniture and furnishings. The outside decking and furniture was very attractive.
Nostra culpa, perhaps, but we did not realise breakfast had to be specifically ordered. We had planned to dine in on our first night, but no dinner was available. Bedrooms in the "suite" were exceedingly small.
Size of cottages
Quite and peaceful place. The Carriages cottage was clean and warm. Owners were friendly during our stay.
Paid considerably more, then it was quoted by Booking.com GBP 40.00 changeover charge was hidden in the section "Accommodation details" and was not included in the final quote. Don't rely on the quoted 'Total price' from Booking.com, beware of mandatory charges hidden in explanatory sections. Read carefully before booking! Also 'breakfast' for GBP 12.50 was silently 'upgraded' to so called 'Full English Breakfast' for GBP 15.00 each, as we were offered toasts / scrambled eggs during our breakfast. Breakfast was good, but nothing special for what you would pay GBP 15.00. I believe, owners should better inform guests about their prices and let people know that breakfast will cost more when offering 'Full English Breakfast'. It would help to avoid unpleasant confusion during check-out. That spoiled initial good impression about the hotel.
The Carriages far exceeded our expectations - warm, comfortable, beautifully equipped and most comfortable for the price. The location is convenient to all the areas we wished to visit but very tranquil and serene. The owners were obliging, accommodating and welcoming. Our budding tennis stars loved the court!
Good standard of accommodation and equipment
Beds too small and soft
Comfortable bed. Large room. Jacuzzi bath.
Early check-out. Early finish and short period for breakfast.
The peace and quiet was just what I needed, and the staff could not have been more helpful!
I found the stairs difficult, and need to book earlier to avoid being on the first floor!
-Very relaxed and friendly. We very much enjoyed our stay. -Our King Size room was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. At last a hotel with a comfortable bed. -We had an excellent meal - just what we wanted. - We would go back.
Very friendly staff, lovely room and view, and nice atmosphere.
The hotel is in an excellent countryside location providing access to country walks, sightseeing, beaches and shopping, just about anything you would want to see in Devon. It is beautifully maintained, family owned and operated. It was better than home away from home. Food, amenities, staff excellent. Swimming pool available. We were treated like royalty. Stayed only 3 days, will stay again, longer next time. Didn't want to leave.
Wifi could be sporadic.
It was a fantastic stay, everything was ok. Stephen and famaly, they make a very good Job. When we come in this area again, we will stay in this Hotel again, no question. I think that says all.
Breakfast is lovely
I loved everything . Steve and Sarah were fantastic. They went far beyond the call of duty to be hospitable. Located in a really beautiful part of the world but steve and Sarah have invested a lot in making it extremely comfortable . the chalets lack nothing . Even the gourmet chef will find every required in the kitchen. The chalets are so comfortable you will not want to leave. Will definitely be going back but this time with a group of friends and family to enjoy the facilities to the full . Would recommend to all who wish to experience a beautiful and relaxing part of the world.
Very friendly hosts. Room was well furnished and bed was comfortable. Continental breakfast was exceptional. Overall we had a happy few days.
Nervous approach up narrow country lane and route from main road congested with cars at side of roads parked end to end. Mirrors at bad bends on lane to hotel would have kept my blood pressure lower!.
We stayed 4 nights in a courtyard room such pretty valley views it was one of the best hotels we booked into. Gourmet breakfast with such a huge selection it was amazing. Sarah & Steve are wonderful hosts also not forgetting Benson the dog who was there to ggreet you and is adorable. Would rrecommend to all who wish to experience a beautiful part of the world.
Geat staff, lovely bedrooms.
could have background music in dining room
Room was great- comfortable, clean and quiet. Hostess very friendly and helpful. Good broadband WiFi in rooms.
Lovely hotel, staff and that includes Benson the dog.
Superb relaxing and friendly hotel. Always made welcome every time we stay. The rooms are always clean and fresh, and the pool area is very relaxing. The owners, the setting and the ambiance make it a very special place.
Excellent outdoor heated pool and our room was lovely. Very friendly staff.
Little more expensive than I'd of liked to pay. But that's because it was Sidmouth folk festival week.
